Even the security guards aren't armed - this is why the Virginia Tech shooting ended in so many deaths; the security guards could do nothing and had to just wait until police arrived.

What steps? Seriously which laws exactly would have stopped him? The gun was given to him by someone else as a birthday gift so no laws governing purchasing would have done anything. Waiting periods wouldn't have done anything either since he already had the gun for awhile. The left immediately called for gun control after Sandy Hook despite Connecticut have already extremely restrictive gun laws.

The facts are that there has been no increase in mass shootings according to the FBI and in fact despite more and more states passing CCW laws gun violence has dropped since the early 90s. Those are indisputable facts but people like you continue to stick your heads in the sand and ignore it because you don't like facts that go against your hyperpartisan preconceived notions of reality. You are the problem, not gun laws.

The people that lead our nation must be smart enough to know this. I certainly hope this whole gun-free zone idea isn't being pushed to prove a point that guns need to be taken away.

Eliminating gun-free zones isn't required. Eliminating the announcement of gun-free zones is. Obama and Hillary talk about common sense policies to deal with mass shootings. Well there yah go.

Right, and the creators of the "Doom" video game should be held legally responsible for Columbine :roflol:

And obese people should be able to sue fast food restaurants for forcing them to eat their food.

Even the writers of the Bible back in ancient times knew how stupid it was when Eve blamed the snake for offering her the fruit (instead of blaming herself for choosing to eat it)- it's sad that people don't today.

I do not trust Obama because he has a long history of lying. He has a zero level of trust. The comments he made are only soapbox posturing, and will do NOTHING to help fix our ill-moral society which is the catalyst for violent crime in the USA. Due to his influence and his position his comments harm far worse than the comments from the NRA member.

Adding more crappy laws to the 50,000 that already exist will only grow a already bloated federal government. No we now have to do the difficult things. Running those jaws isn't hard, funding mental health facilities and such things is difficult and expensive. And that my PF friends is the real reason people are dying, the dollars going to all the wrong greasy hands, the politicians are scared shirtless to enter into the no mans land of unpopular issues and actually DO SOMETHING.

The parents and caregivers of latchkey, unsupervised and lonely children are hiding behind work and making money as a reason their little bundles of love have morphed into hating violent juvenile delinquent criminals or quitely festering nutcases. The health care system turns mentally out to the street because the president Obamas, the congresses, the local politicians past and present don't have the political balls to fund and support unpopular issues. Lastly the CHURCH is dropping the ball and making hypocrites out of a large part of the worlds fair weather Christians. That pisses me off because I am a christian! The mega churches should take off that bling pawn it or even better do what the bible urges them to do~ tithe it! If not that give at LEAST 10%, and that money should go directly into repairing the community. Even individual Christians should volunteer and reach out to those that are needing the basics. The more poor and rough the neighborhood the more we Christians should go to volunteer our help. That is what makes Jesus smile. By our deeds we are known (to God), ie from John; 19 "It is by our actions that we know we are living in the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before the Lord.".

So, anyone with a modicum of common sense should by now know more gun laws will not stop anything, just like the war on drugs stops nothing and even promotes crime, a third grader knows where and how much it costs to score a key' of coke. Guns would be just as available if banned as a bag of weed is now in every state in America! It is going to take a lot more than sitting on our ass and writing ever more useless laws so we can imprison ever more of citizens, its going to take hard work including a lot of personal sweat labor.

OK, so some guy in Ohio can stop a man who he sees take a shotgun out of his car and was apparently distraught over his kids being taken away, and who knew the people by name .

This means that the 4 armed policemen must have been 'wusses' right?

And all of you are better trained than any old POLICEMAN, who does that kind of thing for a LIVING, right?

You people are posting the movie "Rambo" as a defense against your all having Rambo syndrome.

And HOW did "gun free zones" even get into the discussion

Last I looked the topic was some (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) blaming the people shot for not being armed themselves.

Yes, politicizing this tragedy within hours after it happening is such a consoling empathetic part of Obama

He's no different than the idiot from the NRA and his bull(*)(*)(*)(*) comments.

The truth is, there is no way to stop a nut from killing masses of people if they want to, and bad evil people will always manage to get guns when they would never qualify to own one legally. People will use anything they can get their hands on to kill, sadly it is what we're stuck with, but I do believe in the background check of any violent history will reduce crazy people from being crazier

As far as the laws, many of them over ride each other, and we have insane places like California wanting to register each bullet. The problem with government is they don't enforce what is already on the books, so they pass these redundant laws thinking they will solve the issue, which is total bull(*)(*)(*)(*)

Oh you mean this one? ; A churchgoer near Spartanburg, SC is being credited with saving the lives of fellow worshipers after a man kicked in the door of their church and leveled a shotgun. In Ohio, the man who is being called an "everyday hero" might have been arrested.http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/churchgoer-concealed-carry-permit-stops-man-shotgun
Some cops certainly are! Look at the tapes of Columbine and the other school shootings. They wait HOURS before going in. The goal is to eliminate the threat. However if cops are already at the scene I my cc would remain concealed, well unless I was in imminent danger then I would have a decision to make.
I would wager some are. However that is not the issue. CCs are for when the cops are on the way to a hold up etc and by the time they arrive everyone is shot in the head. Trust me I would say you would want the option of protecting yourself and your family rather than watching them die.

