Was the underlying conversation about racism?

Sorry, but the article originated in People Magazine. The title of the article was "The Obamas: How We Deal with Our Own Racist Experiences". Her story was about the woman who asked her to get something from a higher shelf. So you tell me if this is still "hilarious". It is pathetic that it was the only thing that she could think of. And Valerie Jarrett asked a general for another drink at a party. She thought his military uniform was a waiter's uniform. To his credit, he did not correct her and brought her the drink. Is SHE pathetic or what? Is she racist?

Well, you may want to read the thread, including the OP. If you did, you'd see that Michelle Obama didn't complain about racism (or even mention it) whatsoever -- regardless of which store it is. But that hasn't stopped the Right from making up an elaborate story about it. Please continue.

You do realize this isn't the actual article. You might wanna wait till you can read the sentence before and the sentence after the un-contexted quote.

For more from our exclusive interview with the president and first lady, pick up the new issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday

    ^^ We shall revisit Friday.

Of course I understand that. I have said all along there is no racism in her statement, so it makes no sense that it is in that article.

I assume People magazine erroneously included it in their web site's version of the article.

I hope that is the case.... I'd hate to think that the Obama's had to come up with stories about people avoiding her at Target, or Barack being handed keys to get a car, as their experiences with "racism".

What about this - The title of the article was "The Obamas: How We Deal with Our Own Racist Experiences".

Do you think that she threw the story about the short woman in to just fill space?

Even though I've never agreed with pretty much anything you've ever said. I do think you are correct on this one.:)

    Exactly. It's a dishonest right-wing blog.

Show me where she mentions race:

PF MO haters: No she didn't. She's lying. O. M. G. I can't believe she said that....its racist. Wait. I believe it. She hates , 'murica.

    I see nothing racist there...

I certainly hope when the full People article is released that it isn't being used as a racist experience.

As of now, People Magazine is sure making it look like Mrs. Obama thinks that's a racist experience.

Michelle's "story" has a "Bosnian sniper fire" ring to it.

Until it was altered, the title of this thread read "K-Mart", not "Target", pilgrim.

Ah! I see. I stand corrected. I apologize, I read the text and watched the video and didn't see any racism. Didn't catch that they are claiming it was racism now when back then they were just chalking it up to the other woman being short.

For some reason you've been confused - I'm sorry. The topic is the Obamas giving an interview about their racist experiences and MO told her story about wandering thru Target in disguise w/her assistant and only one lady approached her, but only to ask her to get something off the top shelf for her......

Take it for what it's worth, which actually is worth nothing, considering the strict rules of the secret service in their protection of the 1st family.

She is the one who brought up racism.

In an interview with People magazine hitting the newsstands, first lady Michelle Obama says that during a 2011 trip to the Target store in Alexandria, she was asked by a customer to help get something from a shelf.

The Obamas talked with the magazine about dealing with “racist experiences,” as the magazine described it. The story is headlined: “The Obamas: How We Deal With Our Own Racist Experiences.”

The store is located at the Potomac Yards shopping center off of Route 1 in Alexandria, just across the river from Washington, D.C.

“I tell this story – I mean, even as the first lady – during that wonderfully publicized trip I took to Target, not highly disguised, the only person who came up to me in the store was a woman who asked me to help her take something off a shelf. Because she didn’t see me as the first lady, she saw me as someone who could help her. Those kinds of things happen in life. So it isn’t anything new,” Michelle Obama, who is 5’11”, told the magazine

Good grief. Maybe three times a month I head straight to the store after work because my wife wants me to pick up something - and I'm still wearing my suit and tie. And what happens? I get asked by some random customer what aisle something is on. Oddly enough, that never happens on a Casual Friday when I'm wearing jeans.

Yeah Barry - you look like a professional, you're going to be treated like someone who works there. Nice try. Should I start whining that these racists are profiling me too?

    That video is pretty damning.

A story was funny two years ago but its racist now? What a class act she is.

Its Target, not K-Mart, and the story was...about their "experiences" with racism. Michelle Obama brought up the Target story to People Magazine, knowing what the topic would be.

Apparently she believes that being on par with whites means being better than others or being some kind of God or something to be served and fawned over. God forbid she be asked by a lowly other for a hand with something. Boy is she warped. Is this a true story? Is she really that out of touch with reality?

Well, you know Michelle is black, and she was speaking about something that happened to her, so obviously the non-white racism crowd will assume she had to have been speaking about it because she was black.
