Non-sense BHK, these officers were looking out for the welfare of this poor individual. Maybe she didn't know that bottle of water could've been laced with something that she didn't know about. Those officers were simply trying to help her out so she didn't harm herself.

I say she should've been charged with injurying the officer with her SUV. The officers were merely trying to help her out, then she goes and hurts them. Kind of sounds like the epitome of irony.

Why can we still afford a War on Drugs that has never worked?

Apparently if you film the police, they can not only arrest you without cause and warrant - but they get to kill your dog too.

The dumb thing is that this could have been entirely avoided. But you have these trigger happy, power tripping idiots without a single inkling of common sense enforcing their will - not the law, on the people of this country.

    Greek tragedy occurred here.

Cops don't work for you. They work for the politicians. The ones who presume to make the rules that you have to obey, like it or not.

I'm a free man, I never gave anyone leave to be my guardian. I can handle my own affairs. Cops these days are akin to the Nazi SS. Doing their master's bidding. They are not there to protect American values, they are not there to protect our freedoms, they are there to intimidate and to force you into submission, to take away your freedoms.

    That's the bottom line.

Seems like a breach of the 5th amendment if you ask me. You're body is a part of you, and you are not suppose to be compelled to convict yourself. That is the job of the state.

Just ordered Rise of the Warrior Cop by Radly Balko.

    Detailed item info
    Synopsis
The American approach to law enforcement was forged by the experience of revolution. Emerging from the shadow of British rule, the country's founders feared that a heavy-handed, national police force would pose a threat to liberty in the new United States. Yet excessive force and a disregard for the Bill of Rights have become epidemic in today's world. According to civil liberties reporter Radley Balko, these are all symptoms of a generation-long shift to increasingly aggressive, militaristic, and arguably unconstitutional policing - one that would have shocked the conscience of America's founders. Rise of the Warrior Cop traces the arc of U.S. law enforcement from the constables and private justice of colonial times to the present-day SWAT teams and riot cops. Today, relentless "war on drugs" and "war on terror" pronouncements from politicians and battle-clad police forces with tanks and machine guns have dangerously blurred the distinction between cop and soldier. Balko's fascinating, frightening narrative shows how martial rhetoric and reactionary policies have put modern law enforcement on a collision course with the values of a free society.

The last days of colonialism taught Americas revolutionaries that soldiers in the streets bring conflict and tyranny. As a result, our country has generally worked to keep the military out of law enforcement. But according to investigative reporter Radley Balko, over the last several decades, Americas cops have increasingly come to resemble ground troops. The consequences have been dire: the home is no longer a place of sanctuary, the Fourth Amendment has been gutted, and police today have been conditioned to see the citizens they serve as an other--an enemy. Todays armored-up policemen are a far cry from the constables of early America. The unrest of the 1960s brought about the invention of the SWAT unit--which in turn led to the debut of military tactics in the ranks of police officers. Nixons War on Drugs, Reagans War on Poverty, Clintons COPS program, the post-9/11 security state under Bush and Obama: by degrees, each of these innovations expanded and empowered police forces, always at the expense of civil liberties. And these are just four among a slew of reckless programs. In "Rise of the Warrior Cop," Balko shows how politicians ill-considered policies and relentless declarations of war against vague enemies like crime, drugs, and terror have blurred the distinction between cop and soldier. His fascinating, frightening narrative shows how over a generation, a creeping battlefield mentality has isolated and alienated American police officers and put them on a collision course with the values of a free society.