No, wadr I think its you that has an error filled preconceived opinion of we pro-firearm types. And I think a persons history and life events have a huge impact on their view of firearms and if they help or harm in a threat of being the recipient of severe bodily damage:omg:. Case in point; I did not like getting mugged, nearly killed along with having my teeth loosened and my lip split to nearly my ear. (those slap jacks are vicious) Thank God my wife or girlfriend wasn't with me. Where were the cops then? I would rather had my .45 that night than my cell phone. But back then I thought I could take on nearly any threat. Anyway, the only reason I was not a 'stiff stat' was because they thought the slap jack had knocked me out. Surprise! I made it through the car window, got the bronco in gear and hit one of them leaving on a flat.....now I always carry.

If you really don't know that ...ok the member was saying the creeps picked out the church because it was a gun free zone suggesting the people would be alive if they thought everyone was packing.

I believe that I read once or twice that the number of gun owners is decreasing while the number of guns in circulation is increasing. Says something about right wingers. As for me, I'd let anyone by any damn gun they wanted. However, if you wanted to buy ammo for (whatever), you'd need a permit and anyone to gave/sold that ammo would be just as responsible and liable if the person who receive it committed a crime. Also, all reloading equipment would require a license with the same background checks and clean records as those who want to buy automatic weapons today. Anyone found with reloading equipment and no license would have committed a felony.

Yep because if you can't kill the 2nd amendment up front then kill it one new law at a time over the course of decades and hope that the court system never tweaks to what leftist legislators and leftist presidents are doing. Sounds like a plan!

What's being killed? You can buy any gun you want; you can still go hunting; you can still go target shooting. The only people who've been disallowed are nuts and criminals, and that is still legal.

Oh don't get me wrong; Marxists and Socialists developed that legal tactic many decades ago -- using it for other things -- and then it filtered out to the practice of generic leftist activists, and I consider it a brilliant approach to systematically and legally chipping away at the 2nd Amendment (and other aspects of the Constitution that so very many leftists utterly despise) law by law by law, right before the eyes of the nation.

This way technically the 2nd Amendment will still exist and yet effectively it will have become meaningless since a host of little laws will combine their effects to render it null and void in practice. Brilliant!

It is amusing that when a nitwit like 0bama politicizes each and every little thing, it's A-OK and appropriate. But when anyone else does it, it's BAD BAD BAD.

Every day I thank God I'm not a liberal.

As for the pastor, yep, he voted AGAINST CCW. Oops!

No one knows if there were any people with CC. Why do people think that someone would draw attention to himself if him or his family are the next victim to be. When I questioned a similar post the only examples received to support their case were cases involving armed security guards and police officers (who are gun trained), and in many cases the gun man was shot while fleeing, so no one was actually saved by a Joe public on looker waving his gun around like "the rich texan" in The Simpsons..

Gotta hand it to you guys, you dutifully parrot your NRA talking points with magnificent perfection ... facts be damned.

Mass killings are on the rise per FBI: http://www.wsj.com/articles/mass-shootings-on-the-rise-fbi-says-1411574475
Additional link to same FBI report (the most recent) if needed: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/25/us/25shooters.html

Nobody is looking to "grab your guns". I would simply treat gun ownership no differently than car licensing.

    1) Must take a safety class as well as written and field test prior to being licensed (could be completed in 1 day)
    2) No loopholes (gun shows - buying across state lines - etc)
    3) Uniformity of law from state to state on licensing and sentencing
    4) National integrated database for criminal AND mental health BG checks
    5) Tougher sentences for anyone who breaks these laws - particularly for straw buyers
    6) No ammo sales through the mail
    7) As with a vehicle, you must report any and all individual sales or gifts to family members .. no exceptions

But we know ... it's TOO HARD and you're just going to use those databases to come back and grab 'em!

Oh i see, arming every 5-7 year old would have prevented Sandy Hook.

For church, if you're not packing .. you don't get to come in and pray.

Check, i'm certain that Wayne LaPierre would love those notions.

I haven't looked yet, but my hunch is you're gonna catch some hell for that one. ;)

Well then why did he go there? He specifically said that Pinkney (due to his votes) was responsible for 8 deaths.

Really? Give me some examples of Bush politicizing a tragedy?

BTW, just a little FYI, you will be lucking to find more than a handful of people in the last decade who have been arrested and convicted for selling guns through in straw purchases. Why don't Obama enforce the thousands of laws already on the books instead of his pathetic attempt to act as if more laws are needed? Maybe you can ask Obama how many guns have slaughtered innocent people who he gave two thousand guns to the drug cartels with Fast and Furious?
