Dividends are earned income and are a double tax on corporate profits. Gains are not earned income.

My state university lost $20 million+ at the end of the spring semester only, because they had to reimburse students for housing after the were sent home in mid March. If we have to go online again in the fall, which could happen because of student's irresponsible behavior, we will lose a similar chunk again. The state has already cut our budget. None of that is the fault of the university. Our administration is counting on federal relief, however, the way this is politicized, it may not happen. The GOP is painting this as bailing out irresponsible states. I wonder, then, why companies got a bailout? Were they not irresponsible for not saving for a rainy day? Why should states be punished? Of course we know why: For political gain.

As best as I can remember, there have been no bailouts of republican states. There have been some disaster assistance after floods or hurricanes.

It is like explained to someone else earlier. Because Blue states are urban and red states tend to be rural, the average income is higher in Blue States. Because of the progressive income tax structure, on average they pay more income tax. Since democrats want the more wealthy people to pay a higher rate, this is exactly how the democrats want it.

Ah, and covid is not a natural disaster? Why should farmers in Iowa be made whole, but students in Dem states be punished?

It's typical for GOP voters, though. They always rail against the hated government picking their pockets, until it is their own time to collect. Then, they'll take the federal dollars as quickly as anyone else.

The red states are going through the same thing with Covid. If they can make it without assistance, the blue states should be able to.

The US is already massively in debt. I thought the democrats were concerned about the national debt.

Do state universities in red states not have to shut down because of covid? UNC comes to mind? Do you think they are not losing 10s of millions of dollars in lost revenue? What should they do, in your opinion? Just let covid spread through the student body, and then the community?

Since Trump became president, they have complained about the national debt. They did not worry much about it before then.

what we did it point out the republican hypocrisy, they said the tea party just cared about the debt, but where are they now?

that said, the debt is almost 30 trillion, we have passed the point of no return

For thirty days....and he gave relief to the unemployed, businesses, and families

The reason dem states need bailouts has more to do with what was happening prior to the Chinese Virus....they were losing their tax base for years because of leftst failed policies,.

of course they didn't like another 3 trillion dollar bailout for the liberal states

the first bailout was for the people and small businesses...they were attempting another, but the Dems continue to block it

Nope...only left wing states need the bailouts...

sure it was for businesses....to keep people on their payrolls!!! so therein for the people...and in addition add directly to people.

Now when we could use another Nancy packed up, and flew across the country to violate California orders to get her hair done and eat ice cream in her walled in mansion
