That's what the Democrats thought when they instituted the Jim Crow laws to keep the Black man down.

Oh look, it's another person who doesn't understand how Republicans and Democrats have shifted in Political ideologies over the course of 100+ years.

Which, as Alfonzo Rachel explains, not the same thing as Conservative Republicans.

Wikipedia has a list of 84 Segregationists.

3 were republicans to start with, 6 switched from the Democrats. The rest either stayed Democrats, or joined the AIP.

Among those who stayed, was Robert Byrd, a democrat Senator until he died in 2010.

Much of the south votes nationally Republican, but votes locally Democrat, hence how we got Bill Clinton, and the Democrat political machine Elbert Lee Guillory had to slog through.

... In the end, the "shifted political ideologies" is an excuse for a party that still treats blacks as people to keep on the reservation, they just changed their rhetoric for why.

Right. Another "Black" face, to support and/or promote a political PARTY which has A LOT MORE changing/reforming to do... before they will EVER attract a significant number of African American votes.

I won't condemn the man for his 'beliefs'... but I KNOW (experientially) what TODAY'S Republicans and Right Wing Conservatives are about; they are naturally HOSTILE and averse to African Americans and their cultural experiences. That is so evident, I often wonder why ANYONE would deny it. :(

Because I'm TEA party, have been to Tea party rallies, haven't a f*cking clue what liberals are talking about.

At the Western Conservative Summit, we had Sean Welcome, Allen West, David Garibaldi, and James Golden.

We had K. Carl Smith lead a panel about being a Frederick Douglass Republican, frequent authorities like Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, and Shelby Steele were mentioned liberally. We even got a shout out to Alfonzo Rachel.

Beyond that, Janak Joshi was there, greeting people, and also had a chance to take to the stage. "Careful old white men, this old brown man is stealing your thunder."

The "racist" claim as the reason for the Right's resistance is just a non sequitur the left made up, because it's clear not only do they not like Conservatism, they don't understand it, and will grasp for any easy rationalization they can get at.

You want to put people in boxes, and are dead set to make sure it stays that way.

The Tea Party rallies you have attended tell the whole story? Really?

    Really? More "Black" people? (Amazing.)

Oh, wonderful. Even more "Black" people. Simply astounding.

    Interesting... kind of.

Have you SEEN and LISTENED TO Conservatives on the Right lately??? It's fairly certain that the abject racism often expressed from that side, is not an imaginary effect of some type. I want NOTHING to do with Tea Party, Conservatives or Republicans... at this point (and likely the rest of my life).

    Forget it.

Those "people" have put themselves in "boxes". I USED to vote "Republican"... then came the "CRAZINESS" and hatred, that now they seem to be trying to diffuse, due to the literal political problems they are about to face DEMOGRAPHICALLY.

It's going to take more than 'one' or 'a few' prominent Black men, to salvage that hate-filled MESS on the Right. (See you in about 2 generations.) :(

Really. Are you aware of this? Or this?

Yes, I have. You haven't, or are re-imagining what have you heard into a racist slant. I mean you people do that just for how we say "Obama" And again, since you too don't understand Conservatism, it wouldn't surprise me.

The Baby Boomers were Walter Mondale's best voting bloc in '84. Last year they were Romney's. For many, voting preferences change with age.

Let me give one of the more extreme examples.

From the Left's point of view, if you're not a Liberal, you're not a "Conservative:...
... you have to be either a Racist or an Uncle Tom.

Why hasn't a "conservative" come to this thread and complained that liberals disagree with every black conservative........so they must all be racists! I mean....we are well into the second page. Y'all are slippin'.

I had the 'stink-eye' on Conservatives long before I knew about MSNBC; even before I stopped watching Fox News.

But you go along with their claims, even when they aren't true, don't you? Just like that one.

I really DO check out what all news sources claim. Due ti being on the internet, I've already heard of MOST stories before they hit the TV.

Riiiight... and you don't think Thomas Roberts was prosecuted for being Black rather than a fraudster. or that at the Senate immigration meeting last January, the Tea Party protesters were chanting together the "n-word" despite there being no video recordings of them doing so.

.. Oh and the Black Leadership Council are just "token" fellows, while the 'real' protest was just more white GOP.

Why do we have to refer to it as the "n-word"? We aren't children. Saying (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) ain't going to summon great Guderian's ghost, however much I would like that to happen.
