    Food for thought

Several specific flashpoints in the world call for U.S. diplomatic and military-to-
military engagement, and possibly greater policy flexibility. The Israeli/
Palestinian conflict and ISIS are only two such cases.

"Nation building" or "peace building" does not necessarily call for the long-term
presence of U.S. military forces, but does require the attention and resources of
the world's leading power, along with the parallel civil-military assets of its
    allies.

The United States must strengthen the range of its human assets and internal
capabilities to influence global affairs. No amount of technology can replace the
human element required to gather and assess intelligence, conduct diplomacy,
    and promote military cooperation.

Our best insurance for the future will be set upon three supports: a strong and
united democratic country, a more capable homeland defense, and a more
effective capacity to project national power - including land power - overseas.

Anyone who has been paying attention knows that we have Seal Team 6, British counterparts, and some other nasty fellows at work on this right now. ISIS is being destroyed.
But everyone posting here wants to ignore that, and carry on with the various rants, grudges, and exclamations that we should reduce parts of the world to glowing glass. PATHETIC.

    Joe,
What of the following do you fault?

A carrot and stick approach may have utility in the effort to fight ISIS and the Taliban, although the results may only accrue in the near term. In the longer term, such an approach can be counterproductive. The carrot and stick approach will have greater utility if perceived to be fairly applied in a just cause. Ultimately, any use of carrots or sticks must be part of a more comprehensive effort to deny ISIS the popular support it needs to survive. That effort must demonstrate with all available means that America’s cause is just and must create the conditions that lead others to believe that this cause is their cause. That is unnecessary with America’s allies and fellow believers in NATO; the immediate challenge is in the Middle East, both with their governments and their people.

Unlike most of those of your ilk, you at least know how to spell "Fox".

That said, what on God's Green Earth do Fox News and Rush have to do with this subject? Nothing? That's what I thought.

    Like I said: Confused. Very.

What in Gods' Name does this have to do with anything I said? Our black ops boys who are over there right now are not using carrots or sticks. They have regained Mosul dam, and are methodically decimating ISIS. They're using the most advance weaponry in human history to great effect. What do you want?

A handful of special forces operative in action and an occasional bomb being dropped equates to ISIS being destroyed? How many years have handfuls of special forces operatives etc. been going after Al Qaeda?

I believe a more vigorous approach is needed.

I have been saying this about terrorists since day one. They call me islamophobe or mooslim-o-phobe or something like that. But one thing is certain, they are headed to America through the Mexican border because Obama continues to keep them unchecked.

There you go again with the "so-called" whities and blacks. How many times do I have to say that I am a white dude, not a so-called white dude?

Take a group of Boeing 747's and spray all ISIS controlled areas with large amounts of pig blood.

    Diplomacy or hell, your choice.

I prefer cruise missiles, cluster bombs and any other high explosive that kills large amounts of people.

You can't intimidate someone with death, when death is the only thing they want.

You can intimidate them with their religion.

War is about tactics and fear.

Religious extremist have one thing on their mind, I'm going to heaven so my life doesn't matter. Why not send them to hell in the process? Maybe then they wouldn't have the urge to die like savages.

Unfortunate story, but it isn't like it is a secret the Middle East is not such a friendly place. My best to his family and friends. As for the rest, if the US stayed out of the ME, then reporters would not be flocking there to be decapitated.

I am simply pointing out the different reactions by the White House to the two incidents. You can draw your own conclusions.
