Yes, but only massive because our economy is the most massive in the world. Free markets and consumer choice are the safety valves that don't allow those problems to crush us. In socialism, those safety valves don't exist.

So is Texas, on both fronts in recent history. Yet, we're not making excuses, nor are we busy lining "The Leaders" daughters pockets with money that belongs to others. We're just adjusting to the new economics of the energy industry and we'll be fine. Why you so eager to defend a failed economic policy?

I don't know, I think Venezuela's being pretty crushed by its problems. As was Zimbabwe, which was once in a very similar situation to the present situation of Venezuela.

There's absolutely nothing Venezuela could have done to prevent a collapse of their economy. Over half their economy is dependent on oil and as oil plummeted, so did their economy. Whether they printed money or not, they were in for a world of hurt. Hyperinflation didn't cause their economic collapse, their economic collapse caused hyperinflation.

And billions stolen out of their economy by their "socialist leaders" and families. "Some animals are more equal than others."

There are hundreds of cherries on this tree. Healthcare in Europe is just fine - I did not say it was the best although I hear it is good. The point is that we pay more but give way less benefits when, given a private (semi private really) system we should be paying less and getting more.

This is the huge problem that needs to be addressed. Addressing this problem would make the tiny problems (like illegal immigrant welfare state which is probably nonsense anyway - but assuming it is true) go away.

Truth be told - JLT does not actually know what a liberal even is. Standard response of the ignorant is when faced with an argument they can not refute .. just cry "liberal liberal liberal" like doing so constitutes and argument for something and hope for the best rather than responding with something resembling rational thought.

Not that a agree with socialist economics by any measure, but did you seriously use an Einstein quote to counter socialism?

Are the above synonymous with socialism? Is wealth distribution bad? Is equality bad?

So the same problem that EVERY socialist regime has: People have to run it and people in real life don't act like people do on paper.

Einstein was physicist, not an economist.

It is apparent by your continued red herrings that you cannot or will not defend your previous claims thus I will move on to debate those who can.

It simply would take government control for there to be distribution to the point of "equality".

Of course any type of gov't that does not allow predatory capitalists to ransack their nation will never make it. We will insure that. And we always have. We need to leave other nations alone, and let them work out what they have as a form of gov't and economy. Predatory capitalists, the same kind that is hollowing out American, sucking her dry, have been active via our gov't, which they own, for a long time. The world is not what you think it is. I wish it were. Listen to Craig Roberts of the Reagan administration as well as a host of others who are not propagandized. Their brains are not as susceptible to it as the average guy.

Socialism is not the same animal as democratic socialism, which uses capitalism to pay for a larger Commons. People on the right either via a lack of an education, or intentionally equivocating the two, are not serious intelligent people.

You must regulate capitalism, or you destroy your own people. And suck the wealth from the middle up to the top. For you are leaving capitalism up to a very powerful sociopathic greed that moves up to the top.

Yeah and cherry Coke is not really Coke, right!

So name a single economic system that has given more people wealth than free market capitalism!

My God, just because Albert Einstein preferred socialism does not mean he understood economics!
"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"
Where's the correlation? If anything, the irony is hilarious!

I never said he did, but evidently you found him reputable enough to use a quote from him to dismiss socialism. Now that's ironic, seeing how the man was a devout socialist

I mean, personally if I were making a thread dismissing socialism, I would have gone with a quote from one of my political idols (who won the nobel prize in economics) Milton Friedman... using an Einstein quote though.. you just end up making the whole thread look silly

The huge problem is giving away so much to those that don't contribute. I'm 65 years old, I will get mine, but those that are younger, they will be working and working and working paying into a government that don't fulfill their promises. I don't put any faith in government, or big business, both will equally screw you in a New York minute

You using a quote from a supporter of socialism in your OP that was indented to dismiss socialism shows that socialists don't have much common sense?

There are many fish to fry here. One needs be careful not to focus too much on the minnows while ignoring the whales. This is a big problem as generally the raging masses focus on the minnows.
