Sure we did. We took down Iraq in less than two years. They had a million man army (more than us). We completely took over every IO landmark. We caught their leader and had their own people execute him. The US killed one million Iraqis, the Iraqis only killed 4,500 of us.

    Huge and decisive US victory.

"But wait, you didn't help rebuild Iraq after you completely destroyed them"

Not our problem. War doesn't mean you have to hold their hand and put everything back together :)

Japan is an ally. China is neither friend or foe.

It is a major power to be alert of, though.

According to an article in The Atlantic in 2007, by two arms control experts, the U.S. can utterly destroy all of China's ICBMs using only 72 W-88 warheads launched from a couple of Ohio class submarines in the Pacific.

And only kill 6,000 Chinese in doing so.

In short the U.S. can utterly eliminate the Chinese nuclear arsenal and not even kill as many Chinese as die in mining accidents every year in doing so.

Our military dominance is unmatched, to date. One of our super carriers could probably dominate the sea by itself.

An army of teen conscripts who ran away, versus a trained US force? Not even close to a glorious victory. It was a walkover. But keep crowing, you're doing just fine.

Or they switch to the Pound or Euro to escape the collapsing US dollar.

I can almost see the strategic value of a reverse Pearl Harbor where Trump bombs the living crap out of China and North Korea. I'd wait a couple of year though to give them time to synch up with the rest of humanity.

You are aware that China has a conscript army, right?

Haha how young are you? Are you aware of the Republican Guard we had to fight? No wonder Europe always surrenders so easily. You guys think so much of yourselves.

You obviously have little to no understanding of the Geo-political circumstances around China or the region. I could recommend some good simulation war games if your just looking to be entertained.

Korea will keep China too busy anyway; stop worrying about China. They are probably more of a stabilizing force than anything.

Would you prefer that North Korea control that area?

Funny how those chicken hawks are so big on talking but so small on action or serving in the military.

The US is the worlds policeman. No one else wanted the role and regardless of success/failure of past conflicts the world needs such a policeman. In regarfs to my OP the islands in question cannot be sorted out in regards to sovereignty as a/ the other contesting countries have no military capability compared to China. B/ China just takes over the islands and says "too bad".

The UN has no teeth. It should be the worlds policeman but is is pathetic.

So again, l advocate, if the US waits 10 years it will be a walkover for China to do as it pleases. Waiting for that to occur is not a good idea. Posters here think it is a "dumb" idea of mine to wipe out the Chinese navy. Well, all of China's potential operational soldiers could only wave their kung fu fists in outrage and never leave their beaches. The islands could be divided up fairly (resourses, oil, gas) and peace will be more likely in my view.

As for war game senarios again project the situation in 10 years time. You read it first here. The US will have a much more capable dragon to contend with.

This is all nonsense. There is not just "wiping out the Chinese navy" as that does not wipe out China even if it were possible, which it is not.

Navies no longer can win wars due to inherent vulnerabilities to missiles, aircraft and submarines. Rather, navies now exist to deal with lesser powered and other lesser tasks. Nor is it possible to limit war with China to just a naval war. Again, this is an absurdly naive and simple-minded claim.

China is now and will continue to be the dominate military power in Asia, including the waters of that region. Nothing will stop that. When the doors were opened to massive quantities of goods from China to the West - and all the money and technology - and most industry shut down in the West and transferred to China - China become the dominate power in that region was assures as a done-deal. China was put on the path to being their region's superpower and a world superpower decades ago, just like Germany took actions assuring that within 3 generations non-indigenous Germans will be a minority and Germany's government will be theocratic Islam.

Anyone who cannot understand those simple realities maybe can understand that China has nuclear weapons.

Which can easily be eliminated by the U.S. at little cost to either side.

And navies have never been able to win wars. Only armies win wars.

I don't think ships are what they used to be. They can be taken out easily with missiles.

Well, China would have a long trip to invade the US. If it was feasible that China could invade the US they would have higher firepower than our citizens. Still the US citizens have tons of black guns that are still potent. But I think wars are increasing fought in the air nowadays with troops sent in just to clean things up...

If you have the might of a superpower you just blow their boats out of the water way before they even get near your country.

What evidence do you have that warships are especially vulnerable to missiles?
