http://www.bbc.com/news/business-36763212 it seems that your little island is convinced of the superiority of the hardware since you can't even detect Russian subs with your own ...lol
Except that AEGIS radars have been specifically upgraded to deal with sea skmming missiles and the RAM was designed with sea skimming missiles in mind.
The AEGIS can't detect anything below the horizon so it wouldn't be able to detect a sea skimming ASM until it was 18 to 20 miles out. You have to have an E-2 D AWAC in the air and a LAMPS with ground search radar. A lot of websites out there covering this topic but a lot of scuttlebutt. Did come across defencyclopedia.com and does answer a lot of questions. Check it out and tell me what you think. A short excerpt:
We're talking about the Ministry of Defence here, which is the most inept and dysfunctional department of the entire British government administration. Literally everything they get involved in goes pear-shaped, and a couple of coastal observer planes would be quite enough. So we don't have a plane manufacturer - that's okay, you don't have an NHS. In fact I don't see why we need to know there are Russians subs in our waters - they'll only be on exercises and we'll do nothing about them anyway, so big effing deal!
