I think you would be good. We have opinionated moderators that do a good job. Its just a matter of be objective when noting problems.

    Wait, isn't Watky a bot?

I'd personally nominate JeffLV. I don't think I've ever seen anything remotely resembling passion from the guy; very level-headed, good debater. Zosiamom is another good choice to bring up.

I think you need a centrist like myself as moderator. But not me, I'm busy.

Liking someone and making them a moderator are two different things. When I read over some of the names I see people who post a lot. That can be good and bad. Some folks post a lot and much what they post is just flamebait. Number of posts should not be considered.

This website has rules (yes it is true). Being able to interpret those rules and how they apply to a post is the most important characteristic of a moderator. The second most important trait is to understand when you moderate someone they will take it personally. They will take it out on you. Understand they don't hate you personally, they just hate the authority you have. It is hard sometimes to keep those separate.

I have moderated other forums so I have been on both sides of the moderating coin. It isn't easy but it can be rewarding.

Indeed. What we definitely don't need are partisan hacks masquerading as moderators.

Mods should be above partisanship. Only there to enforce the rules fairly and evenly across the board.

Edward Teller..when explaining relativity said, " When repeating a true story don't let the actual factual circumstances get in the way"..
Think about it, how many people you hear about are experienced as mods getting to be mods? Its the same everywhere -same ole same ole.

Actually I've only really know 1 guy who modded an old board I was on who knew how to mod properly. A gentle left hand and an iron rod in the other. It's all about balance.

There is nothing special about being a mod. It simply turns a fun pastime, a hobby, into a pain in the ass job with no pay.

No way on the former. Never heard of the latter.

I agree on every point made here. Serfin' is probably one of the most level-headed people here.
