You mean the law that was passed 30 years ago, as illegal immigration has only increased? Yeah, something tells me that there's a bit of an issue with the execution of that law. Not to mention that the law would only be a reactive solution, whereas a wall would be more proactive. The IRCA requires illegals to have already entered the country, whereas a wall would keep them from entering from the start.
Yes. The one that was promptly ignored immediately after Reagan signed it into law. The law provides for up to a $35,000 fine per occurrence to employers of illegal aliens and made reentering the US after deportation a felony. But it has been ignored by every administration since Reagan. A wall can be breached. Shutting off the magnet is the only real solution- and we do that by disincentivizing the behavior. A $35,000 fine is a pretty good disincentive. I'd enhance the law and add some jail time for the worst offenders. Of couse GW Bush famously once said "small business people aren't document checkers." The fix is in, clearly.
Thank you. Glad we could find some common ground. I should add to my post above that though we are a nation of immigrants, we are also a nation of laws. To me this means we can't simply ignore the law because we don't like it or because it is inconvenient to our cause(s). In the case of immigration, it is just as egregious when you have lawmakers who are clearly protecting their cronies in the business community (who are not only the chief cause of illegal immigration, but also thrive off the exploitation of the most vulnerable) as it is to enact sanctuary cities/states and impede the law enforcement process. That said, it should be FAR easier to become a citizen of this great nation. We need to change the law to create a much more direct and efficient path to citizenship. If you are free of a criminal record, don't have any communicable diseases, and are willing to work to build a better life for yourself and your family, there is no reason it should take 10-20 YEARS to earn citizenship. And I use that term 'earn' intentionally because something has no value unless it is earned.
Farmers use American workers [assuming they can find any]. Wages increase Prices rise Foreign produced goods gain advantage US farmers can't compete US becomes dependent on foreign farmers for food Could Trump put American farmers out of business? Already there are labor shortages. Labor costs make the US uncompetitive in labor-intensive production of goods. It presumably applies to farms as well.
Not if we stop giving away food stamps and benefits to those who don't try to look for work. Anyone with a Common Core education has already been reduced to the level of being a surrogate to begin with.
So your argument rests on the premise that unless we allow American business to continue their exploitation of poor unskilled laborors, we will end up paying too much for lettuce? Here's another way to look at it... There are approximately 12 million illegals in the U.S.. Of those, approximately 8 million are in the workforce. There are currently 8 million unemployed Americans.
That is pure rhetoric. Where is the evidence? Farm jobs often require skilled labor. You can't hire bums off the street and expect to make the harvest. Have you ever tried to compete with Mexican laborers? I have. They work their asses off!
No, my point is that he could put farmers out of business. That has nothing to do with the cost of foreign-grown foods. Farming is labor intensive. High labor costs will mean uncompetitive pricing.
That is pure ignorance speaking. Ask farmers how much skill matters. They tell quite a different story
I have picked strawberries, apples, grapes, and corn with no training of any kind. It ain't rocket surgery my friend.
quick summary: complaints, insults, and a lie from the OP. I some housework was involved, otherwise you accomplished nothing today.
I didn't notice the last shut down... Care to share the tragic stories about these million of regular, hard working American People? No need to share them all, just half is fine. ps. two more insults dished out, still working on playing nice with others?
We should all emulate the great orange hope and claim that not paying taxes is the smart thing to do.
Not so much ignored, but the fact that Presidents granted amnesty because illegals still kept flowing in because the law was ineffective. 1. Illegal aliens can easily, and frequently do lie to their employers about their immigration status 2. What would stop the employer from lying about whether or not they knew? 3. I honestly doubt anyone coming to the US illegally is going to be terribly worried about whether or not the crime they're committing is a felony And I see no reason to believe such a breach wouldn't be stopped quickly.
What are you like 5 years old? Goggle them if you are interested, they were kinda public. Actually made the news n stuff.
[QUOTE="Bow To The Robots, post: 1067391375, member: 19140 Do you have evidence that Mr. Trump has not paid his taxes? I don't think you are correct. .[/QUOTE] Oh boy, REALLY? What were you doing during the campaign? Sleeping? Hiding under a rock? Maybe you were on the moon? Heck, they even have TV's and internet in jail, so you weren't in there, unless you were in solitary for the last 20 some odd months. Why else is it that you didn't hear/read Trump BRAG that he hadn't paid any income taxes in 18 YEARS.
