Why is a narrow tax base deemed acceptable by the O-bots?

Most of these people have already been screwed due to a weakened dollar, unemployment, and underemployment due to the bad policies of both the left and the right. They certainly don't need another kick while they're down. Not to mention, the uber rich are gaming the system, it's the working/middle/upper middle/borderline rich shouldering the load. We need to abolish the income tax, stop printing money, and cut spending.

So the lefties all cry "pay your fair share" to the rich...my question is simply, when are you moochers going to begin paying any at all?

As for welfare being broken, yes it is, pretty much all the government programs are broken.

Can anyone name a single government program that has come in on time and at or under budget? Just one that hasn't ended up costing us billions more than previously "planned"? One that hasn't been corrupted to high h**l?

The Fairtax would be awesome, and the greatest transfer of power back to the people since the Constitution.

At one time , there were OVER SIXTY CO-SPONSORS for it, on the Hill.

The government IS the problem. The moochers are a large part of it.

Good point. For too long we've let government gut the middle class with "trickle down" policies to enrich the 1%. For too long has most of the growth of the nation's wealth an income gone to the 1% instead of being fairly distributed. For too long have we suffered the effects of unabraided speculation fueled by a tax system to taxes speculative investment at less than half the rate as earned income.

For too long have we allowed the richest like Romney to pay tax rates that are less than half the marginal tax rates many working family pay.

Kick all those old grannie moochers out in the street eh?

Maybe in your conservative ideal of America.

What does "come in on time" even mean?

But I would like to point out something from your first sentence. 28.3% of the people paying no federal income tax are paying payroll taxes, state income taxes, excise taxes, sales taxes, etc. Not to mention that many of these people are not paying any income taxes because of Republican endorsed tax cut plans, including EITC, which Reagan called “the best anti-poverty, the best pro-family, the best job-creation measure to come out of Congress."?

    That (*)(*)(*)(*) liberal Reagan!

And remove one of the most valuable tools in the progressive left's "victim/oppressor" toolbox? Surely you jest?!

Are you factoring in those who are claiming dependents in their households though? Of course you aren't. I know a few people who make their living on cash payments only. You gonna factor in those types of people as well? Of course you aren't.

I don't know why people are opposed to a national sales tax and since the income tax will never disappear since its an actual ammendment of the constitution why not at least make it a flat tax. Everyone should have some skin in the game and I also think they need to stop the automatic withdrawals. Make people write out a check to the government ever year or six months so they can see how much they are actually forking over. That would open alot of minds.

Great proposals if your goal is to have the rich pay less and the poor pay more. Which is why guys like Steve Forbes like to push these sorts of things.

Personally, I don't think we need policies to make the rich even richer and the poor even poorer. The skyrocketing inequality gap is bad enough as it is.

Here's the most idiotic thing about Romney's comments. Even if he was right about 47% of Americans being on welfare, does he not realize that half of those people are Conservatives that will be voting for him? Most cons come from rural, small towns in lower income states. The "red" states are almost universally more impoverished and lower income, and they vote red for no other reason than their daddy's voted red and their grandpappys voted red. Fortunately for Romney, that half of the "47" is so stupid, they won't realize that he was actually dissing them and stating how worthless they were. That's why they've voted republican their whole life, not realizing that it wasn't in their best interest.

Romney would have a point if that "47" were all liberals, when the reality is they simply aren't.

Wait until Obama has more "flexiblity": to work with Putin.

You will see the American Oil Indistry Nationalized after the media and the democrats villify the Oil Companies and strangle them by restricting drilling and that pipe line from Canada.

Give 4 more years, the Health Care System will become Socialized Medicine real quick as the cost create another emergency as an excuse to fine tune the initial plan.

Energy and Health Care represent 25% of the economy.

Under the pretext of controlling what can be posted on the Internet, a board for censorship will take over and then the whole world is ready for prganized propaganda from the top down.

Shame shame shame, how can you possibly blame the elite politicians who are in bed with bankers. They provide the jobs that a lot of folks don't have.

Perhaps you should realize that statements such as the one Romney made are offered because they're correct, and don't first consider who will like it.

Having said that, I seriously doubt your claim of 'half'. People on lifetime entitlements do not consider the GOP friendly to them.

How does that even make sense. It is entirely based on what you spend and income and nothing else. If you are poor you aren't going to be spending as much on a car as a rich person so they will in fact be paying less national sales tax. There is literally no way you can claim that a national sales tax is somehow going to hurt poor people more because by definition they aren't going to be spending as much. They guy buying the small 12 foot boat is paying far fewer taxes than the guy buying the 50 ft yacht. Most national sales tax proposals that have been put forward also exempt things like food and basic necessities like states do with their sales taxes, so in fact that wouldn't even have a bearing on poor people.

How exactly is everyone paying 10-15% of their income somehow unfair. The rich will still be paying more in taxes because once again they are rich.
