Can’t ban a whole class of firearms, possibly >50% of them. Been around for 100 years, what changed?

You said that before and you were wrong. Repeating it doesn't make you any more correct

Semi-auto firearms are the most prolific.

For 8 to 12 rounds, then you have to spend several seconds loading rounds one at a time into the tube. Time in which someone can take you down.

Explain why suppressors and flash hiders are only usable in an offensive combat situation.

One of my 27 guns is a 58 cal muzzle loader that's a replica of those used by the union in the civil war. Great fun to shoot! Those guys were expected to load and shoot accurately three times in one minute which was at the time considered a withering rate of fire. I tried that a few times and failed miserbly. They must have drilled quite a bit to get that proficient.

Actually the muskets used in the American revolution were designed as war guns--they weren't accurate enough for hunting--they were meant to be fired en masse. The kentucky rifles used by some militias were hunting guns.

They want to ban semi-auto. They just cant actually say so without dumping 90% of their support base.

There was a revolution--although not a armed one, but a voting one. The democrats had held the House since 1955. After the Assault Weapons ban was passed in 1994, the Republicans took over the House in 1995. The Republicans also took the Senate, albeit the dems had only controlled that for 8 years.

I've heard figures ranging from 8 to 15 million ARs in circulation.

Variety of reasons. Wild pig hunting has increased over recent years in the U.S. AR-15s are one of the weapons of choice for wild pig hunting. In addition, there are a variety of target shooting events involving AR-15s. Also, many self defense experts think that ARs are pretty close to ideal home defense weapons. With the right ammunition, they shoot through fewer walls than do pistols or shotguns. Because of shoulder stocks, they are easier to shoot accurately than a pistol, and it's easy to mount a flashlight/laser sight on an AR. When I get too old to handle a pistol for home defense, I'm going to buy an AR for that purpose, if they are still legal. Criminals have little use for ARs. Criminals use handguns, as they want concealed weapons. In 2016 (data includes the Orlando nightclub shooting), there were in the neighborhood of 300 murders using all rifles (not just AR type rifles). There were over 7,000 murders using handguns.

A country too gun-crazy to enact sensible laws and save lives. Actually, this appeal to how many guns are in circulation is simply an excuse not to act. Pass the laws and start collecting the damned things. Institute a buy-back so people won't feel too bad about it. Have gun clubs where people can still shoot their favorites on a range, but where the damned things are kept under tight control and can't be taken out to go do harm to school kids or movie theater goers or church attendees, or some other group of innocents. Quit waffling and just do something already.

Why are you warping the truth? There was a mass shooting in 2014 in Australia. The Hunt family murders, where he killed his wife, two kids and himself. At least in the U.S. we define a mass shooting as the murder of four or more with a gun.

But do you NEED an AR15 to shoot a feral pig?

You could do it with a bow and arrow!!

We have feral pigs too. Actually we have lots of the bastards and we do not use rapid fire weapons we use a technique called Aiming the weapon you are using properly

FL law says that you can only use 5 round magazines. However, an AR works just fine with 5 round magazines.

Yes, it does not help when these guys don't know what they are talking about. But other faux liberals understand the nonsense.

An assault rifle is anything they believe it to be. With that said, I would never own one and I have owned guns all of my life. I think Hollywood created this infactuation with these guns, with films like Rambo. They look bad ass and manly, appealing to the people loaded down with testosterone IMO. I love fine hunting rifles, but got my fill of an M16 long ago when I had to use it in war. It was the last kind of rifle I wanted once I came back home, and do not even like a rifle which tries to copy the looks of the m16 or other such arms.

This love of these kind of rifles happened in my life time. I think ending the draft had something to do with it. If you never carried a gun that looked like these, in bad times, as all war is, you might want to play soldier and get yourself one. The only thing that might cure it are injections of estrogen. lol

In the U.S, pig shooters do so as extermination--the invasive wild pigs are destroying the habitat of native creatures. It's not uncommon for pig shooters to shoot 5 or 6 pigs at a time. An AR has the handling characteristics that make it ideal for doing that.

The U.S. has over twelve times the population that Australia has. You're still not doing great, despite the gun ban.

According to mother jones, about 2/3 of mass shootings between 1982 and 2009 used handguns. only about 1/4 used rifles. The point is that ARs aren't the cause or even the most effective mass shooting weapons. The VT shooter had almost twice the body count that the Parkland shooter did, despite only using handguns.

It's not uncommon. For the most part they use high-powered handguns, like .44 magnums, and some states even have special handgun hunting seasons. It's easier than bow hunting, but harder than rifle hunting.

What complete and utter bullshit. So do you mean that I've been a time bomb for 36 years? I bought my first gun then. I haven't lived permanently in a house without a gun my whole life. (have lived temporarily, but only on vacation).

Simple: Turn in your AR-15 and be paid $3,000.00 cash. Any one found owning an AR-15 after (reasonable date) will be guilty of a felony and will spend one year in prison. Carry on

Wow, just wow. Living in the South, I know a lot of people who own handguns. Nobody that I know with a handgun bought it with the intent of anything but defending their homes or shooting targets. Same with the people I know who own ARs. I don't own one, but if I get back into hunting or get too old and feeble to accurately fire a pistol, it will be my first choice.
