Classic projection. You have your experience, and I have mine. And they differ greatly, young people today just don't think that way anymore, and I see it and hear it. They just don't give a flying flack about who is what. Lots are LGBT and out of the closet, it is far different than it was even 20 years ago.
"Lots of LGBT"? Maybe in NY or SF or Miami. Not in the nation as a whole. And much less in the military. The perception is different than it was 20 years ago, and the game is different. If you walked up to me or anyone I know and asked if I care if a person was LGBT, I'd say I didn't give a flying flack about who is what as long as they did their job - but that's BS and I know it and everyone else knows it, and as soon as you left we would roll our eyes at the waste of time of having to deal with such stupid questions.
You must live in Russia where there are “no gay people”, in the US conservative self-identification brings the number to around 16 million people that are homosexual. It is delusional to believe you gave never run into one. As for all people just pretending to accept gay people, every voluntary poll including double blind studies disagree with you - but it could just be some vast conspiracy, I guess that makes more sense...
My long time battle buddy of 6 years is gay. Not a single person in our platoon give a **** that he's gay. He's moved on to the 75th and last time we talked, he was going Warrant. When going outside the wire, someone's sexuality is the last thing anyone is thinking about. You got my support, Soldier.
Agreed. Since we're dealing with sexual orientation, which is psychological, the psychological definition may be helpful: https://www.bestcounselingdegrees.net/faq/what-is-abnormal-psychology/
That’s honestly what I figured most people’s experiences would be theses days, on both sides of it. Proud of your friend, sounds like he’s doing well for himself. I appreciate the support, and know I’d have your back if you ever needed it.
Avoiding trouble is "poor advice". What do you call "good" advice -- jump right into the middle of them and start shooting ?? When you are outnumbered that means you are also out-gunned. Stay away from trouble -- Rule # 1.
There are MANY gays in the military. Can anyone name any time this has caused any problem? Certainly those who oppose gays in the military can give real examples of problems caused, not just make up theoretical reasons.
And you the same any time you need it. Soldiers are professionals. Someone's sexual orientation is the last thing we should ever worry about. Loading a magazine correctly is something to worry about!
I think we're moving towards common ground here. While I would certainly agree with the definition posted, it is certainly a contextual one and notes as such. Some here are working more along the line of the definition you posted, but others, like the one I noted about, are speaking more statistically. I think my point here is that not everyone uses "abnormal" in the negative context.
Uh, no, I believe you feel that way, and that is fine, Howsoever, when People are talking against Gays, And equate S.S.M. with marrying a dog or other Abominable horrors, like Pederrasty, then use the word Abnormal, there is simply no way to put a good face on it.
Agreed. Obviously some are using the scientific definition and claiming to do so but it's clear they are doing it with a wink....or maybe they're just abbie normal.
Those that do so are just engaging in "Whataboutism". It's a form of derailing. Example: A Nazi is condemned for hating Jews and jokes about "finishing the job". When called in it he says "What about the American genocide of the Indians?" as if that justifies genocide of Jews. We see a lot of it when political partisans are trying to justify something their side did or didn't do.
Very well put, Archie Bunkerisms, note that Archie was a fabricated Cartoon type Conservative that Liberals used to Slut Shame Republicans on all fronts, like President Trump haters, He is still President, even when the Economy improves, it will count for little.
Agreed. I've made my feelings of Trump clear on this forum but he should certainly get credit for the recent events in Korea. Not sole credit, but certainly a large chunk of it. On other threads the partisans are fighting over whether or not he gets all the credit or none. There is no middle ground with them. Back on gays, the difference between SSM and marrying a horse or a child is that adults can consent, animals and children cannot. Some people refuse to see that "middle ground".
Usually it's the opponents, trying for the slippery slope argument. Short of actually having that attraction, and not working against it, I can't think of any proponents of SSM arguing that adults should be allowed to marry animals or children.
That was Ridiculous, I did not shoot, nobody had guns, it is exactly what I did not do, I did not seek trouble, I called for help. I was simply on my usual way home, and those guy were always on that corner, and as usual, I hsd the opposite side of the street, so in My case, your advice was asinine.
As an analogy, My dog was unique, one time, at Petco, they had a free obedience class, and this little yappy dog did his thing, yap yap yap, and the My dog joined in, lady giving the class spritzed the little yapper, and my dog saw that and shut up and lay down.. He learned from another's lesson. Many LGBT are still in the closet out of fear of being treated differently, they enjoy their Heterosexual freinds and don't really want their lives to change all that much. They even join in if someone says something derogatory against LGBT, some people still have pretty fixed views about LGBT, classic stereotypical roles, and in reality, the hard core haters are not changing. Happily, the new generation of young people are different, mostly Heterosexual and well grounded, they are not converting to LGBT, they just do not care who is, today everything is has changed as far as tolerance, and that is a good thing as bigotry wanes and racism decreases.
Always always always take the long way home to avoid a hostile crowd. Should have learned this in K thru 12.
That is just silly, I was a Police Officer at the time, and there was no reason for taking a longer way home. That area was not a high crime area anyway. Those idiots never caused trouble afterwards. Of course you knowing nothing about the situation, you will give me unwanted advice. No thanks.
