I chose other. I believe that reparations should be paid only to those that rate it, and be paid by those that participated in it. So, I believe that anyone that was ever personally a slave should be paid reparations by those that held him or her as a slave. No one else.
IOW, if no one is alive that was a master or a slave, then there is no one alive to pay or get paid. Thus the issue is closed. Next question!.
Well, we do know that there are no living people who were slaves (or at least the kind of slaves we are talking about). I don't know, but I've heard something about the government breaking a promise that each black slave would receive something and they never did? I'm not sure how accurate that is, or if I'm remembering it wrong. Even so, I don't see how any of these things apply to today's times.
Reparations are only appropriate for living victims of something what happened in the recent past, such as the internment of Japanese Americans, who received $20,000 each in the Reagan era. Korean comfort women got more than $100,000 each from the Japanese government last year but Korean activists are still complaining that Japan has not apologised enough.
