All it takes is an ATF application, a background check, and $200 for the tax stamp.

Except the two people the criminal shot before being killed.
And then, however more people he wanted to kill, until the police showed up.

Unless he made one or stole one, of course.

Just so you know - any argument based on the idea that "if all guns were banned" is pure fantasy and need not be considered in any way.

If the people want freedom and liberty all they have to do is refuse to convict the defendant. Just because some bureaucrat wants to oppress you is not reason to allow him to do it. Freedom starts with the individual and only he can give it up.

None of this changes the fact is if a violation of federal law for a felon to possess a firearm.
Thus, while it might be legal for a felon to do so under Texas law, it remains illegal in Texas under federal law.

According to the left, Texas has no responsibility to enforce federal law. Just look at enforcement of immigration law.

This -is- true - the federal government cannot force a state to enforce federal laws, and the states have no legal compulsion to do so.

You can sit around and depend on the police, remember, when seconds count, police are only minutes away.

    Of course it's a win.

If every mass shooting was ended in 6 seconds they wouldn't be mass shootings.

If you could legislate morality Mexico would be safer than the US, by this reasoning.

    We should make murder illegal.

And we can make guns illegal, that's how we put a stop to people doing drugs!

Or one of the more than dozen first world nations.
I understand why you would need to pick a statistical outlier however.

    No no no.

Your 1st world examples are the statistical outliers when it comes to violence and gun ownership.

Pretty sure your graph is legal average firearms per 100 people.
    Include illegal ones.

Just looking at your graph, lets look at the first 10 places with high gun ownership — the US exceeds every single nation, most of them by excessive margins with the exception Uruguay.
Why do you believe that is?
Eo you think it has anything to do with reasonable restrictions and ownership requirements?

And yet the homicide rate compared to the rest of the countries with little to no firearms is tiny in comparison.

And no, laws against firearm ownership don't work.

If they did, Mexican cartels wouldn't be running around with military equipment.

If laws stopped violence, then laws against murder would end homicide in and of themselves.

    from your own link......................
When is it legal to own a .50 BMG rifle in California?
Circumstances in which you may legally possess a 50 caliber rifle in California include:

    • You hold a valid permit to possess an assault weapon specifically (not just a general concealed carry permit),
    • You lawfully possessed the rifle before it was made illegal (i.e., before January 1, 2005),
    • You are the executor or administrator of an estate that lawfully holds such firearms,
    • You engage in lawful target shooting and/or police-approved firearm exhibitions, or
    • You are a non-California resident traveling who is traveling to or from an organized competitive match or league competition that lawfully uses assault weapons.

Again, legal firearms. Include total firearms including illegal ones.

    Your graph shows otherwise

That is due to lax enforcement. For every one example you have there are five that show otherwise — again, see your own graph.

Laws, penalties and enforcement do make a difference however. A law with no enforcement will be ignored — see your cartel example.
