"defeat" of what, exactly? My OP asks the questions: "What are the statistics on drive-by knifings for the same time period? "How many lives were lost due to drive-by knifings last year in America? "How many people were injured due to drive-by knifings?" These are questions. I've never once said that a drive-by stabbing has actually occurred. I've offered no numbers. Merely asked questions. Have you been reading the threads?

What you were responding to is irrelevant as you still made the accusation. Do you really expect an elderly man who is being attacked by several young male gang members to invite them to a gym for a boxing match? Is he a coward for not wanting to street fight against young gang members? I carry a gun because I realize that violent crime does happen to innocent victims. Thugs target those who look like they can't fight back, which is often the elderly. My gun gives me the ability to effectively fight back. The point is moot because I know extemely well that I CAN pull the trigger. That someone else may not be able to has no effect on me.

I think I am beginning to understand the position of our friends on this forum who live Down Under. It seems that drive-by shootings and overall gun violence is becoming more frequent in Australia, despite their controls and restrictions on firearms. Yes, and it was an idea imported from............. However because of our lower overall gun and homicide rate we have a much better chance of catching these crime

I don't usually presume to speak for other forum members, but in this case I'll go out on a limb and make an exception. If the private possession of firearms is reduced/restricted, then you've the number of shootings - intentional or otherwise - is also sharply reduced. And because a knife is a close-combat weapon, criminals (read: gang members) don't drive by a house and throw knifes at the occupants. What I think Uncle Meat is trying to communicate to us is that because firearms are outlawed in Australia, they don't have as severe a problem with drive-by shootings as we do here in Estados Unidos.
But from the data and statistics on violent crime, we know that this is not true at all. The more important question is, does gun control have any effect on gang members purchasing weapons? Seeing that the highest rates of gun crime are in cities with the heaviest restrictions on guns (Camden, Detroit, D.C), the answer is clear that gun control has ZERO effect on reducing crime. Who commits drive-by shootings? Law-abiding citizens who purchase guns legally, or gang-members who purchase guns on the black market? Now, does gun control stop gang members who purchase guns on the black market? Obviously not. I knew what the OP was trying to get across, but he was dodging any responsiblity of trying to explain himself and advance the debate any further. I was trying to push him to formulate a mature and cogent argument, but he has yet failed to do so.
Guns aren't the only things that can damage the human body. Knives can disembowel a person. Clubs can cave in the skull. People can even be killed by fist and feet attacks. In fact, in the U.S. more people are murdered each year by fist and feet than are murdered by rifles. You concentrate on guns violence but ignore all the other forms of violence. My gun enables me to effectively resist violence should I ever become a target.
Have you ever seen a child crippled or killed by a push bike accident? The number of kids killed or severely injured on push bikes is obscene, check out the statistics. What do you suggest we do? Ban push bikes? Junk food kills more people than firearms. What do you suggest we do ? I can`t see the logic in crucifying responsible gun owners, while pampering criminals. Criminal organisations are now smuggling pistols into Australia, anyone can buy one. Criminals will always arm themselves. The reality is, targeting responsible people while pampering criminals is exactly the same as rewarding drink drivers while persecuting safe drivers with clean records.
