Anyone who has done any design and construction can see the time and expense that would be needed to build, clean and maintain individual shower stalls.

I strongly believe that High School Students of different genders should never be forced to shower together.

However, I suppose I'm not as squeamish about showering with a group since I've had to do so as a kid at summer camp, in High School athletics, in the Army, at the gym. etc

Unfortunately, in Europe my most painful bicycle ever was the ride home after a day of nude swimming and drinking wine in the sunshine.

Ah that makes more sense. Our PE can be any time during the day and it often is (or at least was) strenuous. You would sweat like a dog. A shower is necessary.

we all thought it was ok when a teen girl wanted to play football, no one saw it getting to this level, I supported that back then as no girls football team, some of what we see in sports now is wrong and people know it, I think change is needed, but it can't set back equal rights either

That doesn't really make sense. Lots of countries use the cubicle approach, and none of them are as wealthy as America. I've been in Third World countries who only use cubicles.

You see a much larger expense for the same spaces in a school. This is very expensive and public schools are state funded. There is no comparable throughput in a gym or hospital. If they did it, they paid a hefty price which not every district can afford.

 

if you’re involved in architecture and construction this is normal. If the facility planners don’t mind the massive expense it can be done. It’s all about throughput, not every place has the same requirements as a modern high school
