Reagan's statue is almost at the Wall site. It is not Trumps fault the Germans are not very appreciative.

I have been to the wall, to the same place Reagan and Kennedy was and to Tiergarten. I recommend that zoo to any visitor.

Sorry to say, you confirm what I say, you invade, you own and the US completely unprepared never reacted.
We won the battle, Mission accomplished.
Hell no that's when the serious work starts, because you own the country.

    This is from Wikipedia:

His forces followed a "scorched earth" policy, destroying military targets as well as industry, infrastructure, and civilian property and disrupting the Confederacy's economy and transportation networks. Sherman's bold move of operating deep within enemy territory and without supply lines is considered to be one of the major achievements of the war and is also considered to be an early example of modern total war.
Going deep into the country without supply lines meant the men had to eat and live somewhere, and believe me these men were not of the highest caliber. At the time the European wars were more civilized and fought only between soldiers.

I was thinking of a few years back before Russia developed its hypersonic weapons. Putin blew up at the reporters in a meeting for not making the American people aware of what was going on so they could put a stop to the arms build up.

    You fail in your argument.
Germany was the aggressor and brutal and ruthless on top of it. It dished out as hard as it could and received from its opponents the same treatment.
    Iraq was under the embargo.
It did not dish out any more.
Poverty, a depleted military, none of its neighbors any more threatened, there was nothing

We should have left you people to the commies. Too bad we didn't. Thanks for the post however. This is a great example why I am against foreign aid and in particular military assistance.

    Its a 1 year projection.
Germany has done for the last 10 years in the 15 billion, each year and has reduced its debt ratio GDP, from around 100% to around 50%.
As I said let me know, when ever any US state, can produce a surplus for over 5 years.
I am very pleased to see CA to turn a corner and hopefully turn the corner. It is the most important economy in the US, the engine, so to speak.
Opposite to the Federal Government, liberal CA seams to use the good economy properly, run by a Democrat.

Well, lyin' David O Selznick would appreciate that you have mistaken his most grandiose lie as actual history. Wikipedia is only as good as its contributors, albeit they are usually excellent. Not in this case, apparently.

But let me put it another way that's perhaps one more exciting to you.

    Take 1:
    Take 2:
Sherman's only goal was to conclude the war by destroying Confederate infrastructure in the commercial hub of Atlanta. He did this through total annihilation, being the only warfare he knew, reducing banks to marble dust, RR stations, tracks and travel depots to twisted, grotesque monsters that seemed to rising from hell. Warehouses and other storage facilities became piles of burning sticks and smoldering, hellacious rubble. He warred nonstop, screaming in total abandon and great relish at the thought of razing the entire city and the next one over too, and then the one after that, and burn it all to the ground laughing, but his troops held him back, being aghast at the foam issuing from his mouth in his lust for savagery. Indeed, they bound him in restraints, as the Lord himself would have directed them to do. Praise be. But it was too late. What was done was done, and that truth of it would have to wait for David O Selznick to tell it, heavily edited though it would be for sensitive minds to endure.

CA would have a lot better economy except for the Democrats blowing the money on useless things, such as funding the illegal aliens who stream into the state.

It looked to me like your prime aim was to defend Germany and lash out at America. Germany was not the aggressor in Germany, it was the defender. German troops were highly trained to win war. We Americans had a huge pot of people to use for combat. Far more Americans than the Germans had.

Iraq was stomped almost into the stone age by Bill Clinton. Clinton signed a law saying we were to overthrow Saddam Hussein and some of the moles he left in our intelligence service lied to Bush. Bush believed what Tenet told him. Franks had a stunning and brilliant plan to remove Saddam Hussein and as an American i am proud of General Franks for he also worked hard to not get our troops killed. We were able to scare the scabs calling themselves the Iraqi Army and root out Saddam. I am proud we did that war.

The people in East and West Germany have been raised with different standards, and have had different influences. It's a perfect example as to why no one should impose their own standards on others as being superior, because what you might consider superior might not be what others consider superior.

Of course everyone can gain by contact with others, otherwise societies would never develop, but it has to be at their own speed and way.

Your arguments are very weak. California run by Democrats is turning out a huge surplus. Fantastic, we agree. California is on top, the leading economy of the US, in your eyes despite the Democrats. But than show me a republican State which comes close to it.
Not even Texas with all its oil and gas.
Again, come back if any of the US states is able to produce a 5 years surplus.
Just the state, no communities, no counties and no social system they might have.
    Just to keep it easy.

I was engaged to a young woman who grew up in East Germany under both the Nazis and the Communists. I spoke to not only her but both of her parents on life under the Nazis and Communists. They were frankly very sick of any war or any ruler. But the differences as you speak were amazing. They were not really very used to freedom at the time but it was growing on them. This is the two of us by her parents business 20190324_152716.jpg in Berlin in 1963. She was hot in my opinion.

Re Iraq Saddam violated the cease fire almost daily from the beginning. the only serious question needing to be asked is why he wasn't finished off the very first time he violated it, an was allowed to hold on for years. He should have been long gone before Bush II ever even ran for office.

