You make it seem like we can't trust our politicians. Why should we delegate wartime social powers if they can't be trusted with the specific enumerations of power, already delegated?

Senators may be appointed by State legislators with repeal of the 17th.

You think it would be harder for special interests to buy the votes of half the state legislature than half of the state voters?

The point is a Senator is supposed to represent the government and interests of the State a congressman is supposed tor represent the people of the state.

Shouldn't the interests of the state and the interests of its people be the same?

Not always .Dont they elect their state representatives? The founders made it that way for a good reason.

I hope you folks realize how easy it is to lobby people in a state legislature. Hell, for only a few million you could probably get any state to choose whoever you wanted.

Women could vote but it was up to the state and the founders did not back slavery.

By the way it was reps who favored giving them the right to vote everywhere.

    Not all change is good.

Can we agree that something is systemically wrong with the federal government? We're 19 trillion in debt, the various agencies of the federal government have exploded in size and scope and the trend isn't showing improvement.

Contrast this with local and state governance; most all states have balanced budgets; agencies are more responsive to the populous as are the states representatives.

The federal government lacks an important check on its power and growth. The 17th is the systemic error, time to repeal it.

    Cheers

the problem is corporations, not the government, too many jobs being outsourced

the problem is too much money going overseas... or getting stuck in the hands of the 1%, not enough trickle down

the problem is too much war

republicans control the tax an dpurse strings, republicans like to borrow and spend, dems are tax and spend

for most of the working class, they will pay the same tax regardless who is in office
