The history of bluster versus reality does not help sell much vodka outside Red Square.

... I think his demands on the US were that Trump was elected, isn't it? Who do you think Putin would favour in a Canadian election? Would it be the same candidates as the other pressure groups are pushing on?

And most importantly - why would they do it? So that Canada feels the pressure and remove some of its military bases abroad?

No. Aggression of the USA, England, Germany, France, etc. against Russia became the reason that Russia invests in the weapon.

It's not the end of anything. There are.. Degrees of acceptable engagement that regardless of political rhetoric will be adhered here too by responsible actors. Putin and Russia are very much in that category. NK? Not at all.

Follow me? No responsible actor is going to use a nuclear weapon against another nuclear power. Ever. It would escalate. The point to war is to win not mutual self destruction

The payloads themselves are fine... What you guy must develop, as you say, are vectors for these warheads or alternate means of interception. Money invested in defensive measure are IMO better spend money.

And, eerrr... I don't want to make your nights harder on the sleep, but even interception of conventional missiles is tricky business, with astoundingly low success rates.

This is stupid on so many levels. "Putin says"... seriously? Well Reagan lied and we secretly deployed his "Star Wars" particle beam satellites in the '80's. Russian has the "ultimate weapon"? Claimed that since 1950. Deployed them all across Eastern EU too. Seen that map lately? The "ultimate weapon" is unachievable, the best either "side" can do is deter aggression. Propaganda, if in fact Putin is lying, is the cheapest means of deterrence. Remember Vlad, we have Reagans death ray pointed right at ya! :roflol:

USA, England, Germany, France, etc - basically, the rest of the world.

Do you think there is something wrong with the rest of the world or with Russia?

Why is anybody worried about this? The "Russians" put Trump in office, ergo they are friends of his.

Oh. I wasn't thinking about actual nuclear weapons use: Just mount a typical Harpoon payload onto one of these hypersonic suckers and you've got a fleet-annihilating weapon. More power to the submarine.

That has not been my experience. Russian ************ is a sign of confidence and is merely a negotiating point.

NATO is not the rest of the world. NATO is 1/8 of the humanity.

Those sanctions could help cool his jets. You know...the sanctions that Trump refuses to implement.

But I expect Trump is pretty excited that the man who helped him get elected now has some new shiny toys. Fits well with Trump's agenda on Russia...which is to do nothing.

I guess Trump's call for a Kim-like military parade will return now. "Look! My toys are bigger than yours!"

Hoho yeah that would definitely work. And it would be acceptable.

I don't know I worry about my governments focus on the development of limited yield nukes. I worry that in my opinion the only reason to develop such a thing would be so using a nuke could be rationalized.

    That would be very bad.

And it annoys me because it's transparent

It's furthermore surprising when warships in our age are quite soft as target goes - no armor, just structural strength and fancy damage control measures.

Low-yield nukes would be useful once nuclear war is officially declared.

Easy....every sq mi of RF territory is targeted for blanket nuclear strikes, nothing survives, your bunkers that are dug into supposed permafrost in Nova Zemlya and elsewhere in Siberia are basically useless:).