Those ignorant of history need to note that Saddam was working on nukes as well as other types of WMD's, and after the Israelis had to destroy his nuclear reactors themselves in 1981 while the rest of the world sat around fingering themselves over Iran and how best to suck up to those scum and pander to the Saudis at the same time, and there was no reason to assume he stopped trying to after that. In fact he kept claiming he had them, so it was the safest thing to do to believe him and wipe his ass out.

A lot of it was still around in the late 1950's and early 1960's, when my father was sent over for a tour. We got shipped home when the Berlin crisis flared up.

Clinton himself gets a ripe share of blame. I mean very ripe. First he set up no fly zones. He also blew the kingdom come out of parts of Iraq. He starved Iraqis and kept them from medical supplies all the time telling us how evil Saddam was. YES, I knew Democrats minds were never going to recall this. It must be amnesia I suppose.

    Very good post.
The problem was, East Germany was bankrupt. When the Iron Curtain fell, it faced the onslaught of the West German economy.
It tried with its own elected government and wanted to establish it owns German state, but with what.
West Germany inhaled East Germany, sucked it clean, by its enormous economic power.
The population in East Germany has now reached 1905 level, despite gigantic investment by the Feds and industry into the East.
This is a generation project, which will take more than one

Actually it was the liberals that opposed the spread of Communism; the right wingers were all hiding under their beds whining about 'neutrality' and trying to pretend isolationism was grand, even though history has proved them ridiculously stupid over and over and over again. Inflation went up, but very modestly and nothing that couldn't be handled. LBJ found himself faced with a military 'good old boy' system and eastern establishment that constantly lied about the progress in Viet Nam so badly that the commies could actually claim the Tet Offensive was a loss instead of what it was, the last gasp of the Viet Cong in the South, i.e. Johnson's policies. After finding out what was going on within our own bureaucracy, and that he couldn't trust anything the CoC's and CIA said, the natural reaction was to 'micro-manage' and slow things down.

That's what the right and the left are told to parrot, yes; he was unpopular with both, one for merely not being an eastern establishment elitist, the other for being a more effective bulwark against communist insurgencies. The military hated it when they got spanked, so hence the hate the military PR hacks spread around.

In any case, all the legislation he got passed re Civil Rights, Voting Rights. etc. is the main reason he is hated by the Right, since we all know they don't mind government spending, they just think it should all go into their own pockets, not benefit the peasants. Those laws also had Sunset clauses, and much of what he gets blamed for in the propaganda was actually made permanent under Nixon.

Few young people are told the truth, that much of the civil rights legislation could only get passed because was aimed at only a few southern states; states like New York and California got to keep their literacy tests and the like. Harlem, for instance, had black voter turnouts as bad as Mississippi's. Nixon also made himself unpopular for expanding the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts to all the states, expanding bussing to northern states as well, and also handing the radicals in the Black Caucus everything they wanted, which was essentially control of their own graft, of their own schools, etc.

Bush didn't invade Iraq in the First Gulf War because it would have been illegal. He didn't have permission to enter Iraq and kill Saddam. Clinton was the first one to go against the UN and break international law by ignoring Russia's veto and entering a civil war in Serbia under a pretense of genocide when there was no genocide.

Clinton then proceeded to bomb Belgrade for 78 days and killed thousands - and CNN presented all the illegality and barbarity nicely to the American people. Clinton had conveniently passed legislation that allowed the media's to be bought by 6 corporations, this way they could work in tandem with the government, and Washington would be able to brainwash and deceive the American people all they want.

It was our break up of Yugoslavia and then Serbia that made Putin realize we had become an outlaw nation, so he began rebuilding his military.

You're ****ing wrong. Many thousands, probably millions, more of them are flat out dead than would have died under Saddam so I definitely don't think dead people are better off, Saddam was a brutal tyrant by our standards, no question, but he confined his atrocities MAINLY (certainly not entirely, but mainly) to political opponents and certain ethnicities/religions such as Kurds and Shia, The successors that we turned loose on the Iraqis made the entire country a prison and then killed EVERYONE but a privileged few, much like Pol Pot did to the Cambodians. Worse (from our viewpoint), Saddam was Ba'ath and the Ba'ath were SECULAR, Arab nationalists, yes, but SECULAR Arab nationalists, NOT lslamofascists and NOT international terrorists like ISIS was and remains, possibly even more of a threat to us now than they've ever been.

Saddam was a dictator but for most of his reign he was OUR dictator and when he grew problematic he could and should have been eased out, as I think was the plan under Bush Sr and later. Instead Bush the Younger decided to go Daddy one better and create West Texas on the Euphrates, the 51st State. After all Iraq is only the Oldest Country There Is, surely those backward sand ******s all really have little Americans inside, anxious to get out and become Good American Conservatives; and so today Iraq remains the most festering sore of violence and terror in the world, which has spread its cancer to Syria,, all the rest of the ME and the entire rest of the planet, creating a terror crisis everywhere and a global refugee crisis unprecedented in the history of the world..

Thank you, Republicans. Yep, you hanged Saddam
