Because those who would further restrict my right to keep and bear arms use incidents like this - and the blood of the innocent people involved - as a means to that end. THEY make it about politics; I respond.
I don't know if anyone told you but this is a political forum where we discuss politics. If you don't want to discuss politics why in the hell are you on a site called political forum?
Yes we do but you also have mass killings from knives or by truck. Our knife killings per 100,000 is roughly the same as yours but your gun killings are significantly greater than ours.
You don't see it as relevant? Oh, let's see: 1982-present, on average, yearly deaths in mass shootings: USA: 23.74 AUS: 3.34 (14.07%) 1982-28 April 1996 on average, yearly deaths in mass shootings: AUS : 6.71 29 April 1996 - present on average, yearly deaths in mass shootings: AUS : 1.17 So there was a 83% drop in yearly deaths in mass shootings after Australia changed their gun laws. These stats come with thanks to TOG 6 for providing the evidence
No it's not relevant because Australia isn't the United States. I'm sure in Australia there's a lot of things that are different. It is tiny compared to the United States. It's like comparing the culture of some rural farming community to London or New York.
Which bit did you not understand? Our knife murder rate is the same as yours, our gun murder rate is significantly lower than yours. Hence you have significantly higher rate of deaths by mass murders and there is no evidence that mass murderers have switched to using knives because they did not have access to guns. Our gun laws significantly reduced the overall mass murder rate as did Australia'
I was not comparing Australia with US! Did you not understand the significance of 28th April 1996? Australia did not change in size or population on 28th April 1996!
I didn't miss anything. They wouldn't need to if we banned guns in the United States. They would just use a gun. A ban is in a magical spell that makes guns disappear upon bending firms was the amount of firearms equal or greater than the amount of people? Did you have a constitutional amendment that said that you had the right to keep a firearm? Did you have people that just voluntarily gave up their firearms? Do your countries are different than the US. How is this reality escaping you? Do you not understand that different people a different geographical regions have a different cultures?
I understand why you think it's significant. And I understand why the price of tea in China insignificant to someone who owns a Chinese tea farm. I don't know why it significant to the discussion. I understand that you think it's significant I don't understand why it's significance to the greater discussion if you would like to make that point feel free.
Geez... "Aussie gun laws are not the reason Oz doesn't have as many mass shootings as we do." Expand further...
An article I read on this included this :"On Wednesday, Northern Territory Police Commissioner Reece Kershaw told reporters that the suspect had used a 12-gauge pump action shotgun, a banned firearm that he said might have been stolen as far back as 1997" Is that true? Pump shotguns are banned in Australia? If so then yes they have restrictive gun laws...
I thought it was obvious. Aussie gun laws do not prevent Aussies from obtaining firearms that can be effectively used in mass shootings - that is, Australians have legal access to such weapons. Since Aussies have access to these guns, there must be another reason they don't have as many mass shootings.
I agree that Australia has restrictive gun laws but they don't have strict gun laws/ It is not hard to get a gun in Australia
I thought you indicated you had a guess as to that reason.... nevermind... ANY firearm can effectively be used in a mass shooting.... all you can do is try and make em reload or pull the trigger multiple times (until people finally tire of that bullshit).... 4 dead is a horrible tragedy, but it really doesn't touch the weapon deaths we have in the US...
Not at all... I rarely box myself in by saying any single thing is "the reason" for anything, but I'm sure they help keep their incidents and body counts down....
