I'm trying to come up with a list of policy positions congressional Repubs, or the GOP generally, favor that are popular with a majority of Americans. I'm sure there must be some but I'm struggling to think of them.

    Any thoughts?

Unpaid-for tax cuts. Because everyone want to use the services provided by government, but nobody wants to pay for them.

people vote for republicans. I'm not sure if it's because they like their policies or dislike the policies of their opponents.

    I am definitely the latter.

How about finally doing something effective about illegal immigration? Or are most Americans actually in favor of illegal immigration?

How about taking measures to prevent radical Islamos from entering the country. Seemed popular enough when Obama was doing it.

Then there's the tax cuts. Nobody minds a tax cut - except those that don't pay any - but some people get upset because somebody else"s tax cut was bigger than theirs.

I could add more, but it doesn't really matter. A lot of people - maybe most - like or dislike policies based on their political bias. Who is doing it is much more important to them than what is being done.

Can you come up with any new policy at all that would be supported by a significant majority of Americans? :)

Apparently 95% of all Americans SUPPORT a bill for Universal Background Checks for Gun Purchases.

    And for anyone trying to call it "fake news" this is from PolitiFact;

As a home owner in a blue state...I'm kinda upset that I'll be getting a tax increase. I would suspect that millions of Republicans in similar circumstances feel the same.

I'm even more upset that by doing away with the ACA mandate that my kid's healthcare is going to go up by at least 10%.

    Those are pocket book issues.

On a non pocket book issue...I see it as really screwed up that the GOP is giving massive tax cuts to the rich and adding the cost of those tax cuts to the debt after screaming about the debt for 8 years. Had they had that attitude 8 years ago...that Recession would have been shorter and milder and we'd all likely have seen wage increases.

How about the least amount of govt possible and forcing politicians to be accountable for wasting all our money? We already know every dollar spent through govt becomes maybe a nickle after they're done with it. Actually the studies have already been done how wasteful and inefficient the people who work FOR us actually are.

My question has to do with policy positions pertaining to issues currently being debated. For example, like enhanced gun control measures, like immigration, like minimum wage, like protection of the environment. My cursory glance at polling data indicates positions held by the GOP are not popular with a majority of Americans so I'm trying to identify any that are.

Please provide the legislation that the GOP has either promoted and/or passed that provides better jobs with benefits and I would be especially interested in the better jobs they are trying to create in poverty stricken areas since the GOP wants to slash welfare for those Americans.

I know, I was just suggesting that the lack of answers to your question doesn’t necessarily indicate a specific failure by the Republicans but maybe something more general in politics and public expectations. :)

Not really what I was going for but..............That is certainly the perception. But is it true? For instance, comparing the administrative cost of government programs like Medicare relative to the cost of administrating large HMO's makes the government more efficient.
    http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-m...ing-administrative-costs-private-insurance-a/

I realize the government has become a target for conservatives over the years and thus there is a lot of hatred of it that has been generated. But some of the attacks are just not supported by the facts.

Everything Trump has done and the GOP supports is for more and better jobs. It's the Trump agenda just as the Obamama agenda was AGW

Except its not. For UBCs you'll need an amendment. And you've got 95% of the populace so yayyyyyyyyyy you can do it. Off you go.

Again, the thread is about specific policy positions. Not generalized things like "more jobs." For example, you may say part of the design of the tax bill was to create jobs. But the tax bill was very unpopular.

Thanks for answering your own question. Yes the tax bill was about creating jobs, especially the corporate tax portion of it. Everything Trump has done has been to create jobs, it's his agenda.
