Look, if you are bullying, dehumanizing or disparaging other human beings, it should be considered 'intolerable' (unacceptable, wrong, evil...etc.) If a person cannot see racism, then I cannot teach them with only 'words'; they are lost, until they find themselves. I'll say it this way: ___holes of virtually ANY type, are NOT the people we should revere or elect. Those are generally NOT the people who will do the most good. That is not hard to understand. People need to be smarter and see the real problems for what they are. Stop making excuses for what resides at the lower levels of our very 'human' nature.
I can guarantee that if the 1st Black prez would have been say GOP Collin Powell (at 'that' time), the Right would been out celebrating the 1st Black Presedent!!
Oh absolutely. Or if McCain/Palin has won they would have been celebrating that it was the 'intolerant' party that first placed a woman in one of the two top executive office positions in this nation. Politics is politics.
Well, I'm not hung up on personalities at this point. I mean, there are many I could point at and blame for something; that's for certain. What I'm more concerned with is the attitudes of Americans in general. The person who thinks that racism is something to 'ignore', is a far greater problem than the person who would point it out and put it down. That takes some maturity and courage. Everything is not "okay" (America), just because one WANTS it to be.
Well, that is an interesting hypothetical, but hardly a reflection of reality. I saw what happened to Colin Powell at the hands of the Bush administration, and have many thoughts I won't bother expressing here.
I can see his point...'resurrecting' the visibility of racism doesnt really help resolve it, just picks the scab of old wounds...and can fan the flames and rejuvenate it!
All sweet sounding and reasonable until the Left reclassifies a brown-skinned man White-Hispanic for the purpose of making a court case into a White versus Black issue when really it never was. That's when it becomes a problem that ONLY one party 'decides' for a curiously compliant mainstream media what is or is not racism. Oddly enough the same mainstream media that goes to the notorious race hustlers Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton for their 'wise' counsel. So racism is simply a political tactic in this nation utilized by (primarily) the Left to advance their ideologically-based agenda. Or so it very definitely seems so to half of the nation.
People's minds need to expand. For one thing, if we don't think big enough to get our heads around a problem that DOES NOT FADE, then we should already understand that the problems with race can/will overtake us. How many times do we need to REPEAT that, to learn better? No, there is no use in ignoring racism. To deal with it, is indeed the only way; it will not simply fade from existence or effect.
So you are unaware that both Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice were names seriously bandied about at one time among the GOP leadership and voting public as possible and quite viable presidential candidates? It wasn't exactly a secret at the time, you know.
His SERVICE transcended; his ethnicity certainly surely has not. It's like the Black guy with the right amount of money can be tolerated by many (due to his money); but the rest of who that person is is no more embraced than the common homeless man on the street.
Isn't openly talking about it in a manner inclusive of the Left/Right divide a step in the process of resolving national issues of racism?
'Expanding ppl's minds' is not the same as making EVERYTHING about racism! That is just another form of bigotry!
Why is it they were NOT propelled to the top/front? My response to your notion is: So what?! What does that prove? - - - Updated - - - How can you not realize the above isn't truly a reflection of what I have implied overall? Bigotry??!!! Come on, please be reasonable.
Well, because both of them not only said no (individually) but "Hell no!" (or effectively so). The ultimate executive position is not for everyone's taste and nor is embarking on a massive and emotionally torturous political campaign when neither person had ever been in any sort of political campaign at all. As to why it matters and what does it prove? Aren't you interested in knowing that the notion that the GOP leadership and that GOP voters are slavering at the mouths racists . . . is a false notion?
Okay. I'm finished with this thread, right here. I hope people can eventually relax their comfortable or commonly accepted paradigms, and work more toward real solutions. I've spoken with literally thousands of people about these things, and there is little doubt in my mind that America suffers from a degree of blindness concerning racism. It usually takes some crisis to RIP people from their slumber on the matter overall. People are simply 'comfortable' in what they think... rather than become proactive in solving the real problems that exist. Things will change more over time, but not outside of the efforts of many valiant and honorable people with a clear view to make a difference. -Regards to All-
Okay. Still, I seriously doubt the usefulness of covering this 'topic', within the pages of this forum. People will likely just cling to what they are 'comfortable' or familiar with. And while I would not label the GOP as being "racist" per se, it is true enough that 'racism' is too often found amongst and implemented as a tool within the same. (I WISH that I could ignore that; but it is very evident.) Peace.
Remember, 'bigotry' is not just about 'race:' bigĀ·ot (bgt) n. One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ. Ta Ta
Just as GOPers genuinely believe that they routinely detect politically orientated race-baiting activities on the Left, designed to stir up or create racism. So it goes.
It's called an Honest Discussion About Racism, and temper flaring does the topic no good! But as your 2 'counter-posters' have agreed upon, "over time" will be required to aid in resolving---not more finger pointing and scab picking......
People are generally hostile here, as soon as you press upon the bubble of their narrow little views. I'm sure this forum is not the place for this topic to be 'honestly' explored.
