Quite understandable. Religion and communism are closley related. Both teach altruism.
One does it through fear of God and the other does it through government force.
You should'nt fear God and you should'nt fear the government.
God has never given man a reason to fear him. Government? well only a fool would trust them.

I think they're foolishly following an anti-religious doctrine that is a part of their understanding of what Communism ought to be. Cracking down on religion is probably a way for them to crack down on possible sedition, anyway, and if there's one thing common to every incarnation of Communism (and every other heavy-handed system of government) on a national scale, it is attempting to control what people think, say and do in order to maintain some sort of top-down control.

This atheist abhors Communism, and I expect that there are Communists out there who are religious and/or support the right of people to be religious.

 

Communisms problem is not the none belief of the individuals who condone it but rather the systems likeness to religion.

I'm pretty sure that rstones' problem is with the implication that atheism is somehow bad, or that it leads to communism. They may be mistaken about your conclusion, but there's no doubt that you're also implying that atheism is bad with your OP.

 

Christians have ALWAYS been persecuted in China. They primarly see it as the religion of the imperialist West.

China is not majority atheist. It is majority Buddhist/Confucianist. I'm not seeing what atheism has to do with anything here.

 

China has continued to be a majority Buddhist/Confuncionist country even after Communism.

Russia never stopped being majority Orthodox.

North Korea actively worships Kim Jong Un.

None are examples of atheist nations.

I think there are atheists who are not communists.

But from the very beginning Marxism was the enemy of the Christian church.

Socialism has become the religion for many on the left.
