Is Israel thinking of going after Lebanon again

    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/israeli-air-strikes-target-palestinian-group-eastern-lebanon

    seems Lebanon has had enough

    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/israeli-air-strikes-target-palestinian-group-eastern-lebanon

So Israel is attacking Syria, Lebanon and Iraq. Are our papers reporting this? I missed it.

Israel is claiming it is bombing and droning all these countries to 'avoid' an Iranian attack on Israel. Clearly if Israel really wanted this she would be discussing peace not attacking three countries..so do you think Israel believes that if she is given freedom to bomb and kill freely in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon then she will have destroyed enough of Iran's allies to attack Iran. Who is the aggressor? Why is Israel seemingly the only country in the world who has the right to invade other countries air space at will and bomb and no one says anything? Comments.

As Israel is the only half way decent government in the region they should attack whatever they need to for their safety.

The Israelis are really doing Iran a big favor! There were many reports suggesting that Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Iran's allies in Iraq, were in a difficult position because of pressure from within not to do anything to drag them in a fight in case of a war between Iran and the US/Israel. With these actions, the Israelis have simply made it much easier for Iran to mobilize its friends on both fronts when and if it becomes necessary. Hezbollah in particular won't be feeling the same constraints anymore, as it can tell the Christian and other parties that it works with in Lebanese politics, that see: when we don't respond to Israeli aggression, that only emboldens them. We had a long period of quiet in Lebanon, thanks to the resistance in the 2006 war, but because of pressure for us to sit back as Israel bombed various targets in the region, now they are getting emboldened to slowly creep back into Lebanon!

Yes, someone has to say enough sometime. Possibly Israel is checking them out. It is quite amazing. Imagine how American's would feel if every few days a foreign country came in and killed a handful of them yet they find this fine for other people to put up with. I am beginning to think your belief is possibly the best. Just get on with it and be done with it. Only problem is one of them has to attack first, not you.

Friends of Iran, ye right. Iran pay them salaries to be its friends.
This is why Israel gdppc is 40k$ and Iran's in 5.5k$.
Continue to spend money buying your 'friends' while the Iranians suffer for decades without prosperring.
The stupid megalomaniac dreams of its rulers drain Iran of every cent it could have had.

I see that as a line. Another line is 'would you not attack if you had all these rockets coming at you. Rockets which have killed last I heard 20 people - no doubt more now as that was years ago, but nothing like the thousands Israel kills.

Now regarding this line. If you had them chucking rockets at you, you would destroy them. This was asked of a British General in a debate on the legality of the 2014 attack on Gaza. He said, the evidence does not suggest Hamas is any real danger to Israel, much more an inconvenience to be dealt with. He said Israel was starting new train lines to the areas most hit with rockets and was encouraging people to go and live there and she most certainly would not do that if she believed they were at risk. He saw rockets to Israel as something they would keep an eye on and try to have talks to solve the issues. He said that given that Gaza was not in any real sense a threat to Israel, he believed that Israel was just trying to give a perception of the Palestinians as dangerous so that she could attack them.

For years Hamas only sets of rockets when Israel has been killing Palestinians....and as far as cease fires Israel is the one who brakes them and then there is the little thing that they are the indigenous people held prisoner by Israel for over 50 years.

and you believe in the killing of not just the Palestinians but most of the people of the ME over this? Who is the aggressor?

Those figures are in nominal dollars (not real dollars) and don't mean anything, especially since Iran is a sanctioned country whose economy cannot be correctly measured in nominal US dollars (which technically are sanctioned to be given to Iranians!). In fact, even if we weren't under such severe sanctions, any economist worth his salt knows that nominal US dollar GDP per capita is meaningless to compare standards of living. Which is why the GDP PPP index (called real dollars) is the one used for this purpose. Even then, because of sanctions, the true picture regarding an economy which has to operate mostly off the book, cannot never been revealed by any statistical measure.

In any case, even if these stats mean anything, Iran's real dollar GDP per capita is 20,000. And that is the CIA's estimate.

Israel is sending drones into Beirut? Why in God's name would they do such a thing?

