Registration is required. Can you name one benefit to society if insurance was required?

Insurance would absolutely cover this and criminals could absolutely be charged for not registering their weapons once apprehended.

Registration is not required, you may be correct on the insurance end though so I will drop it.
I still believe registration would be beneficial

    How does insurance cover murder?

If it does, why don't we just all have murder insurance?

And no, a criminal in possession of an illegally possessed firearm could not be charged with not registering the firearm. It would be self-incrimination.

How is it you do not know none of this is true?
No insurance company will write a policy that covers criminal acts, and the USSC has ruled criminals cannot be prosecuted for not registering a firearm.

You cannot demonstrate the necessity for, or the efficacy of, universal registration.

That’s an interesting ruling — didn’t know that.
    Thank you

Insurance does not ever cover an intentional act, or crime.

the 5Th amendment precludes charges being filed for failure to register. Haynes v United States.

Registration would allow weapons to be tracked, if a straw purchase or negligence was found the original owner could be convicted for failing to report a sale. We could also identify traffickers.

What is the purpose of an initial background check on an original purchase if reselling has no background check?

Only in regards to self incrimination due to not being allowed to own a firearm to begin with.

Because I am not all knowing? That’s why I enjoy PF.com (usually) because I can expand my knowledge base even if I have to wade through buckets of **** at times.

You are incorrect on your first point though, https://elibrary.law.psu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1179&context=fac_works

Does it matter when violent criminals are not prosecuted for attempting to illegally acquire/possess? How many mass shooters shouldn't have been able to legally buy a firearm?

67% of violent crime in this country is committed by 1% of a re-offending population of criminals that keep being put back on the street.

    That's the problem.

I just did, if you disagree that is certainly your prerogative but your opinion will likely never change another's opinion.

Now come the big question: Will you allow your newfound knowledge to modify your positions?
Nothing here supports the idea that insurance will cover intentional criminals acts by the policyholder.
    Disagree? Quote the text.

No. You gave your OPINION,. not a demonstration.
Your OPINION will never change another's opinion unless you can substantiate it -- which you cannot, as you cannot DEMONSTRATE the necessity for and efficacy of the restrictions you seek.

The issue of our prison system not reforming individuals is a major one.
People that convict violent crimes should result in much harsher penalties, I am not 100% sure but I do not think many of the school shootings were by repeat offenders though.

Funny, then, how you continue to believe registration is necessary and effective, when you cannot demonstrate either or both,

The Sutherland Springs and Stoneman Douglas shooters were definitely repeat offenders. So was the guy in Illinois who had a FOID despite being a felon. Pulse shooter as well, just off the top of my head.

Most mass shooters have a history of violence that is not reported and/or ignored.

Even worse, in places like CA and NY, they're putting violent people back on the streets as a matter of policy.

The government failing to enforce the law is not a valid justification for infringing on people's rights.

Here, registration is required on many guns and once registered, they can not be sold or transferred. That means dems can claim they are not trying to take guns while in reality, they are just waiting until I die.

Can you name a benefit to requiring registration?

Do you know how these people got the firearms? I have no Idea but can look them up if you do not.

As for the infringement aspect, do you believe a registration would infringe on our rights? How?
I agree insurance would as it would cost money as long as you owned the weapon.

My goal is not to ban guns but rather protect innocents (especially children) of possible without major negative consequences.

Elimination of straw purchases and to insure background checks on secondary sales.
It would also allow us to track people that purchase for the purpose of trafficking.

Right. A person can not be charged with failing to register a firearm, so registration would mostly be pointless imo.

The is no demonstrable necessity for, or efficacy of, universal registration; as such it limits the rights of the law abiding to no demonstrable benefit.
    Thus, it is an infringement.