    Reviews
Anthony D. Romero, Executive Director, American Civil Liberties Union "Excessively militarized policing is easy to ignore when a SWAT team is ramming down someone else's door or tear-gassing someone else's protest. What makes Rise of the Warrior Cop so important is that Mr. Balko makes police militarization real for all of us. This is a meticulously researched history book that casts needed light on a central civil liberties issue. Police militarization is something we should all care about, and Rise of the Warrior Cop will show you why." Arianna Huffington, president and editor-in-chief, The Huffington Post "With his thorough reporting and compelling storytelling gifts, Radley Balko builds a powerful narrative of the militarization of our police forces, which both liberals and conservatives have allowed to flourish. And he shows the chilling results of both parties' unwillingness to stand up to increasingly aggressive police tactics that often pit cops against those they are sworn to protect." Ron Paul, former Texas congressman and Republican presidential candidate " Rise of the Warrior Cop is a comprehensive look at the reasons for, and the results of, the increasing militarization of law enforcement. Civil libertarians on the left and limited government conservatives on the right should pay especially close attention to Radley Balko's examination of the link between the 'the war on drugs' and law enforcement's increased use of police state tactics." Norm Stamper, thirty-four-year police veteran and police chief of Seattle, Washington, 19942000 "A rich, pertinent history, with unexpected but critically important observations of the increased militarization of American policing. And so well presented: clear, lucid, elegantly crafted. Rise of the Warrior Cop should be on the shelves of every police chief, sheriff, and SWAT commander in the country. A huge contribution."

finally got my blood pressure back down. Anyone who denies that we are living in a police state is a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing liar. They are like the germans of old. Shush , be quiet, don't look at them, if they're not looking for me, I'm not going to get their attention. But the all time favorite.....It never happened to me so it never happens at all......danged tin foilers.
    when is enough, enough?

Third Amendment violation? Certainly a sign that police are an occupying force

    http://www.courthousenews.com/2013/07/03/59061.htm

** I think this one is particularly egregious. There really is no good reason for what they did, nor the way they treated the homeowner. For those who adore the police, remember, this could be you if, for some reason, you don't want them taking over your home for whatever reason they deem important. "Obstruction of police activity" means they can do whatever they want to you. Got a problem? Take it to court and drain all your resources and be harassed by the local department.

Only the Right keeps claiming the "sky will fall" if we don't have a police State even if our federal Congress cannot justify police State taxes.

the 72 year old.................“Our DPS troopers work every day to ensure that all visitors and staff at the Texas Capitol remain safe and that order is maintained,” Cesinger wrote. “It’s unfortunate that some find it is easy to pass judgment on the officers who are risking their lives every day to protect and serve Texas.”(The State) ............this is untended to be a joke, right? what happened to protecting and serving the people............

Hawthorne, Ca Police Kill Dog(1) Fair warning, this is a very graphic video at the end. Be careful watching this video around others.

Follow up to a previous posting of the guy who posted something on Facebook, that was deemed offensive, and he's now getting abused in prison.

I must say, I love rule #3. Nothing says 'I'm free' than having the police randomly search my stuff. For public safety, of course.

Why was the dude with the dog even handcuffed? Is taking pictures a crime? If so, then maybe we should eliminate all public venue cameras that take pictures of the populace, as a form of comity under Article 4, Section 2.

He was put under arrest because he was video taping the police. Too much of this occurs and they abuse their power. This is another overall point to this thread, cops abusing their power and we, as citizens, have limited power against it. It's either rebel against it or have your life shattered because that arrest may stay on your record for a long time.

Not to mention now a dead dog because of it. Even made the owner watch him execute his dog, horrible. No reason for any of it and I can guarantee you that the statement from that police department will be 'We found that the officers acted appropriately and we regret that the dog had to be shot. Our officers have every right to protect themselves, and in this instance, they acted appropriately'.

    What a joke...

Why was Any use of force used to detain/arrest the person in the video for merely video taping public servants in public venues; from my understanding, there is even less reasonable "expectation" of privacy from the public sector in public venues.

I would like to take this time and opportunity to petition for redress of grievances, Acts which may be considered repugnant to Article 4, Section 2 of our supreme law of the land when used to justify the use of force for only those privileged enough to to work in the public sector even without having to join a public sector political party.

Keep recording, but realize that the injustice system protects its own.

Meanwhile, there's another "police state" thread starting over the home invasion in Las Vegas (officers arrest owner in order to take over home for surveillance.) The conservatives are blaming this on Obama, and the leftists are diverting. It's hilarious to watch when there's absolutely nothing redeemable in favor of "law" enforcement and both sides of the pro-police state debate have to fight each other.

I believe Article 4, Section 2 applies. Maybe we really just need "perjury against the People" laws.
