I haven't read the decision, but is sure sounds like one I might like. but it's a drop in the bucket and examples are few and far between.
The big problem is that this shouldn't even be an issue in the 21st century. Women's rights move on a roller coaster pattern. For example, workplace sexual harassment was common in the 60's. Then women got all noisy and "uppity" and said, "stop it". Laws got passed , women got the right to work unmolested...this went well until the 90's when younger women and immigrant women entered the workplace . Some were unaware that what men said and did to them was wrong and unacceptable and they didn't know they had recourse to stop it and I saw it creep back into the workplace. I expect that as this set of women get fed up they will raise a stink one day, too, and fight it and they will be able to work unmolested for a few years, too. This is the problem with abortion. The younger women who may need abortion aren't paying attention to how their rights are being etched away. Anti-Choicers don't go directly at RvW because they know it's a brick wall that will call a lot of attention to their plan of criminalizing women for having rights. So they use dishonesty and outright lies and are aided by the youthful complacency and ignorance of politics of some women. Maybe when women realize """ fact is that there are fewer clinics performing abortions, larger geographic areas without any access and fewer practitioners willing to take the risks for so little gain """ the lightbulb will go on. When these women wake up they will come to the table with something, the fact that women are equal humans with the right to their own body just like everyone else. That really should be all that is needed.... Yes, there will always be the sickos who think men are humans with rights and women are "something else" , something "lesser than" men, whose rights can be trampled...... I don't think compromise with these cockroaches is the answer. We HAVE compromised and there's no compromise left that doesn't take away women's rights to their own bodies...
I don't have to do anything. I live in a FREE country where women are free to make medical decisions in consultation with their doctors. There is an anti choice faction but it's small and mostly quiet .....abortion is in no danger of being made illegal here. It's even covered under our health care system.
If you are satisfied with the status quo, I am pleased for you. I am increasingly worried that the right to an abortion is not worth very damn much, if you can't find a clinic in a day's drive, and the clinic can't find a doctor who can afford to be targeted, and the procedure is priced out of the reach of the women who need it. I have heard the anti-choice faction called a lot of things in my 50 years. But I have never heard them called 'mostly quiet'
The self-satisfied tale of contentment and security above, is inconsistent with the pro choice movement talking points. They are very concerned that the right to an abortion is in danger of being made illegal with even one SCOTUS appointment. They are harping about access. They are harping about costs. They are harping about clinics being regulated out of business and clinicians being driven from the field. From 2011 to 2014 Republican legislatures have added 231 new restrictions on abortion and its providers and venues more than twice as much as the proceeding decade. In Texas almost half the clinics have closed secondary to stricter building codes and the admitting privileges issue. In four states Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming just one remains. http://www.bloombergview.com/quicktake/abortion-and-the-decline-of-clinics This is from a Bustle article. "Since 1991, 75 percent of surgical abortion clinics have closed, leaving only 551 open in the U.S. That, combined with medication-only facilities, means that there are only 739 remaining clinics in the U.S. today. In 2014 alone there were 73 abortion clinics that closed down for all of part of the year..... "The Hill attributes the spikes in closures to the Republican takeover of the House in 2010 and huge GOP gains in state legislatures. Indeed, the war seems to be primarily fought at the state level. In the last legislative session, Missouri had 32 pieces of anti-abortion legislation filed to regulate its one surgical clinic open in the state. Texas continues to battle the omnibus abortion bill that was signed into law in 2013 that managed to shut down a large swath of the state's clinics. The ACLU sued to stop an Alabama law that would have appointed a lawyer for the fetus of a minor should she decide to ask the judge to waive parental consent laws." But it's nice to know that the pro choice alliance has this all under control with its brilliant strategy of depending on the courts to defend their honor. Why should I worry we need an omnibus reform compromise bill. We never needed more than one clinic in Mississippi anyway.
Even the Texas attempt to defund PP is a sham. All they've done so far is put PP on notice that the intend to deny Medicaid payments. Given the fact that every time PP has sued states who tried to deny them Medicaid funds the states have lost, I'm not that worried about it. In fact, HHS has put out there that states cannot stop qualified medical providers from receiving Medicaid payments, and that failure to abide by the law could result in completely cutting off federal Medicaid funds to such states. States Cant End Medicaid Funding of Planned Parenthood
It has been for the several surgeries my former wife went through. When I had oral surgery they had to show me the xrays and explain exactly what the problem was and what the surgery would entail before I could consent. What do you have against fully informing women about the medical procedure they are about to go through?
I had surgeries, no one forced me to view anything. I asked for and got a description of the actual surgery, what they were going to do. Women aren't as stupid as you think, they know what "pregnant" means.
Some people really like having radiation shot into their body, the more the better. So shooting radiation into developing fetus is something they would really like, particularly since it then could produce very unusual and interesting babies. But not all people like to be irradiated. Sonograms are also now VASTLY more powerful than were ever actually tested for safety and many experts claim they can cause serious, permanent birth defects like sticking a fetus in a microwave oven for a while.
Then let us turn this around - let us say you were one of the thousands of people who are phobic in relation to medical procedures - you have steeled yourself to undergo this because this is vital for your survival but that is all you want - for the procedure to be over instead you have someone forcing you to look at all the things they will do to you Sedation anyone?
Well, it is mostly quiet here. We just had a federal election and I didn't hear one word about abortion. - - - Updated - - - How does one have an adoption? And why are you being snarky with me? - - - Updated - - - I have never been shown test results, x rays or ultrasounds and I've had quite a few procedures, including dental. I have nothing against informing but it's not for govt to tell doctors what to do and it is not for either to force images on the patient if he/she does not want to see them.
My bad. I read abortion, not adoption. I apologize. But now my question is: Why do you think adoption is wrong? Just curious.
No problem. Various reasons. I am adopted and I know what it's like to grow up not knowing who you are or where you came from. Also, adoptees are more likely to be less well adjusted, have emotional problems etc. However, I do not believe in forcing my opinion on others, therefore I would never want to stop a woman from placing a child for adoption.
Gotcha. I have a friend who was adopted, and she shares some of the same feelings. I worked for Child Protective Services in the Conservatorship (foster care and adoptions) Unit for longer than I care to remember. I understand what you're saying, but sometimes being in foster care is better than being with birth parents, and in my experience at least, being adopted and having a permanent family is always better than being in foster care.
No let's keep it head on What do you have against fully informing women about the medical procedure they are about to go through just as with any other medically invasive procedure?
Well I find it hard to believe with informed consent laws these days in most states. I and my family have routinely had a pre-op meeting with the doctors and they went over the procedures using xray or MRI or Catscan or other relevant testing. You mean to tell me a Dentist did oral surgery on you and did not show you the xrays of what the problem was and explain how he was going to correct it? I'd get another Dentist. What state?
So is a woman using artificial insemination to impregnate herself so she can have a baby wrong too? Not because they were adopted and certainly no evidence of such with adoption at birth. Geez I would hope not if she has no desire to raise and love the child.
The office doing an abortion will REQUIRE a sonogram be performed before an abortion will be done and the safety of sonograms is not in question, they do not use radiation.
I am not in the USA. And I knew exactly what I was getting - my wisdom teeth removed. The dental surgeon did not need to show me pictures to describe what he was going to do. I was not a child.
I believe it is wrong. http://www.aboutkidshealth.ca/en/ne...ed-children-risks-and-protective-factors.aspx
So, allow me to pull the gay card...... Would you allow me to adopt a fetus or whatever to adopt a child, even though I am gay and the mother wishes to adopt out her child and she deems me a suitable parent.
