The place is the size of New Jersey. People can go else ware. The Jews just want to be left alone, and everybody wants their land.

Everybody wants their lifestyle, but the land cannot support the amount of refugees that want in.

Actually, the original Israel was conquered by the Babylonians in about 586 BC, causing the beginning of the diaspora, or spreading of the Jews across the surface of the known Earth. The Muslim invasion from Arabia into Palestine occurred in the 600s AD, when Israel didn't exist. The invading Muslims forced everyone they conquered (except Jews) to convert to Islam or die. Most chose conversion. Jews were exempted because Mohammed had taught Muslims to accept Jews as legitimate monotheists. This section of the Middle East has always been a crossroads of trade and ethnic mixing. It has never been a place of peace.

    I guess we will disagree.

I wonder what is the limit of the 'right to protect' the homeland, the everlasting argument? Im sensing, everything coming from israel is rightly justified for that cause

Hanukkah celebrates the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem in the 2nd Century BCE(BC) following the Maccabean Revolt and a miracle that took place at that time.

The land changed hands many times, the Jews (Hebrews) owned it 17 times, more than anyone.

This three minute video provides a quick summary of Middle Eastern history, starting with the cavemen, and extending into the future.

The European concept of nation/states was a bad idea since it created massive hardships by having people move from their ancestral areas elsewhere, but by the same token everyone should have the right to maintain their ethnic and religious identity and not have to succumb to another's dominance.

I believe political dominance is part of the Islamic faith, or at least part of the Sunni faith where everyone other than a Sunni becomes a Dhimmi with lesser rights. So now Israel is doing the same thing.

Except Israel is the size of New Jersey, The Sunni faith is hundreds of times larger.

Hmmm, wonder why everyone is bitching at Israel and not Sunni Islam.
BTW, Shia is the same, so we can make it even larger.

The State of Israel still has full equal rights for non-Jews and Arabs.

this new law doesn't change that.

to codify that Israel is the nation-state of the Jewish people.

just like how Egypt and Syria are Arab Republics.

and just like how Iran, Pakistan, Mauritania and Afghanistan are Islamic republics.

I do not agree with you. Jewish immigrants from Russia are much more tolerant to a secular society based on equal rights for all. This I have learned from Russian Jews who came to Canada once they learned they were second class citizens in Israel and no desire to see their children forced into the IDF to support the ultra religious nut bars.

Israel has existed since 1948 without the need to make such a proclamation--and many of those earlier years gave the world a healthier, more positive, more democratic Israel than exists now. What has happened in Israel to make this law necessary now?

I read somewhere several years ago that the vast majority of Russian Jew immigrants voted for Netanyahu and helped him become Prime Minister. I've not kept up with developments in Israel since Netanyahu's ascension, so I can't say how Russian Jews feel now. But, I hope you are right and there is a shift in support. Israel needs to move beyond Netanyahu just as we need to move beyond Trump. :)

To me, it seems that the real "meat" of the law is shown in parts 1C, 3 and 7.

1C. The right to exercise national self-determination in the State of Israel is unique to the Jewish people.

3 . The capital of the state

Jerusalem, complete and united, is the capital of Israel.

    7. Jewish settlement

    A. The state views the development of Jewish settlement as a national value and will act to encourage and promote its establishment and consolidation.

#3, the capital of the state--Jerusalem, has been a goal of both Israel & Palestine since 1948. Israel was compassionate enough not to act on this goal out of defference to Palestinian sensitivities until now. Suddenly, Palestinian feeling no longer count. Just Jewish feelings. Not a good move.

#7, Jewish settlement. These are settlements on occupied lands that belong to Palestinians. Palestinian families are often forcibly moved away, their homes frequently demolished by Jewish settlers, then the land comfiscated, often without compensation, and settled on by Jewish immigrants. This is legalized theft, and in no way recognizes or complies with the human rights Israel is claiming still exists for non-Jews there. This is a particularly bad move on the part of Israel, for it guarantees future wars with Palestinians and other Arabs, who feel both their rights and their homes have been taken from them. Stupid!

the Palestinians refuse to recognize ANY Jewish connection to Jerusalem.

they say the ancient temples never existed there.

nobody has a problem with Egypt and Syria being "Arab States" or Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan being "Islamic Republics".

    i smell hypocrisy.

Yep, and 1C gives to Jews exclusively the right to self-determination. This effectively mutes any other voice while Israel goes about 3 and 7.

Jerusalem is supposed to have been an international city, as it is central to all Abrahamic faiths, but this law makes that void.

The Muslims have the Dome of the rock, try walking there dressed as a Jew.

Your civil rights might be violated.
