Tell that to our scholastic shooting teams across America Tell that to our Olympic shooting team. Tell that to the thousands of competition shooters across America. Tell that to all the folks across America that go to their local ranges every weekend to enjoy putting holes in paper. Tell that to all the kids who are recipients of college scholarships for the shooting sports Firearms are not only for killing. If that were true then millions of guns are not doing their job. Legally carrying a firearm is for preserving your own life, should the need be. Folks that legally carry are not the ones responsible for the bulk of the homicide / crime stats. I hate it when people intentionally confuse responsible CCW holders with murderers, robbers, and rapists.
LOL You are reading in your own personal bias, not what is actually being written. The inability to actually converse and get beyond your personal blinders is what is really sad.
350 million guns in America and according to you, most of them are shooting people? You know better than that... quit lying.
Why do you think the gun got invented ? It wasn't for shooting paper targets and niether are the vast bulk of guns in circulation in the US
Now flogger, you are a man of stats and not falsehoods. Care to post the stat that most people buy firearms to shoot people? I have and extensive collection myself and never purchased with intent to shoot someone. I like history so my purchases lean towards military firearms from this country and many others like China, Poland,Yugoslavia Hungary, British, Russia, Italian, Japan, French etc etc. I also purchase for craftsmanship and beauty. Look forward to your stats.
Your problem with us, Flogger, is that we know exactly why the gun got invented, by whom, when, and how it evolved. In all American wars, from the revolution and at least through Korea, the most effective military shooters were those who had grown up with guns used for food gathering. Another problem you have with us is that you are legally forbidden to own a handgun, so it's absolutely impossible for you to know what compels us to have ours. Impossible.
Its your ability to instantaneously kill or grievously harm others driven by your justifiably elevated fear that those around you will do the same to you. This vicious cycle of fear caused by there being far too many guns in circulation is what compels you and it has nothing whatsoever to do with freedom only fear
And there, you PERFECTLY illustrate my point. I just got home from work. I was gone from my guns for 14 hours. In that time, I ran 27 trips in a taxi cab in Las Vegas. Statistically, this is the most dangerous job on earth. You know absolutely NOTHING about what we do here; how we go about it, and how issues are resolved, but you certainly have an opinion about what my guns are for, why I bought them, and how I feel about them. You simply are not capable of reason. Don't bother me anymore.
Meanwhile, in gun free Mexico, the death toll climbs. "The case has caused soul searching in Mexico, where an estimated 100,000 people have lost their lives over the past eight years in crimes committed by drug cartels and organized criminal groups. Another 30,000 people have disappeared." http://www.wfaa.com/story/news/world/2014/11/07/mexico-missing-students/18669187/
