I was younger and I had 4 cups of coffee—that’s half of my entire lifetime consumption. LOL
    That’s a fair point.
Hmmm. Yes. And I wasn’t figuring the Ireland/Norther Ireland border for you either. Doh!
Absolutely. And the days of hydro requiring massive dams of major rivers is over as well. There are so many different technologies now.

No. You asked if you could have the "same situation" as in Texas. Texas did not simply experience rolling blackouts.

But that's how it started and escalated from there.

And not on wind power. Apparently they had two wind turbines but have since been retired. But being on or off the ERCOT grid had nothing to do with it there was no available power that adjoining systems could have supplied.

It was a while ago I got interested in this, but from memory the main hold backs on hydro were.
1, Management, conflict in demand between the need for power and water supply.
2, Maintenance, silting was a major issue as was salt water corrosion.
But with advances in technology much of this might be circumvented.
However I think wind is proving just as reliable but without the above issues.

Oh look. More copy and paste from the same blog!

Do you understand that wind turbines don't usually supply 25 GWh of electricity? So if you cherry pick those days as starting points and compare them to relatively low days, of course you will see a decrease.

Can you make a counter argument without copy and paste?

Texas fiasco was due entirely to excessive deregulation

It's been a bad 4 months full of Republican failures

LOL You accused me of "making things up" for my offense of stating my opinion while making it clear that it was an opinion.

That's okay though. Now just blame my "lack of knowledge" on a "lack of knowledge". What a trip. :roflol:

You repeatedly stated that "Wind generators promised to supply 10%". You never said it was just your opinion until challenged on it.

Also, nice way of cutting up my quote to not face how you were wrong in your other "fact." Or are you going to claim that it was only your "opinion" that Texas power grid wasn't connected to any other power grid?

    Prove it.
I've already pointed out that larger regulated grids in areas that are more used to the cold had to do it's own rolling blackouts during this storm (amazing that no media coverage of those mentioned anywhere). If the winter storm that affected Texas had hit another very southern area that isn't used to that kind of cold, who's to say a similar situation wouldn't have happened?

To me the most likely cause for the terrible situation in Texas was the weather.

Seems no one wants to answer this question.

And to edit, there WERE rolling blackouts in NW Arkansas due to high demand, which is also where the problems began in Texas. And keep in mind that NW AR is an area more used to the colder temps than Texas and there were sto;; grid problems rising on a larger grid subject to regulation. So, what if it wasn't Texas, what if it were south Mississippi, Florida, etc.

My brother lives in an area of NW Arkansas that gets its electricity from Beaver Lake hydro. He also said some towns in Arkansas get energy from those West Texas wind turbines!

The blackouts were from Southwestern electric power co. which many of the local co-ops are also part of.

Your question is meaningless. There is no reason for me to manually retype what has already been presented clearly. Your claim about high and low days is a mere deflection. Wind went down first and stayed down. Gas took on an extraordinary load to try to compensate but also suffered from cold. In the end, gas remained in at least partial service.

We know. That's why you aren't taken seriously.

Since another accused you of making things up. With good reason.

~ And this paragraph just about sums up the dumbed-down situations that we create for ourselves .. .

    • ▶ " As usual these days, discussions of natural events quickly devolve into useless political arguments about who or what is to blame. Little thought is put into the technical or scientific issues, instead everything is viewed through the prism of Democrat or Republican political agendas. "

Why? No one did that during four years of Trump. In the interest of "equity" I call your point "unjust".

Four years of "Dementia Man Bad" will just bring symmetry and harmony to American politics. LOL
