Protect me from what? Non-violent drug offenders and people who drive over the speed limit? I'll take my chances.
There is a reason that police forces all across this country around the same time removed the "protect and sever" title from their logos. .

I have never called a cop for any kind of self defense help. The police are far more dangerous to me than ever who I am calling the cops about. reva
No your comment was false, the thread is relevant especially in the light of cops blowing away unarmed people while wrapped in body armor. And we just hear about high profile cases. reva
What's more dangerous than being a cop? That's easy. Being a young black man in a poor community. BTW: the cops are not drafted, they apply for the job...the young black men are born into the dangerous situations.
Well, then cops should go into roofing work, where they stand a much greater chance of being seriously maimed or killed. Being a cop isn't as dangerous as many people would want us to believe. For they support the gestapo tactics of cops as being necessary in how the police interact with the public. They use the unnecessary gun deaths inflicted upon citizens, as being essential. It is far more dangerous to the public, when cops do these high speed chases in traffic, risking the life of the public as they chase minor traffic violators through cities and towns. Here in my area, this year, the cops chased a guy who ran when he didn't have a drivers license, and it ended up killing an elderly couple. Here where I live these high speed chases through our town was not allowed years ago. For the police chief thought it might kill citizens. Today, the police in most places don't care if they risk the lives of citizens. It is more important to catch a misdemeanor than putting us a risk.
In the USA, the Thugs pose a clear and present danger to cops. Cops should be given more rights to shoot and kill the Thugs as a means of self-defense.
I saw one working once when I was very young and didn't know what he was doing until years later. It's very demanding on the helicopter pilot as well. OMG Thuggi has returned? (come to think, I wouldn't be surprised). It's a (*)(*)(*)(*) poor police where being a police is a dangerous job. That being said, it's also a (*)(*)(*)(*) poor police where the police shoot people indiscriminately, and it doesn't make the police any safer, far from it, as the Ferguson police would surely agree.
This was my life. I feel lucky to be alive and kickin and retired. "The Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released one snapshot, based on 2002 data of on-the-job fatalities per 100,000 workers. The verdict: people who cut down trees, with a rate of 118 deaths per 100,000 workers. This is more than 26 times the average of all workers." http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1115293/posts
quite true, but the for most of those jobs, and when police officer makes the list, the most likely cause of death and/or injury cited is "transportation related". they more you do something, the more likely it is to hurt you. you are more likely to win the lottery than have a tree fall on you...unless you make trees fall on you all day. if you drive all day or stand in traffic, fate will catch up on you.
those young black males are more likely to be harmed by OTHER young black males by a magnitude that rates on absurdity.
part of the problem with runners is you can't tell WHY they're running until they get caught. would your opinion of the chase that killed that couple change if a child had been found in the offender's trunk?
Roofing is not as dangerous as being a cop. Please cite all injuries/deaths of roofers vs. police officers in the past 20 years. Also, you have no way of proving anything you just said. It sounds exactly like something Putin would say. You have no idea how cops think.
Related matter: I don't know in America, but in Italy police officers earn not that great amount of money [their wages are comparable with the wages of common employees]. Considering the level of risk connected with their profession, don't you think that police officers should earn more money?
i would never want to be a cop. they have to deal with soo much (*)(*)(*)(*), especially in cities. they have to see dead babies, raped children, etc etc. i couldn't deal with that. that's why most cops have my respect.
Absolutely. When I was a first aider I saw similar things as well and I imagine that firefighters and other categories have occasion to deal with "extreme reality". But cops have to act against the subjects causing similar situations [a first aider usually don't face the criminal, a first aider aids the victim ...]. And this makes a great difference.
