The 2007 Colorado YWAM and New Life shootings were a killing spree that occurred on December 9, 2007. In the early "morning hours, 24-year-old Matthew J. Murray opened fire at the Youth With A Mission training center in Arvada, Colorado, with a pistol, killing two and wounding two others before escaping. Later that afternoon, he attacked the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with a number of firearms, killing two more people and injuring three before being shot and wounded by a member of the church's congregation; he then committed suicide."

What was his motivation? Killing Christians?? Maybe.. but perhaps he WAS abused?

    More likely = boop-shoot crazy.

    http://murderpedia.org/male.M/m/murray-matthew.htm

But assuming you're correct it in NO way backs up the War on Christians meme in this case.

I mean, c'mon. We killed a couple of million innocents in Boy Blunder's ill-advised social experiment in Iraq.

Was that a War on Islam?

    Nope, merely stupidity.

This is about the shootings in South Carolina. Try to stay on topic, if you can.

If the pastor didn't own a gun, then why not?

If the pastor owned a gun and didn't have a CCW, then why not?

If the pastor owned a gun and had a CCW and never brought the gun to his church, then why not?

You are only as ready for any situation that may come your way as you let yourself to be.

I never leave the house without my gun and CCW permit. I'm always ready.

The same thing i suppose. There are NUTS out there who should not have guns.

This is the Fox News one-off response of course -- congratulations!

Dude, c'mon. You spent the first day pretending that this was neither a black church nor a hate crime.

    You lost.

Tour both one day soon and get back to me as to the differences ... either demographically or politically.

Good post and thanks BB. Not sure about your 6000 gun law claim, and perhaps it is correct (the majority of which are state laws which have no meaning).

For instance, you have a major gun laws in NYC & Chicago but an idiot can drive about an hour and buy whatever the F he wants in a neighboring state.

    Right?

So how about we throw them all out and start over.

Okay, states rights are cool.. if only conservatives would LIVE by them (E.g. Ashcroft vs Oregon's Death with Dignity and the Feds continued insistence in challenging legalization of pot in Oregon and Colorado and med marijuana elsewhere).

In most major cities, you can drive for an hour or two and be in a different state, attend a gun show or visit a pot store and bada-bing.

What i'm saying is, the issue is wrought with ClusterF peril.

This is where the federal government (as much as you may hate it) can come in and clarify a few things.

Am i right, or should we all become separate nations.

Seem like where we might be headed!

So resorting to bold face lies now eh? I waited for facts to come out. That simple. And no matter how badly you want it to be an all black church it is not. Now go lie about something else i said to make yourself feel better... Or perhaps use one of your 15 screen names to attack me with... Feel free.

You cannot legally buy a hand gun in another state and get it at the store. It must be shipped to a FFL dealer in your state where you can pick it up, all for an additional cost of course. It is possible to buy a long rifle in different state and get it from the store although that may vary a bit from state to state.

So when people attend a church bible group and they don't come armed to the teeth, they are partially responsible for their own demise? People have a responsibility to not only fight the laws that don't let them come to church armed, but to actually come to church armed? Or else questionable individuals on internet forums will point a finger at them too instead of fully at the person who pulled the trigger of the gun that shot them?

That's great. I'll tell my Grandma you'll think less of her unless she's packing the next time she goes to church.

Perhaps the Pastor was just not bat-(*)(*)(*)(*) paranoid like some others. Just a thought.

As for the claim that if the Pastor had just had a gun, none of this would have happened? Just ask Chris Kyle what having the best training in the world and a gun on your person does to stop a crazy person. Oh, that's right - you can't ask him anymore.

This blaming of the pastor is pure BS by idiots.

Ever heard of buying at gun shows from unregistered, private dealers?

    Completely legal in most states.

In the Kliebold/Harris case they used a surrogate 18 year old chick to do the dirty even though they were 17 and had records.

    Beyond stupid.

True the private sale of firearms is perfectly legal. A person could also buy them out of classified ads. Personally I don't have a problem with requiring background checks on private sales that's why if I sale a gun it's to a gun shop. I take a hit on value but I don't have to worry about who's buying the gun. We have to register cars and if the government ever does start rounding up guns all hells going to breaking loose long before they get to me.

    He politicized it , fact
I have never carried at church and never will.
I could live with that just no registrations .
I don't carry during Church , I trust God will know what's right.
I have made private sales to people I know well never to a guy/gal off the street . I even told my Nieces Husband no once due his constant immature antics and just plain being a dope.

I want to add that my way off thinking is Church is Church there is no Black or White , if there is it is not Church.

Buying from private individual across state lines is illegal and a Federal felony.

Straw purchases are also illegal and a Federal felony.

You call it paranoid. I call it being prepared for any situation.

If the pastor and his congregation would have been more prepared, lives might have been saved.

It's your prerogative not to be prepared.

I choose to be prepared for any situation that life might throw at me.

What is this the OK Corral?

I'm a proponent of the 2nd amendment, however he NRA insists on perpetuating the "Rambo" fantasy while ignoring statistical realities.

For every one time a gun in the home was used in a self-defense or legally justifiable shooting, there were 4 unintentional shootings, 7
criminal assaults or homicides, and 11 attempted or completed suicides.

On average, states with the highest gun ownership levels had 9 times the rate of unintentional firearms deaths compared to states with the lowest gun
    ownership level.

I support the private citizen's right to legally own a firearm and carry it on their person if permitted to do so ...however I must call out the NRA on the parroting of "more guns means less crime" while ignoring the reality that more guns also means more accidental shootings...in fact a gun owner has a much higher probability of using the gun on themselves...suicide..than they will using the gun to defend themselves.

"Carry more guns!" seems to be their standard parroting response to these sorts of tragedies.

I can't even take them seriously anymore...they are turning into Rambo fetishists.

I am sorry you live in such a shiite hole community that requires a gun everywhere you go.

The stats the NRA refuses to acknowledge.

Has the NRA ever made a public statement on the hazards of gun ownership and mental illness?
Until they do, I will view them for what they are...a convenient mouthpiece for manufacturers.

It's called "Rambo syndrome"...machismo advertising plays into this fantasy of being the hero and saving the day...while in reality you are far more likely to blow your brains out with your gun than to defend your family from a stranger's ill intentions.

Again, I'm not advocating gun control, but a saner approach to this discussion is required beyond..."well if he was packing heat this would have had a different outcome." Perhaps it would, but at the expense of far more accidental shootings. For every actual real life "Rambo" using his or her gun to protect themselves...there are 4 accidental shootings, and 11 suicide by firearm. . Hey those are the numbers NRA, you're an ostrich with your head buried in the sand. The problem is mental illness and gun ownership...it's not the lack of guns and inability to carry them everywhere.

They never consider the fact that gun ownership and mental illness do not mix..."buy more guns." "Keep buying more guns" This is their solution.
