There was no collusion, no conspiracy, the Russians worked both ends, get over it.

 

I can’t get my head around Republicans pretending this didn’t happen. Now with Trump telling us it’s OK to take advice and information from foreign powers at election time they’re pretending it is. America is a riddle living inside a conundrum.

 

And what is the best way to do that?

Drive a wedge between the parties and more important the people identifying with those parties. I didn’t see a lot of “Trump is not my president” but I saw a LOT of accusations

I don’t know about the usual thrashiness with the “feminine blue” vulgarity.

But the current scheme of Air Force One is a variation on the scheme that was designed for the Kennedy’s by famed industrial designer Raymond Lowey.

FDR was the first US President to ever fly in a plane. He flew commercially from New York to Chicago in 1932 to accept the Democratic nomination at the convention in Chicago. This was another first, as previously, candidates never appeared at conventions and acceptance speeches were read.

During the war, FDR travelled both by Pan American Clipper (mustered into the military) and also in a converted B-24. Neither had graphics of any sort.

After the war, Harry Truman flew in a DC-6 called the Independence, which had really cool eagle graphics on the nose and front cockpit (which somewhat resembled the United Airlines paint scheme of the time).

Eisenhower graduated to a Super Connie, which he named Columbine.

It was the Kennedys that adopted the Air Force One name. Actually, that name had been the official designation of the Presidential plane from 1947. Kennedy just did away with the nickname, and called it by its official name.

It was a potent symbol of American power.

The Boeing 707 represented a quantum leap in air transportation. No one had anything remotely like it in size, and few could match its speed.

Kennedy used it to represent American military, technological and industrial might. At the same time, he sought to give it an air of sophistication and civilization. A velvet glove for the iron fist.

Every President since has kept the design.

Lowey’s work included many famous designs, including the skyscraper shaped Sears Coldspot refrigerator, various Studebakers, including the first envelope bodied “coming or going” Studebaker in 1947 (‘first by far, with a post war car!), Richardson yachts, the Coke bottle, the package for Lucy Strike Cigarettes, the streamlined locomotive for the Pennsylvania RR’s Broadway Limited, and, later the GG-1 electric locomotives and the Studebaker Avanti.

The exterior of the Trump design seems OK, but one has to fear the inside, given Trump’s tendency toward whorehouse baroque.

I’m pretty sure that this was Trump’s idea of the big takeaway from the Stephanopolous interview.

His revealing of his personalized paint scheme for Air Force One (remember when he was going to save all that money by showing us what a great deal maker he is by screwing up the procurement process mid stream?).

Of course, this sort of gimmickry is tailor made for the Fox (Trump TV) audience. Always the sizzle, McConnell and Mnuchin deal out the steaks out of public view).

But that’s not how it turned out, thanks, once again, to Trump’s stupidity and big mouth.

Sarah Sanders obviously got thrown under the bus for this fiasco.

And the White House is clearly nervous that something else is going to come out of the full Stepanopolous interview, which they have to wait all weekend to see (it comes on Sunday night).

And since Trump has absolutely no moral compass, sense of duty, or loyalty, he has no idea what part of what he blabbed will wind up in the headlines on Monday morning.

Because Trump made a contract with Boeing to build 2 new Air Force One jets to replace the ones that are over 30 years old. The cost is $3.9 billion which is $1.4 billion off the original price. Painting the new planes is, of course,part of the deal.

Nope, not concerned about the colors. We're focused on the cost. Trump has been boasting that he brought down the cost to $3.9B. But the actual cost is $5.3B. Another example of his lying about something that can easily be disproved.

 

The redesign comes as part of the contract with Boeing to build a fleet of two new Air Force jets. Trump was a critic of the project and eventually reached a deal with Boeing to buy the jets for $3.9 billion -- $1.4 billion down from the original estimate