Oh please. Beirut was the Gem of the Med until Israel invaded. They wanted to overthrow the government .. install a Christian, Israel friendly military leader and take the Litani River. Killing Lebanese farmers armed with rakes and hoes isn't brave. Stealing topsoil is for chislers.

The main motivation behind what Israel is doing in Lebanon right now is to derail what Israel fears are possible openings for diplomatic negotiations between Iran and the US. For Israel, the aim of the maximum pressure campaign is not a new deal (which Trump wants), but to help its policy of eventually bringing about an implosion in Iran.

Be that as it may, I don't see negotiations with the US succeeding anyway, precisely because of Israel's influence. Regardless, one thing I would be adamant about: even if there are negotiations, there should be no concessions from Iran on any issue that affects its national security.

The place was far more peaceful before the Jew arrived and raged war all over the place. And if it aint Israel with their Jewish interest, it's the US raging war in the region. It's time that Muslim lives start to matter.

The Ottomans should have helped the Jews restablish their country in Palestine, hundreds of years ago.

    LOLOL!!!!

tell that to the Shia and Sunni terror thugs, who routinely kill each other in fantastic numbers every month.

what was it, 80 dead in Afghanistan last week?

all human life has been VERY cheap in the Middle East ever since Muhammed arrived.

As I alluded to earlier, whatever their intention, Israel is really doing a great job for Iran! Even Lebanon's Christian president, a Hezbollah ally who nonetheless is one of the figures which behind the scenes constraining Hezbollah's room to react to Israeli action due to the threats Israel has made against Lebanon in case of a war with Hezbollah, has had enough.

Lebanon's Aoun says Israeli drone strikes like 'declaration of war'

I couldn't tell it this was supposed to be ironic, or satirical. It neither, perhaps if Muslims could stop all their internal decimation others might take them more seriously. However, when you start from the position that anyone not muslim is an enemy to Islam, that's really not very neighborly....

Probably correct that Israel wants to keep the tension between Washington and Tehran ramped up for as long as possible. Netanyahu must have been aghast that Macron invited Zarif to the summit.

Another possible motivation is to soften up Hezbollah before a major attack into Syria to weaken Iranian air defenses.

Agree on the first part. Not the last sentence. The Israeli attacks have zero value militarily or otherwise on Hezbollah and would hardly 'soften' anything. Indeed, the opposite: there were reports that Hezbollah might 'demur' if asked by Iran to attack Israel in case of a war, because of pressures within Lebanon from its Christian coalition partners. Israel has basically removed some of these constraints, even if many of them weren't as great as some imagined. (If push came to shove, and there was any serious direct military engagement between Iran and Israel, Hezbollah would definitely launch its arsenal of rockets and missiles at Israel. But the threats by Israel against Lebanon, and the pressures on Hezbollah from within Lebanon, had risen the threshold for when and under what circumstances Hezbollah would react).

I know you like to return the favor, and respond to the Islamophobia being promoted by some, by giving them a taste of their medicine. But honestly that isn't ultimately helpful at all and, besides, it really doesn't represent the true facts regarding the problems in the region right now.

There are some (many) Jews who are a major part of the problem. There are also some (many) Jews who aren't at all in that category. No need to brush all of them with the same brush. While most Jews will naturally feel some sympathy for having a homeland of their own, and even though I can easily see why they would pick Palestine (Judea) over any alternative lands for this project, that is not right now what the real fight is about. The real fight right now is the coalition that emerged behind the neocon label between ultra Zionist Jews and their "Greater Israel" wet dreams, Christian evangelical Zionists (who can be even more extreme in their views), and the folks from the military industrial complex. These neocons and their PNAC agenda have taken over the Republican party and while their influence does stretch to the Democratic party as well, most American Jews are actually proportionally less inclined to support neoconservative agendas than the population at large. For instance, the percentage of Jews who opposed the Iraq invasion was greater than the overall percentage of Americans who did so. The percentage of Jews who supported the nuclear deal with Iran was similar to the percentage of Americans who did. Regardless that AIPAC and Israel pretend to speak for all Jews, that is not the case. They don't even speak for a majority, especially not a majority outside of Israel.
