Nobody should have to pay anything for something that they had nothing to do with and happened so long ago. The whole thing is silly.
Slavery was legal in the United States after the Civil War. It was never a federal crime until it was abolished by constitutional amendment. And BTW the United States did not establish the practice of slavery here. She inherited it from the Europeans.
In reality.... If there had been no slavery in the British North American colonies, there'd be very few blacks here.
This thread made me think about a certain video so had to see if it was still up and it is.
Europe banned them they did not want Africans in Europe and the Northern states followed, they prefered indentured servants for the labor they required and did not want a large population of Africans in their states.
Somehow that enforce further the claim, for it is already put into international law that slavery is a crime against humanity but it's quite legal in the USA a long time ago. They brought those poor guys before from Africa and that makes it an international case. Yup those darn Europeans, who also focused on Industries while lacking the machineries and equipment to support it, resorting of finding and capturing natives in Africa to do the job for them similar with their horses.
We're not talking now was are talking then, any laws that outlaw slavery now did not apply then. Are you really not aware of the Constitutional protection against ex post facto? If there is anyone to be punished what about the Africans which sold the African which sold captured Africans into slavery? What about the Black Muslims which sold white Europeans into slavery? And everyone points fingers at the South when there was no great movement in the North to end Southern slavery, it was an important means of producing products which the North purchased at lower prices due to slavery. The North simply did not want black Africans in the north, they had their handful with European immigrants and particularly did not like my Irish ancestors many of whom came here as slaves.
Ex post facto laws retroactively change the rules of evidence in a criminal case, retroactively alter the definition of a crime, retroactively increase the punishment for a criminal act, or punish conduct that was legal when committed. They are prohibited by Article I, Section 10, Clause 1, of the U.S. Constitution. An ex post facto law is considered a hallmark of tyranny because it deprives people of a sense of what behavior will or will not be punished and allows for random punishment at the whim of those in power. http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Ex+Post+Facto+Laws
there is no argument. commit a crime get punished. its called karma and it eventually catches up with you otherwise the world would cease to exist if there wasnt that balance.
why are you trying to shift blame? can you for once in your life just admit slavery by whites was wrong and they havent been punished for it? its quite simple really. say it after me "whites was wrong and they havent been punished for it" lol
"Whites?" Who are these "Whites" you're speaking of? Are you saying that race isn't a social construct?
It was wrong through the eyes of today for whites AND blacks but it was LEGAL, you are attempting to view history through the prism of today. - - - Updated - - - Slavery was not a federal crime until after the 13th Amendment but even at that some indenture servitude remained into the 20th century but that was whites, where I get my reparations?
I didn't even bother to waste my time answering that post. It was too stupid to bother with. - - - Updated - - - The only thing silly around here is your posts. ROFL. Utterly absurd.
Don't forget 40 acres and a mule. I suppose in fairness since the mules died long ago, give blacks another mule to be decent about it.
Yes they were. It was called the Civil War. Hundreds of thousands killed, many more crippled for life, virtually the entire South burned down. Of course, your message is pure racism and FALSE as it wasn't "whites" at all, but only "slave owners." Blacks, Latinos and Native Americans owned black slaves. The majority of white people during slavery didn't own slaves and likely a majority of white people are descendants of immigrants who arrived after the end of slavery so their ancestors did not either. The majority of white people's ancestors never owned a slave and those who were slave owners were not only white people. Nor are all blacks the descendants of slaves, including President Obama himself. Actually, with reparations he should then be required to pay reparations to black people.
"QUESTION RE: POLL" Is this poll about all reparations (to Armenians, Palestinians, Germans, Pol Pot's victims, Jews etc) or are you specifically referring to paying reparations to African Americans for their enslavement in only the U.S.? Thanks
If there is anyone in the US alive today that was a slave they should get reparations. Other than that, no.
