liberals are at one end of the "lefty" political spectrum. there's the democratic left which starts wtih liberals and ends with libertarians and then there is the autocratic left which starts with socialists and ends with scumbag commies.
There are right leaning libertarians too. Also, I've been told that what we consider "liberals" today are not actually liberals but they are progressives. REAL liberals believe in smaller government. Progressives hijacked the term and made it into something it was not meant to be.
Well, I agree with free speech too, but there are lines that should be drawn, like stalking people and harassing them. No, the victim should not have to stop posting on the internet because some out of control jerks can't behave like human beings and control themselves.
I feel that is almost like saying, well if you go to this place and get robbed or raped, then it is your own fault for going there. It is always the perpetrator's fault, and I don't like the precedent it sets to tell a victim that she or he should feel deserving of such abuse because they frequent a certain place or a forum on the internet or whatever.
Of course there is a spectrum. Know where I draw the line? Where the free speech line is drawn. In fact, any 1st amendment issue. Thats the real dichotomy, in my view.
Im a conservative with libertarian leanings. Liberals/progressives/etc there are many labels because the left wings of each of these has given said groups a bad name. These lines are fluid, because people hide behind the labels. At its heart, there are statists and liberals-as in classical liberals.
Agreed-I draw the line at doing actual harm to another. As in violence, incitement to violence, etc. The US has awesome free speech rights, most of the world does not have them. We recognize that the few who can't handle it should not dictate to the rest. But that there are a (few) limits.
Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, like threatening another person's life or the lives of their family members or posting personal information about a person without that person's explicit permission, hacking into someone's computer to get information about them, and other things like that.
The internet is a dangerous place. BUT, everybody accepts that fact before they even log on. It is what it is.
Yeah, but look at it this way. If you have a job, need to go to the store, take kids to school, etc: You MUST "leave your house". Going on the internet is an ELECTIVE choice.
Well, that all depends. Some people have to post on social media fora for their jobs, and while bad language towards another person is acceptable behavior (why? I don't know), actions taken to stalk a person should not be. Stalking a person on the internet should be seen the same as stalking them in real life. Criminals use the internet to scam and con and even worse sometimes. It should not be a free for all.
I found out tonight (lazy, emails) that a current student killed himself last week. He struggled. He was a good kid. The season changes hit hard. This kid hits me real hard. Sick of this. Better than this.
Progressives? You mean these kinds of people? adjective 1. favoring or advocating progress, change, improvement, or reform, asopposed to wishing to maintain things as they are, especially inpolitical matters: a progressive mayor. 2. making progress toward better conditions; employing or advocatingmore enlightened or liberal ideas, new or experimental methods, etc.: a progressive community. 3. characterized by such progress, or by continuous improvement. Yes, its a terrible thing to be a "progressive", ain't it. Seems political ideologies have been reduced to false bumpersticker slurs readily accepted by unthinking, ignorant or simply hateful partisans. (that goes for all sides).
Except progressive now means: 1. race war 2. cheering the death of a president 3. rioting when they don't get their way 4. lying like crazy 5. Losing in every election possible
yes of course political ideology is all BS hyperbole to the simple minded and ignorant partisan. Using your criteria, it seems almost 2/3 of Americans are aniti-trump, and that aint no bullshyte.
I actually put the anti-Trump number around 3/4. He was elected with less that 27% (of the eligible electorate) and has LOST support. Only a hard-core of about 1/4 of America (the "Trump could burn my house down and I would still love him" crowd) is still in his corner.
There is plenty of right wing abuse of liberals on this forum, enough to be considered cyber threats...if you don't know that the FBI is monitoring this forum, there may be a van parked outside your house right now. And once they've got you on their radar, they track you by satellite. Google and many other corporations track you too....and if they can do it, just imagine how good the FBI is at it......but you can't delete the FBI tracking.... http://www.wired.co.uk/article/google-history-search-tracking-data-how-to-delete
Possibly. Raw Story allows commenters to express death threats to people who have severely offended the Far Left. Even The President has received many death threats. Moderate Left has many positive ideas and of course they oppose violence.
Generally on Conservative forums Liberals face prejudice, while on Liberal forums Conservative face a quick ban. During Cold War, Communists in USA faced discrimination, while anti-Communists in Communist nations faced prison.
Definitely -- Socialism works out very well in Scandinavia. Progressives are more like Communists then Socialists. Communism brought loss of freedom and tyranny.
