And why threads like the Donald Trump hate is a cult thread get shut down and why I stopped donations.

Seems like restaurants around the country do that and if you really want to see huge people go to restaurants with all you can eat buffets, that's where the food addicts really congregate

Potatoes are indeed a culprit in the American diet especially when deep fried. Eating them is part of the American culture though left over from the days not so long ago where you needed cheap calories and lots of them to feed your family. Difference is in those days you worked from dark to dark on the farm doing heavy manual labor which is far from the norm now. I love potatoes but very rarely indulge and consider it a special treat when I do.

V8 [the low sodium version], nuts and nut butters, protein bars, protein drink, raw vegetables, cheese, meat... that's about it. I don't eat bread, potatoes, beans or other starches, sugar, wheat products generally.. I don't eat fruit because it has too much sugar.

I try to load up on the carrots, broccoli, spinach, and cauliflower. All are super foods. I've probably eaten a boatload of raw broccoli! :D

I was ketogenic for most of a year and lost 70 pounds. That means no more than 25 grams of carbs a day! That is intense!!! That was six years ago. Since then I have added a lot of muscle and can make 20 yos look bad in the gym.

Oh yes, liberal helpings of sugar-free chocolate! Chocolate is one of the super foods! Yes, when it comes to chocolate, I'm entirely liberal!

Here was an interesting discovery: By eliminating processed foods and only eating natural foods, my salt intake dropped dramatically without me even realizing it. In a matter of months, my blood pressure dropped like a rock to normal levels without any drugs.

Whatever works. I kind of do the opposite. Lots of rice stir fry rice with vegetables for dinner, beans and rice for lunch and eggs with toast for breakfast. Very little meat these days but I like some in my stir fry. I started eating this way around ten years ago after reading a book called the sugar blues. Good book and that diet works for me. I'm pushing 70 and ride mountain bikes in summer along with hiking, even climbed Rainier last summer. In winter it's lots of snow shoeing and cross country skiing. You are what you eat and exercise is the fountain of youth. Oh yeah, and sugar kills!

The burden of obesity and obesity-related conditions is not borne equally and disparities in prevalence are well documented for low-income, minority and rural adults in the United States.

Food education is important and although I disagreed with Michelle's methods, her ideas were good. You can't force this on people though as she attempted to do. She should have offered healthy options but instead she completely changed school cafeteria menus which was a typical mistake that socialist types make.

Low carb or low fat, it depends on the person.

Low carb diets are anti-cancer. Low fat diets are more anti-heart disease. One researcher said the trending feeling is that people with a history of cancer should go low carb. People with a family history of heart disease should go low fat.

I have blood sugar problems that are not easily controlled - a unique variety. Stopping carbs was a dramatic move and still highly controversial when I did it. But for the first time in my life, I felt well. Before that I felt terrible almost every day of my life. I've had this condition since I a child but it wasn't diagnosed until I was in my late 30s. I followed medical advice but it wasn't working. When I passed out from a glass of milk, I knew I had to do something.

    And yes, sugar kills.

Do you have any statistics to support your thesis?

IF what you propose is true, I would suppose its' because city dwellers walk more to run errands while rural dwellers have to drive to run errands.
Plus, some of the large city dwellers I know are on Adderall.

I'm a blacksmith who makes wrought iron gates, fireplace tools, reproduction artifacts for museums & collectors, reproduction Civil War artifacts for re-enactors etc etc (i.e. cannon parts) etc etc so my work burns off the pizza.

There appears to be little fact in your post. Which begs the question, what is your point?

By your choice of locations, it appears there might be a political/ideological slant to whatever you are attempting here.

But, to the point: California, arguably the most liberal/socialist Progressive of all states in the US.

    http://healthpolicy.ucla.edu/publications/Documents/PDF/2015/obesityreport-jun2015.pdf

In California, 7.4 million adults and adolescents were obese in 2011-12. Moreover, obesity among California adults is increasing. The prevalence of adult obesity rose from 19 percent in 2001 to 25 percent in 2011-12.

Los Angles has an overweight/obesity prevalence index of @ 35%.

That could in large part be due to the fact that California is being taken over by Mexicans who eat a horrible diet

I live amongst a bunch of low-income, minority, rural adults and none of them are obese. I've also lived amongst a bunch of obese people in the city so my observations are based on first-hand experience, not on what I read on the Internet.

I'm not saying there aren't any obese people living in the country, but it's dishonest to say everyone who lives outside the city is fat, as Ron did. It's not hard to see the bigotry behind that ignorant nonsense...

Very true. It also points to the fact the claim made in the OP is not accurate.

Wow - I'm jealous. Seattle is one of my favorite cities - what was it like to climb Ranier? I imagine it must've been spectacular...

One more interesting observation: When I stopped eating bread, sometimes I would have to stop and grab a sandwich or burger and removed the bread. Without bread those things are fine for me. What I quickly noticed is that bread accounts for most of the weight of the foods we buy on the run. In fact, they seem to add something to burger buns that makes them extremely dense. It makes it seem like you are getting a meal when in fact it is mostly just filler. When you take the bread away, not much is left!

Just wondering, most old people can't eat lots of pizza no matter how hard they work. You must have a high metabolism

Yes, nothing is absolute. It is a matter of percentages and I posted a chart going State by State earlier. But your claims are anecdotal. There is actual evidence to the contrary. And obesity is an epidemic.

Climbing Rainier turned out to be one of the highlights of my life and I can see how people get addicted to mountain climbing. It's a different world up there. You almost feel like you're on another planet. There's also a state of euphoria probably from the altitude.
