I don't think many people are happy with either one. Regardless, they don't dig nearly as deep as what you are used to. Still, every freedom comes at a price. If your government decided to oppress you, there is nothing that the people could do to stop it. You'd end up having to beg other countries (like the US) to come help. At least in the US, the citizens could put up a fight.

What does that have to do with this incident? Oh, nothing. Our invasion? Regardless, if your military members have any honor at all, your queen could take over the country, disband parliament and go right back to monarchical rule if she so desired. Your soldiers swear allegiance to the queen, not to the country, the citizens or the government.

As for defending against tanks and the military, the military in the US is sworn to support and defend the constitution which guarantees the free rights of individuals and limits government. If our soldiers have any honor, they would stand against any government leader that tried to take over the country and oppress the citizens. Each state also has its own sovereign military - equipped with the same tanks, aircraft and other weapons as the national army, but subject to the state, not the federal government. These state-run posts are spread out throughout the state and are manned by local citizens - the same ones that would likely be standing up against federal oppression. So the citizens that would be standing up against the federal government would likely have access to the same technology, if not as much of it.

Our country is built on carefully limited and divided powers - and even the military is designed in that manner.

This is what we need to be doing to crazy shooter, kill them on the spot, 1. it is what they deserve. 2. it save a lot of money on trials, 3. maybe just mabe it will deliver the message to others that it is a bad idea to go out and kill people.

You know, the other day I was channel surfing and Terminator 2: Judgement Day came on. Now granted, that movie must have come out ... what, twenty-ish years ago? The point being that for it's time, the movie was extraordinarily advanced in terms of computer graphics and morphing capabilities. But even beyond that, the sheer amount of creativity necessary to simply come up with the vision for such a thing, much less produce it - is pretty much a uniquely American thing. There's a certain argument to be made that Japan can do it as well, in their own way and with their own style; they're certainly a nation on the move as well. But I don't think England ever had the capability to come up with a movie like that. Or possibly once in a while, but time after time? Nope.

But most of Europe is a welfare state in decline, yet still living in a fantasy world when their culture dominated the planet. And knowing that their time has gone, we allow them their illusions out of kindness, because we know full well that if push came to shove, that our military could blow you off the map. We're nice like that.

I find it hilarious that you talk tough about America (and you have the right) but the second someone fires back, boy do YOU get on the defensive. Yet another thing uniquely European, perhaps? You can dish it out but can't take it?

In all seriousness: Were you to, oh I dunno, complain about a particular topic in America, say Crime in Chicago, that's perfectly fair game. But no, your argument is "America sucks!". It's not that simple.
If it goes bad, a LOT of military will refuse to fire on fellow american civilians. A LOT of them will change sides..bringing their..."talents" and "equipment" with them. You're very short sighted and clearly have no idea how things work in the real world.

What bugs me about these things is they report the dead shooter as one of the dead. Technically true, but it gives the impression as though they are somehow victims as well. I'd prefer they reported as one innocent victim and one vermin killed. It would just give off a better impression...

 

Lets not forget that there are plenty of well armed civilians that have served. We call the Vets over here.
Some of us have our own little arsenals and the capacity to manufacture ammunition. Civilians make the bullets and tank rounds and we deliver the munitions. If anything the military will help the people revolt if the time comes. DC Cops can stand for how long against a platoon of tanks and a flight of 16s?

I am sure those who know about the sizes of these units are laughing their asses off at the moment but when you think about it that is all it would take.

18 United States Code Section 871 and 18 United States Code Section 2385. The first, 18 USC 871, criminalizes “any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States, the President-elect, the Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President of the United States, or the Vice President-elect.” So, in layman’s terms, if you threaten to hurt the President or his successor, you may get to spend some time in the federal pen.

The second, 18 USC 2385, makes a federal felon out of anyone who advocates the “propriety of overthrowing or destroying the government of the United States or the government of any State, Territory, District or Possession thereof, or the government of any political subdivision therein, by force or violence, or by the assassination of any officer of any such government.” In other words, never threaten to overthrow the government through any violent act.

It was relevant to this discussion as the theoretical attack on civilians was proposed by a foreign entity. We are to be served by the constitution which our troops are sworn to uphold. Therefore I pointed out some things to our foreign rabble rouser.

Do notice I never mentioned killing anyone and I did qualify my statement.

The person I was replying to seems to want our military to attack our people and therefore I was simply stating my opposing view.
