So you actually equate Bout with America....................................I find that quite outrageous.

Government trade prisoners of war at wars end. They exchange political prisoners such as spies. They don't until now trade the most notorious weapons dealers to the most despicable dictators and cartels weapons to commit mass crimes against entire peoples for a stupid citizen who tried to smuggle drugs into one of those dictator led countries.

Go get someone else to chase down your Assange rabbit hole.

He is a citizen of 4 countries, and as dishonorably discharged from the marines. Its also being reported that Russia approached Trump about a swap for him and Trump did nothing. Im sure you will hold Trump to the same level you held Biden right ?

She's an 'accomplished' athlete, and by no means to diminish her accomplishments but the other guy is among other things: A patriotic citizen who served his country, and militarily speaking, he is a US military asset. Were I in power, our goal would be to secure and retain US assets. Griner isn't an asset. She's not necessarily a liability, but she's not an asset.

Sure, let's hold Trump to the same standard. The US government should bring home these people who are unlawfully detained. But speaking on a matter of priority(be he dishonorably discharged or not.), I'm going to presume he has intel that is vital on some level based on his past in our military. After Snowden, the last thing I'd want were i in the government is another defector to the Russians(or anywhere else.)

    Say wha?

    Paul Whelan:

    Court Martial
    Convicted felonies
    Bad Conduct discharge.

The following are consequences of receiving a BCD:
    • Forfeit their pay,
    • Lose rank,
    • Loss of military benefits,
    • Not recognized by the federal government as a veteran,
    • Barred from owning fire arms (18 U.S.C. § 922(g)), and
    • Must be disclosed if asked when applying for a job.
There is the possibility of receiving some VA medical benefits, but they have to be petitioned for and the matter reviewed by officials at the VA.

    That is funny.

Given his record you'd have to ask what it is about him that makes people ramble on about what a fine American he is (turns out he is also Canadian, Irish & British) & how deserving he is of freedom while demanding the gay black woman remain in a Russian prison. Hmmmm, what could it be??? I wonder????

Under Russian law Griner was lawfully detained and arrested.
She pled guilty and got an inhumane sentence.
    Her case was transparent.

He was in the Marines a long time ago and even then what vital intel could he have for the Russians?
He's been sitting in prison, so it doesn't look like he had any bargaining chips,

Who the hell knows what Whelan was up to, he does have red-flags in his past.
His twin brother David wasn't aware of his court martial etc.
The US may know things about his case that can't be disclosed to us and if it does pertain to spying evidence just who was he spying for?
I've just read the wiki page on him and have no idea what else is out there about his charges, trial and sentencing.

What was the swap for him?

And why was Griner worth letting Bout go free?

I don't know what the real reason for this was, but they had their reasons.

Ok, he was in prion there for 2 years during the Trump admin, why didn't he do anything ?

FTR, I don't like that Biden gave them the arms dealer, but Im glad he got her out. But from what the Biden admin is claiming, the Russians would not negotiate on him.

I do not know what the swap entailed, I juts read the report that it was offered.

I dont like that they gave the arms dealer back, but what value does someone like him have now that literally everyone knows who he is ?

LOTS to a dictator who needs to buy arms in the black market and he was being PUNISHED for his past deeds and should never have seen the light of day again. Why was this basketball player who was entering Russia to earn her personal fortune traded for this notorious criminal. AGAIN would you have supported it had it been Osama Bin Laden?

Really? Russia averages less than 8,000 deaths a year to drug overdoses while America averages 108,000. The rate of drug deaths is an order of magnitude greater in America. What do you think explains the difference? I think the difference is in the DIFFERENCE in how each respective government treats drug offenders. I believe that government power can stop drug addiction and I believe Russia proves it. I also believe the worst thing that happened to Griner was being freed. If she would have served her sentence, she would have learned a lesson in humility, kicked her drug addict and learned the value of gratitude. Because of our incompetent President, it has been reinforced to her that she is above the law even when she is breaking the law in a foreign land. Biden has extended the idea that corrupt progressive elites are bound by no countries laws.

My cousin spent three years in prison for his drug offenses and he is grateful for it. It broke his drug habit and saved his life. He was humbled by the experience and has expressed nothing but gratitude for it happening. After that experience, he has had 35 years of productive and happy existence.

    Good news about your cousin.
Griner had a very productive life already and was a 2x American Gold metal Olympian.
This should make you happy, another druggie convicted in Russia so 14 yrs being held should surely teach him some needed lessons...iirc: 1/2 oz medical pot.
