no, we want the government to stop endorsing the flag... people can worship it all they want on their own, same with the swastika, ect... we just do not want the gov flying the flags or endorsing them....

The Star Spangled Banner represents oppression just as much as the Stars and Bars. The US flag also represents genocide which the Confederate Battle flag doesn't. If any flag is going to be tossed away it should be the Wounded Knee Flag...the Star Spangled Banner. Until that happens leave the Stars and Bars alone.

I think you may be wrong about the Southern economic standing at this point. My impression has been that they are doing fine, especially after a run of several presidents from Texas.

I suppose it could happen, the North becomes part of Canada and the south part of Mexico... though I doubt it

maybe the south should start investing in infrastructure instead of the rich....

Seriously now - who cares about a damn flag?

First of all, SC has already moved the flag off the state capitol and put it on the war memorial. That's an appropriate place for it. It should stay there. It's a piece of American history.

Second, why don't the libprogs focus their outrage on something meaningful? You've got some serious (very serious) problems in the black community and you clowns are worried about a flag? Of all the things a black person could get offended by, I assure you a flag is the least meaningful. You want to talk about state symbols of racism? How about those idiotic federal "unequal employment opportunity" questionnaires? How about quotas (both written and unspoken)? The federal government has institutionalized racism and you're worried about a hundred year old flag?

Leave SC alone. They're grieving. Have some courtesy and some respect.

I think that technically you're right and that this should close the discussion. If there are no state laws against showing that flag in South Carolina, that's not a federal matter.

    Mitt Romney ...

in any case, I underline that just a Republican, Mitt Romney has asked to South Carolina authorities to take the flag off, just for respect [not on a legal base].

Personally I'm not against flags, I'm against their wrong interpretation [a flag is a symbol, the problem stays in whom reads that symbol].

theres no laws against showing any flag in this country, its about respect, the government of south carolina, by displaying that flag they show respect to the confederate terrorist movement of the 1800's that meant too dismantle this country, and that is wrong, we need complete de-confederation of the white supremacist terrorist south

This ^^^ is why libprogs have no credibility.

The things they say are so fantastic as to be delusional.

The "white supremacist terrorist south" apparently consists of one guy, and he's in custody.

    LOL - "de-confederation". LOL :)

You're kidding right? Alot of People point to Kansas due to its budgeting failure, but a big part of that is Kansas "infrastructure"(or lackthereof.) Use "Google maps" and see what little they have in Kansas. A lack of infrastructure is BIG time in producing jobs. Texas has its Oil refineries, it allows a crock like Rick Perry to look legitimate but really it's not politics. Texas is just blessed geographically and we'd be idiots to let that go.

If the US ever lost Texas, we'd be in for a world of hurt. Because if you think "we can't depend on foreign oil" now, just imagine when a huge chunk of US reserves goes to someone else. Other than Texas, look at the rest of the Non-Northern States Alabama? Mississippi? Utah? Take your pick, my fellow Pennsylvanian which one of these decadent States do you want to live in?

The North looks at these lesser States, snuffs its nose at it and we're surprised there's a "Southern Strategy?" It sure as hell isn't going to come from Democrats, but the Democratic propaganda likes to ignore that. If they want to make inroads to the South, they can. But what can Democrats offer the South?

Anyone whose watching knows full well that the Democrat's essential economic strategy is to fund for the poor, with the working class. Not a long-term solution and one the South has already fully undergone. I mean, imagine if HALF of the infrastructure efforts went to the South that's gone to the North. The South will remain "Red'(or at least politically uninterested) in Democrats for quite some time.

And Democrats(especially we Northerners) have no one but ourselves to blame. I'm a Northerner who feels compassion towards the South, and maybe if we felt that compassion, we'd be a much tighter country and a much tighter family unit amongst Americans.

We are all the civilized people who don't have to cling to racism and hate to find some meaning in our lives.
It's sad to see reactionaries doubling down on their hatred and bigotry instead of growing up.

lets just move it to a museum and remove all gov hung confederate flags... then it will be a non-issue, let's stop sending a mixed msg to these killers that the state supports what they support

if the right doesn't care about the flag, there should be no issue removing it.....

Remove it from a war memorial? Why?

Why would the left be trying to rewrite history like that? Hm???

At least hold your tongue long enough to let the flags fly at half mast, is that too much to ask?

I seriously doubt they're going to vote to take it down. You do realize this has already been the subject of a long and contentious debate, yes? They've already compromised, they moved it from the capitol building to the war memorial. I'm pretty sure it's going to stay right there. I'm pretty sure South Carolina isn't going to take kindly to outsiders "suggesting" what they can do with their state monuments and their flags.

This is a political interpretation of yours ...

I would appreciate to see Americans leave the "Civil War" [it was a Secession War, to be historically correct] behind their shoulders. An ancient flag cannot be the reason for a deep political fight.

Dems controlled Southern states mostly in the early part of the 20th Century, but they were a different breed from their Northern brethren. Then came Nixon and the segregationist policies swung over to the Republican side where they have flourished for decades (still do as a matter of fact). What primed the South for that takeover was the passage of federal laws regarding integration and voting rights (primarily the Civil Rights Act), with Supreme Court decisions finding de jure segregation laws unconstitutional.
