In other words, a resolution just banning antisemitism (which was the only issue that brought the resolution idea about) would NOT have passed a Democratic House. I get it. Eventually, even you'll get it.
All Jewish representatives - even including the one Republican - voted for the condemnation of hateful expressions of intolerance. You can tell the 70% of Jewish Americans who are Democrats why they should not be. I won't speculate as to whether you'll change their political preference.
You can stamp your feet and rail at Jewish Americans, Arab Americans, Black Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, female Americans, and younger, better-educated Americans that they should all stampede to the Party of Trumpery. Good luck with that.
You really are up past your bedtime. That makes even less sense than your last comment. I can only suppose that in your delirium, you are responding to some imaginary thing you think I've said, rather than anything I've actually said. Surprisingly common among you types.
Even if they needed that to overcome such a wall as is now under construction, it doesn't matter what they have now, but what they can get their hands on after they take possession of CA. If you think America can credibly claim anything resembling competence in this respect, you're not paying attention to what's going on at the Mexican border.
Your first problem is to ask whether the federal govt has any duty to ensure that secession as an option is well defined, orderly and representative of anyone's will of legal merit, let alone a majority. Does the federal govt recognize a bill passed by the state legislature and signed by the governor? Does the federal govt recognize the result if there is a challenge to the parliamentary procedure under which that bill was passed? Does the federal government recognize only a plebesite election with results certified by a state elected official? Does the federal government have a duty to certify the results as well to ensure against tampering? If there are questions regarding the election, do anti-secessionists and pro-secessionists have federal court redress? Can the anti-secessionists sue in federal courts over improprieties? Does SCOTUS have final jurisdiction or no jurisdiction? What is part of a state wants to secede but another part clearly does not? If southern California wants independence, and Northern California wants to remain in the union, Does the state legislature decide whether to recognize this disparity or does Washington? Is our Federal govt supposed to stand by while thousands of its citizens get their rights as Americans revoked against their will?
Of course, the reality is that there is no way of knowing how imaginary resolutions might have fared. The condemnation of discrimination against groups that have been targeted included anti-semites.
We do know since otherwise that would have been what the resolution was about. It was instigated by Omar's and Tailb's perceived anti-Semitic statements, not any other issues or events.
You can pretend to know what a non-existent resolution was about if that is what you need to do. The reality that all Jews in the Senate are Democrats, as are all but two in the House, is of far more substance than partisan attacks alleging anti-semitism in the Democratic Party. There are 36 Jewish Democrats in the House and Senate. The two Jewish members of the House are the only non-Christian Republicans in the Congress.
Really, a declaration of unconditional surrender would've been more than adequate. This is overkill by many orders of magnitude.
It wasn't that long ago. I know what happened, why, and so do you. But please continue with the blindness.
The doom-and-gloom crowd is overreacting. And succession won't prevent a civil war. Secession caused the last civil war. Personally, I support the states upholding their oaths.
Right wingers accusing the party that has 70% support among Jews and that elects 36 Jews to Congress of antisemitism while the other party elects 2 is quite amusing.
You are probably unaware of this but the Democratic Party has changed greatly in the past decade. I guess we'll find out the next time (and there will be a next time) Tlaib or Omar make an anti Jewish comment.
You are probably unaware of this, but 2 freshman representatives don’t speak for an entire political party. What were the “anti Jewish” comments?
There were ample news articles and threads on this forum about them. If you hadn't heard of them you may want to educate yourself on the topics being discussing.
I mostly agree with you Mike....WHOOPEE I think people get all caught up in what and who they dislike... but never really think through the devil the don’t know In my opinion, BREXIT is a classic example of this dynamic.... and they have not even gotten to the point of trying to make it work. None of the promised benefits of brexit seem to be on the horizon. I would see post secession nations as encountering similar issues as a post brexit UK. It seems to me to be inevitable that the post brexit uk... a uk by itself... will be a less influential, less important, less powerful, and likely less successful nation than Britain as a leading nation in the EU.... and let’s admit that what ever the shortcomings of the EU, the nations of the EU are a formidable international power in a way that no non EU is. A divide USA likewise would present two less powerful nations. And in case there was conflict between these two nations, that would only further sap the power of both separate nations Just a day ago, i was thinking about pending decisions by the conservative supreme court. I disagree with some directions they are going.... but ok, i can live with it.
Oh FFS! You'll get your Democratic president, and maybe a Democratic Congress too, in time. The pendulum swings. It always has. You'll feel better then. So ... Calm down. Chill out. Have a beer. Count your blessings. Sheesh! Seth
Just as here in the US, there is a working class revolt against the establishment in the UK which lead to the Brexit vote. There were a lot of nit picky things people hated about administrative fiats from Brussels, like getting rid of selling pints in pubs, but the real issue was the open borders for labor. The UK was flooded with workers from the east, "polish plumbers," who flooded the working class labor market. It makes sense since the former Soviet bloc countries have extremely low national average income (Poland's wage rates are similar to Mexico's) and suddenly there is no limit to the number of people who can legally swoop in to high wage areas. It would be as if everyone in Mexico could legally work and live in the US. They would depopulate that country to come here and earn wages many times what's available at home. As long as the establishments in western countries continue to try to kick the teeth in of the working class, you'll get more, not less of this.
