Another mass shooting deserves a better answer.

Your 'premise' is incoherent. Obama (or Clinton or the Bushes or Nixon or Carter for that matter) did not incite people to hate their fellow Americans and try to divide the country with racist demagoguery.
Your boy trump is monumentally unfit for office by any metric, and you know it, but you are unwilling to put your country's interests ahead of your petty partisanship and now have to make up lame excuses and irrelevant distractions for a complete ******* like trump. Sisyphus sends his commiserations.

Yes. The big cities(except for recently El Paso and Sam Antonio), are run by Democrats.

    Austin: Democrats
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Adler_(politician)

    Dallas: Democrats
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Johnson_(Texas_politician)

    Houston: Democrats
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvester_Turner

San Antonio and El Paso got their first Republican(or independent in the case of San Antonio) mayors in years in 2017, before that election, Democrats. And don’t get me started on the city council make ups of those cities. Heavily democrat as well.

What you don’t know about Texas and Louisiana could fill an encyclopedia. We(Texas) are the second most diverse state in the US.

    Here is Louisiana:

    Baton Rouge: Democrat
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharon_Weston_Broome

    Shreveport: Democrat
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_Perkins

Bossier City: First ever, yes ever Republican, is at the helm, but if you knew about Shreveport/Bossier City, you’d know Shreveport runs that area.
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lo_Walker

    New Orleans: Democrat
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaToya_Cantrell

The largest cities in both states really are run by Democrats, and it’s that way across most of the South.

Edit: well I was late to the party, but education never hurt anyone.

They were counting on your 'gun free zone' signs to prevent this.

And to follow up on that, most of the crime/murders and the highest crime/murder rates by far are in those large cities that have a majority democratic voting population.

Honestly, it is that way across the entire nation. The murder rate in the United States is about 5.3 per 100,000. But here is a list of the American cities with the worst murder rates. Look how high those rates are. So to end up with an average for the U.S. of 5.3, there must be some very safe places to bring that average down. The big cities skew the murder rate. Most counties in America are very safe, safer than Australia in fact!

Interesting to note that of all the high murder-rate cities above, only two have republican mayors. All the rest are democrats. (yes, 2010-2015, but do you really think anything has changed?)

The misinformed often use statistics to say that the Southern states are "terrible" in a variety of categories, but what they don't realize is that the "terribleness" is concentrated in cities controlled by the democratic party. That is true of all manner of "terribleness." Take away the big city craziness, and the southern states quickly go from "terrible" to "wonderful."

And honestly, that is true across the entire United States.
    https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/apr/25/most-murders-occurred-in-5-percent-of-countys-says/

54% of the counties in the U.S. had zero murders. Another 16% had only 1 murder.

5% of the counties accounted for 66% of all murders in the U.S. - Murder is highly concentrated in the U.S.

Taking country Bubba's guns away from him aren't going to stop any murders, because country Bubba ain't the one doing the murders.

Obama had 8 years to do something....there were mass shootings when HE was president too.
Just trying to unmask and bring to the sunlight the MASSIVE HYPOCRISY of the Democrats. To hear them tell it, Obama was the messiah. He walked on water, haven't you heard? Many mass shootings were carried out during Obama's regime, but you heard nothing from Democrats----never his fault----from Ft. Hood to Orlando to Dallas to Charleston just to name 4. Believe it or not, Obama was FAR from perfect and made LOTS of mistakes and told LOTS of lie. Do you have any skin in this game since you're Australian?

Especially considering gun deaths don't even make the top 10 leading causes of death in the U.S.

It seems to me that the laws already on the books are working pretty well.

More people die each year from the flu than from gun violence.

    See: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/amp/282929

Should we pass new legislation to prevent flu deaths?

Gun deaths made up only 1% of ALL deaths in the U.S. in 2017

    See: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/18/us/gun-deaths.html

    See: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/amp/282929

I'm sure that percentage has NOT significantly, increased since then.

What legislation, short of a total ban on ALL guns could reduce gun deaths to LOWER than 1%?

    I'm VERY curious.

No one entity is on charge of the country.

Congress writes and passes laws, the supreme Court determines if thelose laws are just enough to be obeyed (constitutional) and the president enforces the law, as well as command the military.
    What should Trump do?

He cannot pass any legislation and he cannot force Congress to either.

Also, since gun deaths in the U.S. are less than 2% of all deaths, I don't think much more can be done. Sure, a total ban on all guns would probably reduce gun deaths to less than 1%, but it's not worth taking away the rights of the majority to appease the paranoid minority.

Let's ban 'em all then right? Medication related injuries are up there too, maybe ban those as well. Anything that has ever resulted in a human death should be banned in fact.

I have asked 2 times now, what do you think is driving the increase in shootings of this kind? If we don't know what the increase is about, then how can we address the actual problem.
I am not going to post it here, but the recipe for napalm is super easy to make. If someone wants a crowd attacked, they will do it. Better to find what is driving the insanity than to spend time chasing symptoms.

Ok at least this is a hypothesis. The only thing about it, is that 50 years ago it was insane and the most volatile time in American history as far as things like domestic terror. Seriously look up the number of bombings and stuff around the summer of 1968 on. People today would lose their **** with the same number and kind of attacks.

So it HAS been crazy in the past. Something seems different this time around. When the shooter leaves a manifesto, it seems they are all generally concerned with the future. I think the unibomber's manifesto is a strangely interesting read. He focuses on a loss of meaningful power within society. You have been removed from all the steps needed to sustain your own life and don't really make any meaningful decisions for yourself. Technology, he argued, would only increase this powerlessness within society.
What would you say is unique about today's insanity?

The school shooters killing children are new

The school shooters themseves are not elite liberals battling for the VietCong like Bill Ayers but rather confused misfits with little direction

And the randomness in that few if any of the killers know the other killers

I agree, treat guns and cars the same. Waiting periods and extensive background checks before being 'allowed' to buy a car. Re-take your driving test every 2 years. Limit the power and top speed of cars. Get permission before you drive it across state lines. Keep the keys locked in a safe.

    Or will it?

Breaking news which may be a shock to Australians who post on this forum...

329,384,515 Americans were not murdered today.

The U.S. apparently is a quite poor example of a "perpetual war zone." But we do appreciate your concern for us.

The El Paso shooter WANTED to be shot according to his manifesto.

Suicide by cop we used to call it

The Dayton shooter was shot by cops within 30 seconds and he still killed 9 people

And he went in there to die - his manifesto said as much

The Dayton shooting proved that the myth of a “good guy with a gun” is sheer wishful thinking when rapid fire weapons are used
