Who actually likes spiders? Not many people lol. I'm agoraphobic I generally don't enjoy open spaces.....It's weird tho because it depends on the situation, so it's not really a phobia.... I guess at times I feel uncomfortable with open spaces..
I'm exactly the opposite - I can't be in formal gatherings such as in auditoriums (think orchestral concerts and ballet performances?) because I sometimes feel the need to 'escape' and begin to hyperventilate. Imagine the ramifications of that - especially as another of my multiplicity of phobias is the fear of being the centre of attention? Blimey I've got more than I thought and I haven't even scratched the surface yet!
I was in a busy restaurant awhile back...actually, quite a few years back...and wound up with an anxiety attack. It was awful. I wouldn't dream of going into an auditorium or concert nowadays. At least the restaurant had an easy escape so I could puke outside while freaking out. It was my first attack. Scarey stuff. Which is another way of describing..."crowds".
We have open fields where I live too.... Not nature...... Sometimes I get freaked out by open spaces, not all the time just sometimes.... I'm a nature guy but more wooded areas and lakes..... It doesn't happen all the time tho. It's not even an issue during the day it's generally at night....... I just don't enjoy wide open spaces.
I don't like large gatherings either...... I suppose I have a different approach to that when I know everyone, but being around a crowded room with a bunch of strangers is probably difficult for most people. But, when you know everyone or the majority everything is fine - you don't really even think about it other than "oh I gotta go say hi to Bill" or something. I agree, I don't like cramped spaces with lots of strange people either.... I can't even stand going grocery shopping.
Annoygraphobia It's when anonymous posters tell me what my motivations and beliefs are, makes me reach for the CAPS button
Well, I am not just sitting around waiting to forget my children's names, and I don't fret over it that much.
I got stuck in an elevator recently. I don't have phobias about elevators, but I found it nerve wracking anyway.
I don't like elevators either, because I know if it broke down I'd start hyperventilating; the only time I use the one in this 8-floor apartment block, and mine is one of the top flats, is when I come back loaded up with shopping from Sainsbury's every Thursday morning.
Heights! Man do they scare me. Can't lean over to look down even from the shortest of heights. *shiver* I even have my very own amateur-shrink explanation to when I caught it. I was about 5 or 6 years old and had a two-story bed in the room I sharted with my brother. Right besides the bed there was a book shelf, right? And on the top shelf there was some crayons, a toy or something I wanted to fetch. For a child to reach that high he of course had to climb up the two-story bed. I climbed up, picked what I needed and threw it down on the floor. Then I leaned over to check where it landed, a little too far though. BAM. I hit the floor and started crying and ever since I have never dared to lean over when I'm located above ground level.
Another one of mine is the washing machine: when the spin cycle has finished and the pump has emptied the drum, it keeps on giving p-r-o-l-o-n-g-e-d sets of 3 beeps until the machine is manually switched off. If I'm sitting here at the PC, as I usually am, it doesn't take me a few moments to reach the machine, but if the following set of beeps start before I get there, I have to wait 'til they finish before I re-set the off-switch. Same with the microwave; it gives one long (and I mean long) beep, and I won't open the door until it stops in case some microwaves escape and zap me.
