Footnote do you guys remember the TV show on the Discovery channel by the name of sons of a guns that cover a family of gun smiths and the guns they product.

Love that show and it too bad for a number of reasons that the main star of that show turn out to be a damn pedophile including his own daughters and is going to spend the rest of his life in prison.

To be fair, who on the left is saying that they specifically want to ban the AR-15? Don't they want to ban ALL AR's?

Not a smith, but experienced with firearms and I know that there's no mechanical adjustment to speed up or slow down a semi-automatic's rate of fire. The ROF is wholly dependent on the speed in which the shooter pulls the trigger. a cheap, low powered cartridge may slow the cycle a fraction, but it would be imperceptible.

Feral hogs are very destructive to the environment in parts of the US. I am looking forward to this summer hunting them from a helicopter with my AR 15. Doesn't make me a criminal.

LOL it is so unlikely that for all practice purposes it surely can be rule out.

In our history we had been the invaders not the other way around.

No not a criminal but surely not a sportman of any type in my opinion.

Shooting animals from the air indeed as that seems very similar to the mass shootings of Buffalo herds from the comforts of trains a hundred years ago.

It does put unarmed citizens at risk of dying though because of the mentally idiotic. Which is unfortunate given that most American gun owners are likely responsible citizens. I think you'll all need to find a way to keep these weapons out of the hands of hostile individuals at least.

That is the issue with that Constitution. It was originally made for people of the 1700's. They gave no thought to social change or advances in technology.

By the way if you wish the thrill of flying fast near the ground without the need of spraying the country side with bullets I would suggest paying for a ride in a crop duster.

I remember doing so right after watching a crop duster flying under electric lines as I floated down under a parachute.

Lord those pilots are both good and crazy to do that job.

They really need a set in stone, legal definition for what an assault weapon is.

1; Any weapon capable of a full-auto or multi-burst firing rate, regardless of whether the weapon was built with that capability or if it comes from an attachment or accessory.
2; Any weapons which is built with, or which are capable of using a suppressor, grenade (or other explosive) launcher, flash hider, or other tactical attachments and accessories, which are usable only in a offensive combat situation, and have no legitimate use for hunting, home defense, or other civilian uses. .

Lol apparently my part involves conceding that you’re right and my viewpoint is completely invalid. Once I accept that we can start to have a real conversation? Fabulous.

Armalite Rifles? That’s what AR stands in AR-15.

They banned machine guns...that's a whole "class"

Here we go now with semantics. Those made before 1986 are heavily regulated...those after are banned. Distinction without a difference. Put all semi-autos in that same "class".

Well that tells you how much I know about guns, (I thought AR was Assualt Rifle) but who on the left wants a ban on just the 15? Don't they want a ban on all assault rifles?

We need to be honest in this country and quit playing games with the names of these weapons in favor of the actual issue. We have allowed our society to normalize murder in favor of our toys and even to the level of losing our children. When Lawn Darts killed several kids we removed them from the market for sale and no more kids got impaled. No one complained because they didn't play lawn darts or own a silver tipped luxury set.
Over a 10-year period, 6,700 people in the U.S. were treated in hospital for injuries from lawn darts. 75 per cent of those were children. Three of the children died.

    And Yet:

Therein lies the rub. They are just rifles so how to distinguish between one rifle and the next.

    The AR-15 is a .22-caliber centerfire rifle.

    Yup.

Let's avoid that (intentional) confusion. Ban any magazine fed semi-auto rifle...and possibly any magazine fed semi-auto weapon
