So kick the grannies out of the nursing homes and poor kids out of the doctors' office.

Vote Romney 2012. Save tax cuts for billionaires before it is too late for America.

It's basic facts. You don't get to 47% unless you include the folks getting SS and kids getting medicaid. The folks who lack personal responsibility and are dependent on the Govt.

CNN is hardly the liberal media. But feel free to show the proof that the "liberal media" is wrong. I'd be interested to see your evidence.

Hardly, there is no such thing as 'basic facts' anymore. Everything is twisted by political agendas. For every source on one set of numbers there is a contradictory source.

You are funny, CNN isn't part of the liberal media? That's a good one, almost spit my coffee!

I was really sorry to see this topic (in general, not just this thread or forum) degenerate into an attack on Americans vs. a productive discussion on the big government system. The parties use our emotions as a weapon and we quite willingly let them. Agendas are served and problems remain unsolved. I know for a fact that we have third and fourth generation welfare families in the country. I know some of them personally. I think it is a sorry state of affairs. However to label 47% of this country as lazy bums is not fair either. There are some that I'm very willing to excuse from paying taxes, those who paid into SS deserve their benefits, or children who need the government assistence. We're actually talking about two separate 47% statistics: 47% who do not pay federal income taxes and 47% who are dependent in some way on the federal government. I'm sure there is some overlap but they are not necessarily the same group of people. Bottom line: both numbers are way too high.

To them, if you don't support more tax cuts for billionaires, it must mean you don't have a job and are one of the moochers.

The concept that you might be acting not out of direct self-interset, but out of interest for other people or the nation as a whole is a concept that doesn't even register in the minds of most of them, in my experience.

The republican answer to that question is simple.

You are mistaken. I didn't lump granny with the moochers at all. That would be Mitt Romney you're looking for.

Because a flat tax is a regressive tax that unproportionally effects the poor ( they give up far more of their salary % wise in taxes than someone further up the pay scale ) and leaves a lot less money left over for you know... food, and housing and stuff.

Ill never agree ti a flat tax. It hurts to many poor people, and helps too many rich people.

No matter how many times I disprove this to you, you seem to be compelled to repeating this lie over and over again.

You have absolutely no idea how a regressive tax works. But ill sum it up easily in a couple words.

    Your wrong.

Its a good thing the moochers are not in the majority of those folks, and people who legitimatley need help make up the bulk of that number. Not, as you are suggesting, the other way around.

Again. As I have pointed out in this thread. I am a livberal. I have a job. A high paying job. Therefore your insinuation that liberals dont hold jobs is false.

A flat tax is not regressive by definition. It is a flat rate income tax on all income, regardless of the total income made.

However, I certainly agree that such a tax disproportionately burdens the poorer.

A 20% tax to a family making $20,000 means they do without or with less basic necessities.

A 40% tax to a family on $20,000,000 means they might have to buy a smaller mega-yacht.

which is why no one rich or poor should be paying a flat tax for dollars earned under the poverty rate, for every dollar above that they should pay the same flat tax on all income
