Why do foreigners care more about US politics than their own?

French, huh? I have to say, your people live up to their reputation. I spent time in Caen back in 2011 with the US military and we were shunned by your people while there.

I'm not blaming you for anything (especially not anything that happened over 70 years ago) and I'm sure the British in the 1940s would have behaved similarly if the roles were reversed.

That's ultimately my point. Nationality or place of residence isn't actually anything like as distinctive as you imagine. As you say, America is massively diverse (and everywhere else is more diverse than you imagine) which means you will personally have much more in common with many foreigners than you do with many of your fellow Americans. We're all people.

Is the US not the West's leader?

Thanks for confirming what many foreigners know, that especially the rural, conservatives types in the US have zero interest in, and very little knowledge what it is like in other countries, mostly thinking that they are all socialists who don't even have access to TV. That's the stereotype of the ugly American, who then travels abroad once in their lifetime and is only interested in Sauerkraut and Lederhosen, because that's the only thing they know, for example, about Germany, because it's been fed to them through Hollywood movies.

Now, why do foreigners care about American politics? Because it has a much bigger effect on them than their own politics have on America. And it is particularly the backwards rural folk, who tend to vote very conservative, who are bringing the rest of the world wars, due to their fear of Muslims etc. They also dominate the world energy market and other things of importance to them: the US: 4% of the world population, 25% of the energy consumption, 25% of covid cases, 44% of the world's guns, and the list goes on.

So, I would suggest you inform yourself about the rest of the world, it is actually an interesting and exciting place. The world doesn't stop past your own rural county. Go and travel, and learn about other cultures. It may be eye opening and make you more liberal.

As Mark Twain said: "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness..". The current brethren of Trump American Nationalists could certainly use a dose of that.

    Maybe you didn't speak French.
    It would have been polite.
Why do you assume you would be welcome?

The bottom line is this they hate us because they are not us. They are jealous of our rights and want to bring us down to their level of serfdom

Oh look this failed argument again.... Kind of funny how the dumbass in the White House left the Taliban 600,000 assault rifles and the Taliban was pretty happy.

Military conflicts involving small arms are still common worldwide so go sell that to someone else

Ah, another one who knows NOTHING about other countries. If you had ever been to Europe, and actually talked to the people (means not being a tourist on a guided tour), you'd know that they have LOTS of freedoms, often more than in the US. They want nothing to do, however, with the rural US backward mindset.

****! No! You can keep your high firearm and pandemic mortality rates! And we probably have MORE “freedom of speech” than you do.

Thinking of Speakers Corner at Hyde Park here.
Or the many demonstrations (manifestations) in France.
    Or the diversité of media.
The regular présentations of differences of opinion on prime time TV in France.
This is copies throughout the 27 EU nations and beyond.
Some of our writers have produce books such as Salman Rushdie's Satanic Verses because he was better protected from à fatwa in Europe. The US has been snaffled about Julian Assange because of UK rights.
Extremist Imams can preach freely ( until it becomes incitement) and spécial interest schools are legal.
Clearly your intake of reality outside your own country is woeful.
the idea of a curtailing of freedoms outside the US is a myth.

Oh dear Ruger.. Another time trapped American myth.
The nation States of Europe once had colonies largely populated by non white people.
The UK had India many West indian Islands, Africa countries like Rhodesia ( as was called then.) Half of Africa was British at one time.
France had middle Eastern countries, Algeria and other African colonies plus Pacific territories like Tahiti.
As part of Independence, many of the non white population had rights to settle in the colonial country.
Until the law changed, the UK became home to tens if not hundreds of thousands of Indians and Pakistanis. It caused huge social issues in the UK in the 80's and 90's.
France has à large population of ex African people centered largely around Paris and Marseilles.
Other European countries have received thousands of African and middle eastern migrants including Germany which invited them to revitalise their economy. Many have gone to Sweden Lichtenstein and Switzerland.
Eastern European nations are "allergic" to nonwhite people
They are only just free from the racist communist bloc and are more uncomfortable with the social mixing elsewhere.
Your image of the West is post war stereotypical and frozen in time.

What our healthcare programs look like don't affect the "whole picture". Neither do our somewhat unique gun rights. Or what we are or are not teaching in our schools. Or any of dozens of other things our little gang (which ain't so little) of foreign meddlers who are on here constantly lecturing us about. It's none of their damn business, doesn't affect them in any way, and they should know their place and keep their mouths shut.

If they want to talk about our foreign policies, at least in some cases an argument can be made that it's something that MIGHT be in their legit interest, but not even all foreign policy acts and decisions are really their problems.

Biden surrendering our troops in Afghanistan was a stupid thing to do, and likely made the middle-east even more unstable than it already was, so that's something I think does affect non-Americans. However, it's also over and done, and I don't even see if he loses reelection (which still isn't for 2 1/2+ more years) whomever replaces him undoing that and reengaging there.

Likewise, if foreigners want to discuss the situation in Ukraine, especially if they live in the region or anywhere in NATO, that's open to debate, too, at least to a point. I think those who make it obvious they're being paid by Russia to spread pure bs propaganda should be banned, that's not what we need, but if someone, from say Poland, who might have a VERY unique insight about the whole thing wants to debate it, regardless of what "side" they are on is something I would love to see. But to my knowledge we have no Polanders here.

Ah. So the entrepreneurs shouldn't care what state your Markets are in, where to unrestricted and provide our pensions and some of our health care.
Sci3ntists shouldn't care about the development of communications, space exploration, research into raw matériels, AI, and the environment that may be the death of us all.
Of COURSE we should remain walled up behind our borders. Like pre 20th century neanderthals.
    Fraid not.
This is the global economy and staying one step ahead while collaborating is the name of the game since the 1980's.

Sorry old bean was speaking for Australia - which has MORE freedom of speech than America because we do not have a “religious right” telling us how to think and believe

One quarter of Australians are only second generation and increasingly that is from Asia and Africa. WE even have networks dedicated to multiculturalism. SBS https://www.sbs.com.au/. Mind you unofficially it is known as “Sex Before Soccer” due to programming content lols! But we even have one channel dedicated to “world movies”

Most liberals anymore is using the excuse that our inflation isn’t bad because everyone is having inflation. I’ve been saying what happens to us will ripple through the whole world and cause world inflation because of the little thing called the worlds reserve currency. But I’m glad you acknowledge that what we do does effect the whole world. We are a great nation and when great things shake it is felt far and wide

No liberals I know of claim that inflation isn't bad. It certainly is, and I am feeling the impact in my own household finances.

What liberals rather claim is that inflation is a worldwide phenomenon and that "Biden did this" is just politicized B$ that doesn't match with the economic facts.

Of course, we all know that who or what caused this won't matter in November and in 2024, most Americans have such a poor grasp of facts that they want to punish someone at the ballot box, no matter whether they are responsible or not. They want someone else (a politician) to fix it for them, rather than looking at their own behavior, foolishly having bought the gas-guzzling SUV, when they knew that gas prices would not stay low forever. However, that would require introspection, it is much easier to just cry "Biden bad".

I think we set ourselves up for scrutiny by the rest of the world through our declarations of being the greatest nation in the world. And, sadly, we are not standing up well to that scrutiny.
