Well, I notice that you voted "other." Are you going to say why? :)

Your position reflects that you have a strong belief that government money always comes from the pockets of another taxpayer, and therefore reparations are inherently about punishing people. Others might see it as about enabling people.

I voted other because I would be fine with it if we could afford it and I thought it would make a difference. I don't think either is currently true. The bulk of those getting the money would (*)(*)(*)(*) it away. I'd be more okay with more tangible reparations like taking government-held foreclosed property and giving it to poor blacks on condition that they cannot refinance or borrow against it for say 15 years and as long as they paid the taxes and kept it in good repair, after those 15 years it was theirs.

Gov money does come from the pockets of tacpayers. Always. How would reparations enable anything?

First the government takes your money to fund tbeir racist project and then they take your money again to fund anti-racist projects. Lulz. Just rid the government already. :woot:

If what you say were true, the money supply would never expand. The money supply expands greatly.

He is right. The government doesn't generate income. The money the government spends is reliant upon the taxpayers paying their taxes. Where do you think the money comes from? What do you mean by the money supply expands?

I'm conflicted having French, Hispanic and Native American blood. The French I say no, we've paid our Revolutionary bill with WW1 and WW2, the Hispanic, having descendants of the missions of California 17th century I say no, citizenship in the USA is reparations paid in full. Now, the American Indian part, I want some of that Casino money, NOW.

I'm not really sure how to respond to that, but thanks for your response anyways! :)

I don't think I've heard others talk much about reparations except for African American people and the "white guilt" folks for slavery.

I have a thought on this - how about to each slave descendent who feels he's entitled to reparations, we give a... medal in recognition of their ancestors suffering?

I was just having a little early morning fun. Basically Chris I'm not for reparations at all. I have a mind set that I hit the birth lottery being born in the good ol USA and those whose ancestors suffered here under slavery I hope they have the same mind set.

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not. I was going to say that it might be a nice thing to do, but some might actually find it kind of offensive.

It would be a nice gesture from the government, but the taxpayers should certainly not be liable for something that happened 100+ years ago.

The money supply expands because the federal government prints more.

For which taxpayers are responsible to put worth behind. How can they just print money anyhow? Isn't it supposed to be based on something tangible?

TBH, I don't really understand the basis of currency very well. :hmm: Not something I ever really thought too much about.

Why would you limit it to only black slaves? What about blacks who came here after slavery ended? And if it is about reparations for slavery how could you limit that according to economic means? What about a black who's previous generations were quite well off but now this particular person did nothing to improve themselves and is now in poverty?

Sadly they can print money from nowhere and sometimes they do and that's how we get inflation.

Um....what is "government held foreclosed property"? Government isn't underwriting these loans, they may guarantee them, but someone like me had to underwrite them. You seem pretty generous with my money. Or for that matter, the money of average depositors or investors. What about our rights? Do we give them up, not enjoy due process because you want to feel good about yourself?

If you're referring to tax liens, you still aren't accounting for the underwriter of the loan, meaning the person or org that had to write the check on behalf of the borrower at the time of the closing.

Why is it so hard for progressive folks to allow others to benefit from the value of their investments?

One question, what would it involve the BLACKS doing, would they have to sign some sort of agreement that they would never kvetch about slavery and its legacy ever again, or what?

Home run, polly. Fifty years ago black people were treated like crap in this country but all that changed. Its just that blacks don't want to admit it because then they would have to compete on a totally level playing field. Democrats made too many blacks dependent on welfare and after 40 years of it blacks are addicted to it and think they should be entitled to more of it. They will always fail as a race until they really stand on their own two feet, but there is no doubt in my mind that they can do that if they really want to and try. If I was a black man I would be insulted at the idea of reparations, but part of me would want to grab all the money I could and laugh at stupid Whitey all the way to the bank.

How about documented proof their ancestors were slaves and that their family has always been in poverty?

I think that we taxpayers should get a refund, or "reparations" for the trillions of dollars wasted on the "war on poverty.

Money supply expands, and no he isn't. The federal reserve, for instance, pays the government $80B a year in profits.
