U.N. Security Council condemns North Korea launch, vows action.....

The United Nations Security Council on Sunday strongly condemned North Korea's latest rocket launch and promised to take punitive steps, while Washington vowed to ensure the 15-nation body imposed "serious consequences" on Pyongyang as soon as possible.

"The members of the Security Council strongly condemned this launch," Venezuelan Ambassador Rafael Dario Ramirez Carreno, president of the council this month, told reporters. He said the launch was "a serious violation."

He added that the 15-nation council "restated their intent to develop significant measures in a new Security Council resolution in response to the nuclear test" in January, as well as Sunday's rocket launch. He said they would work "expeditiously."

Standing alongside her Japanese and South Korean counterparts, U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power told reporters: "We will ensure that the Security Council imposes serious consequences. DPRK's (North Korea) latest transgressions require our response to be even firmer.".....snip~

The hypocrisy of what Samantha Powers said must have freaked China out, after the provocative and illegal incursions the US made into the S. China Seas.

"We are hopeful that China, like all council members, will see the grave threat to regional, international peace and security, see the importance of adopting tough, unprecedented measures, breaking new ground," Power added about her hopes for China in discussions on new sanctions on Pyongyang.

Who is threatened by a NK missile? Anything launched at SK will be destroyed by American assets before it travels 20 miles. More likely, the Chinese are keeping a very close eye, because they don't want NK to instigate a conflict that would involve them against the US. The border between the Koreas has remained the most dangerous place on earth for a very long time.

He has a big harem, evidently ...

They're celebrating the testing of the ballistic missiles, but I'm sure in the background of all these thousands of people there are flies and buzzards waiting for them to die, like you see in Somalia.

We should get Bob Geldof on it.

Here's some poor starving North Korean kids on a public beach, about to fight over a little sand crab for food :( ...

North Korea only launched the earth observation satellite and calls its launches part of a peaceful space programme. Since it did not pose any threat to the United States or its allies, we need to accept that even North Koreans have a legitimate need for commercial satellites. The UN is currently controlled by a South Korean diplomat, which was why it quickly passed a new resolution to condemn the satellite launch. Some say that these launches should be treated as ballistic missile tests more than anything else but these rockets rely on liquid fuel and sit on the pad for days before launch, nor does North Korea have a warhead capable of being used in such a ballistic missile.

But it will be possible such warhead at Northern Korea in 20 years. It threatens national safety of the US - it won't fall to South Korea because also North Korea as a result will suffer... but it is very dangerous to the US. If North Korea launches such missile in the US and the American military will bring down it, directly near Korea - then anyway there is a probability of invasion are Koreans with AK-47 on the territory of the US!

Oh were you looking for BO peep sounding off on N Korea? BO had a couple of sources speak out on it for him. Samantha Powers.....the inept and Incompetent UN Ambassador was one. In post 28, was her lil statement. Then the usual.....an unidentified source who wasn't suppose to speak on it as he was not cleared.

BO won't speak on it.....unless he can call the Camera's in front of him. He might wait to hear what others on the Security counsel have to say first. So that he is on the same page.

Maybe I missed this, can someone confirm:

Did they actually put a satellite in space? With all the talk about it being cover for a missile test, I don't think I've seen any country say they didn't put a satellite in space, which is the first thing I thought I would hear.

It appears that they did as most of the UN Security Council and the UN have sounded off about it. Kerry spoke up. So to did Powers the Ambassador to the UN.

Defiant North Korea Launches Rocket Weeks After Nuclear Test .....
Isolated nation claims success in putting satellite into space
North Korea says there will be more rocket launches to come.....

North Korea launched a long-range rocket Sunday, just weeks after conducting a fourth nuclear test in the latest setback for international efforts to pressure the Kim Jong Un regime to end its weapons program.

The isolated nation claimed it was successful in putting the “Kwangmyongsong” (shining star) satellite into space, North Korean anchorwoman Ri Chun Hui said on state television, adding that there would be more launches to come. The rocket was fired at around 9:30 a.m. Seoul time and disappeared off the radar after flying almost 800 kilometers south, a South Korean official said.

Hours after the launch, South Korea and the U.S. announced they would start talks on the deployment of the U.S.’s Thaad ballistic missile defense system on South Korean soil. The government in Seoul also said it would expand the use of propaganda broadcasts along the heavily fortified border with the North, Yonhap reported, citing the nation’s joint chiefs of staff. South Korea will also cut the number of workers at the inter-Korean industrial complex in the North Korean city of Gaeseong..

The rocket launch and the nuclear test underscore the limited impact that U.S. pressure and existing United Nations sanctions have had on curbing North Korea’s nuclear weapons development, which the North sees as its best defense against a possible U.S.-led invasion. The Obama administration’s push for tougher sanctions has also run into resistance from China, North Korea’s economic lifeline. Beijing rejects measures such as banning energy exports that could destabilize North Korea and trigger a flood of refugees across the countries’ shared border.

The launch drew immediate condemnation from the U.S., Japan and South Korea. Secretary of State John Kerry called the firing “a flagrant violation” of United Nations Security Council resolutions against the North testing ballistic missile technology, while South Korean President Park Geun Hye said the launch was an “unacceptable provocation” and called for additional sanctions to be leveled at Pyongyang. The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on the launch at 11 a.m. New York time, South Korea’s Foreign Ministry said in a text message......snip~

Ah, I thought they just moaned about the rocket launch itself. I figured NK would have just been saying they were launching a satellite, but not actually manage it. I'm surprised they pulled it off, and I would have thought we'd be interested in what that satellite was doing.

That would work better.....then lets see if they want to mouth off to China. You can count on them saying something about BO and Team putting in Missile Defense in South Korea.

North Korean Satellite Flew Over Super Bowl.....

According to the Associated Press, the recently launched North Korean satellite Kwangmyongsong, or "Shining Star," soared over the San Fransisco Bay area in close proximity to Super Bowl 50 on Sunday night.

"I have no idea when the end of the Super Bowl was, not a sports fan," he said. "But KMS-4 did pass over that part of California at 8:27 p.m. PST at an altitude of 480 kilometers. I calculate it was 35 miles west and 300 miles up as it passed overhead heading almost due north.".....snip~
