I blame house flippers for the lack of affordable housing. They buy up all the cheap housing, slap on a new coat of paint, plant a flower garden and then sell it for lots of money. (To the next flipper who does the same thing.) :)

You are using an IDIOTIC misunderstanding, to catapult propaganda. NOONE gets freebies. You WORK, to get anything, with indignity, rigor, paperwork and such, to prove you are pathetic enough.

Because someone has to pay for it somehow, sometime. The hardworking Americans end up paying for it. Do you think these things grow trees?

You'll be able to blame the Chinese before long. They are buying middle-class properties and moving here. Apartments where I live are becoming unfordable for most people because Chinese are renting and buying up properties we I live. The law of supply and demand works for real estate too.

So I should allow the state to take taxes from me and I shouldn't question how the money is spent.

I can see some people getting some help but I have no understanding at all to why people on welfare should be living in any luxury apartments at all. it has to have some value to work!
what happens if we all get lazy because we get everything at the same standard as those who live off other? it should pay off to work and get educated!

What an incentive to succeed "You need to work extra hard so your money can be given to those who won't"
If you got all the money in the world together and divided it up equally so every person was given the same amount, within just a few years a small minority would have most of the money.

That which doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

Learning you must find a way to be free from dependence on others will ensure you can always find a way to survive.

It's a basic principle in the evolution of the human species that many try to eliminate in order to exploit them.

90% of the Democratic Party consists of public union members and burger flippers. The other 10% is Hollywood.

I bet 90% of the landlords will be understanding of the issue and will accept potential delayed pay.
Evicting someone takes time and finding another tenant is not that easy. I work with one real estate investor who is a landlord and he prefers his tenants to sit put no matter what as long as they pay, and would understand government delays.
But, this IS a perfect opportunity to weed out bad apples.

You know what's cruel Doug? It's the mothers and fathers who drag their children a 1000 miles across South America and watch some of them become sick and watch some die. It's the men in the caravan that exploit the children and rape some of the woman in the caravan. It's the brave men that shove the children and woman to the front of the line so that they catch the brunt of any tear gas that the border agents might fire. It's the cartels that use the caravan to smuggle woman and children into the United States for labor and sex. It's the drug smugglers that supply drugs that kill thousands of people in the U.S. every year. It's watching the families in the U.S suffer who have lost spouses, children, friends and relatives killed by illegals. It's the cruelty of a political party that refuses to fund border security just because they hate a President that won the last election and keep the government shut down . ( Same politicians who have voted in the past for border funding many times)

It is true that some Government employees are hurting but it is not a new thing to America. I hardly know a family, that sometime in the past, hasn't had a member be unemployed for a while. This is a time that many family, neighbors, and others step up and offer food and assistance to those that need it around them. Most government workers make $50,000 plus a year. Hopefully they a rainy day fund to carry them over for awhile. We are not in a soup kitchen position yet. We are not in a situation where you have Federal employees living on the streets like you do in New York, California, Washington State and Oregon. ( Now there are cruel situation's) If you want to help then call your Congressmen and tell them to help the President get the resources he needs to secure are border against the hoards of those who wish to illegally cross at our border)

Back in the 1980's, I applied to live in an apartment complex that accepted government subsidies for poor people. The cutoff was $40,000 per year. My income was just slightly above that, so I couldn't live there. I'm guessing $40,000 was considered poor then and I'm guessing that number has been adjusted up in the 30+ years since then.

Democrats will hate you for seeking fair treatment.
I as the board expert on eviction shall explain to the forum here eviction laws.

First a qualifier. I am highly trained in CA law.

If other states differ I will require any responder to my post to state the law in their own state.

First unless they refused to past due rent, they have a period of time prior to the landlord starting legal procedures. Assume the Landlord is not told of their problem and is a jerk and wants to evict, the tenant has a right to a 30 day notice to pay rent or face eviction.

CA does require a court be involved. While a landlord can manage to get a court date within 30 days in the future in many cases, it is not always that fast. And courts very often side with the tenant.

After the 30 day notice passes, a court date is applied for. A hearing is set and both parties can show up.

Then there is a period of time allowed for the court ruling to be served against the non paying tenant.

A sheriff normally shows up and with police present will make sure the tenant clears the premises so the landlord can clean the property up to make it habitable for others. Tenants often try to destroy the home.
