    I agree, we should take away the choice to be lazy and living "easily" on meager means and make it tough to be poor.

    They make this choice because they are lazy. And they've learned to game the system. And the system is f'ed up. We are incentivising lazy women to become broodmares.

    1. graduate high school. 2. get a job. 3. don't have kinds until you are married. If you do those 3 things you will not stay in poverty 99.8% of the time.

    Marriage makes it more difficult to just walk away during a rough patch and many long term happy marriages would have ended very early in the relationship if one or both could have just said cya.

    Exactly. Marriage makes it much more complicated to just get pissed off and pack your bags. Everything is owned equally in marriage and divorce becomes a last resort

    I think fathers are very important in a child's life. And many fathers in a marriage are absent from the child's life emotionally. That piece of paper does not make you a good father

    In the real world pieces of paper matter a great deal. Actually sexual exclusivity (before and after marriage) is far and away the most important thing.

    As I said early in marriage there is often rough patches and if one or both can just pack their bags and go they probably would. Making it tough to dissolve a relationship with the institution of marriage gets many couples through these rough patches and they go on to be happily married for life.

    There are many people who did just that and some are homeless today...

    Losing jobs has nothing to do with being married and having kids...
